• Chapter 1: Black Legion
Slowly darkness faded away as young James opened his honey eyes, he tried to twist and pain shot through his back. Something was…attached to it. James tried to speak, but no words came out, he had cottonmouth. What was going on. He feebly lifted his arms and rubbed his eyes. Slowly they adjusted. He was in a lab. There where cutlery in a tray beside him, gadgets where scattered around, he was on a metal bed. Was he some guinea pig? He lifted one of the steel utensils and looked at himself in the reflection he looked the same for the most part. his eyes were brimmed with grey and sticky gunk. He looked down and examined his body, someone had been operating on him apparently, he was dressed in bandages an his pale skin was tinted with red. A man came in wearing a black lab coat. followed by two other assistants.
“Doctor, the male is awake.” said one of the assistants from behind a lab mask.
The head man, looked over at James, he cringed. The man’s face was burnt and scarred. “Ah, that he is.” the doctor said with a toothy grin. “Good morning James, I suppose you slept well? You’ve had a nice long sleep, I’m Dr. Burn. Head of the Black Legion. You are the first of my creations. You feel special correct? You will be trained to kill, or killed. You‘ve been altered a bit. You can‘t talk back to me, so don‘t try.”
James glared at the man. What had he done to him? He ached all over, couldn’t speak, or barely move leather straps harnessed him. James muscles tensed as he picked up a steel knife from the tray, hiding it in his fist. Dr. Burn approached him, pulling another knife off of the tray beside James. James struggled to get out of the way of the blade but there was no point. Dr. Burn touched James skin with he bare metal, James cringed from its cold touch. He tore the bandage from around him. James tried to scream, nothing came out. James readied himself to stab Dr. Burn with the hidden blade before he could cut his flesh. “Hold still boy!” hollered Burn. “You’re going to make me cut you more than I mean to!” James jerked away from the knife, it slid across his abdomen. James dropped the blade he’d hidden to the floor, and covered his wound. “Planning to stab me?” questioned Burn rhetorically. “Nathaniel, fetch him some water!” one of the assistants left and came back handing him a glass. “You wanted to kill me, when I made you a superhero? A war machine? That won’t do.” Burn said monotonously. Burn smacked James. “Stand up.” burn commanded, removing James’ restraints. Warily James stood up., still covering his lesion. Burn grabbed James behind his neck and held a metal utensil to his throught. “You’ll do as I say or die.” Burn pulled cuffs from his coat pocket and confined James. “Put him in the jail until I request for him.” demanded Burn to Nathaniel.
