I just want to start off by saying - sorry if I seem a bit snappy right now. Just feeling a bit down right now.
I thought I would have several Halloween get-togethers to join this year after hearing mentions of possible Halloween parties... but I never got any invites and the other party is apparently not happening I guess. *shrugs* So... in the end, I have no Halloween parties I'm attending this year... and I have to work tomorrow evening as closing concessionist. Yay.

Originally the plan was that I would catch up on my shows during my free time off... but once this moment of feeling down settled in, I just don't have the heart in it to do any show watching right now.
So... I'm just going to... I don't know. Something. Something will happen.

After my library shift today, I went and saw The Judge. It was quite enjoyable and I'm glad I finally got around to seeing it in theaters before it left. Absolutely loved Robert Downey Jr. in it. It helps that I've got a bit of a celebrity crush on him, lol.

I thought I would be able to read both of the books that the Vaginal Fantasy girls have picked for November. Unfortunately, the alternate pick isn't available through our library system... and I haven't been able to find a free online version for me to read it through either. So... probably will have to hold out on that one and find means of reading it later. At least I'll be able to read the main pick though.

I decided to start reading "The Willow" by Stacey Kennedy. So far I'm enjoying it... though I'm only a couple chapters in, so it could easily go either way on whether I'll continue with the series or not.

Quote: The sun was just going down when I hesitantly poked my head out from under the blankets. Was it a dream? [...] “You better get up,” she said, slapping my leg. “What time is it?” She looked at her watch. “Quarter after two.” “In the morning?” “Yup, the Council likes to stick to the same routine as the vampires.” Wait... I'm confused. Where in the world are they for the sun to be going down at two in the morning?!
And why isn't Nexi acting surprised by that fact?

And what's up with all of the major muscled men? Yeah, I get you're in some other world now... but... still... there's bound to be some "average joe" people around there. They can't all have been transformed into romance novel specimens.
And the kilts? There's nothing wrong them in general. But why does every guy have to be wearing one in this world? Especially when there's not even anything Celtic about the world.

Quote: “I—I don’t know.” I grabbed my wrist, and searched both quickly. There was nothing. No steady beat. No thumping on my fingers. I looked to Kyden frantically. “Where’s my pulse?” “When Zia released the block on your powers you became immortal.” [...] “Humans have heartbeats. Immortals don’t.” [...] “I’m still breathing?” He nodded in full agreement. “You are.” “Why?” “We still draw life from air,” he explained. “The difference is we live off the earth’s energy not a heart.”“Do I still have blood?” I asked, examining my arms for veins. “Yes, everything in you remains. It is just the need for a beating heart is no longer necessary.” I like that explanation of how certain immortals exist in the world without a beating heart. Definitely a nice way of interpreting the meaning of life.

One thing I don't like this story so far is that we've been dropped instantly into the plot without any introductions to who our main character is or what her life was like before the car accident and her decision to commit suicide under the willow as a result. I don't even know what she looks like, aside from one or two traits she commented on having shared with her birth father and mother... and her height. There's nothing that makes me connect with her emotionally to sympathize with her as she becomes more familiar with this new world. And although she acts all surprised by things at first, she's going along with this whole new world she's been brought into way too fast.
There's definitely potential in the novel... but there's just a lot that's missing. Or overdone to being a bit annoying.

Really? You're just now realizing you can see so clearly in the nighttime? After walking down a steep rocky Scottish cliffside to the beach?
Ugh! And to think this author is a bestseller...

Honesty, the quality of writing with this book is like someone's fanfiction. I'm talking about the typical image of what fanfiction is like - totally hot guys that the "Mary Sue" girl falls head over heels for while she becomes master over all of the problems she encounters.
Quite disappointing. I don't even know if I want to continue with the remainder of the series after I'm done with this book. Or if I should even bother reading the other series of hers that I had put down.
