In winter, sweet the face thus framed
In barren branches which proclaimed
Her supple youth, the evidence
Of Springs eternal presence here
Beneath the frost, within the seed
That waits upon the chilly mulch
To sprout! to bloom! upon the mound
When March winds thaw the barren ground.
