Quietly she followed behind Volusia, a bare smile on ehr face. She was fatigued certainly, and still a bit angry with Nicolae for running off the way he did. Then again, she had come to know better than to expect anything at all from Nicolae. Coming to the parlor where the bar was situated, she happened to notice a man's form tucked away into the corner by a window. "Good afternoon, oncle Julien," she said politely, letting the french accent flourish in her voice as she carefully pronounced the last two words. He looked up from the book and smiled at the both of them, quiet as always he was, then returned to his novel.

smiling briefly at julien, volusia danced to the bar. running her index finger along the long rows of dusty bottles, she took a mental inventory of thier stock. "someone's replaced the bottled we drained recently. and worked on them a little, aswell. i thought we were the only ones to drink in this house." volusia blinked at herself. "silly me. so, what can i do you for?" she motioned at the vast collection of bottles. after a moment of thought, she selected a vintage tequila. she placed it gently on the bar, and looked to antha. with a sardonic smile she asked, "well?"

"I'm good with just a screwdriver," Antha replied as she plopped down into a large armchair arranged into a rectangle with several other chairs. "And if I'm correct, Uncle Michael keeps some orange juice in that little refrigerator on the floor," she motioned vaguely towards the bottom of the bar table where it was, though she couldn't see it herself through the wood.

"Aww, but aren't we feeling boring tonight!" Volusia taunted. She grinned and found a tumbler. After filling the glass about a third of the way with good, crystal clear vodka, she knelt and looked for the refridgerator. "Tada!" she said in triupmh, standing with the carton of orange juice high above her head. Antha's tumbler was filled the rest of the way with juice, and promptly handed over. "Why not yellow juice?" she asked with mock puzzlement.
She shuffled back to the bar and got another tumbler. Volusia opened the refridgerator and selected three perfectly square icecubes. Dropping them in her glass, she smiled happily. She wrapped her deilcate fingers lovingly around the short neck of the tequila bottle. "Ah, Jose, it's been a while, hasn't it?" Volusia said to the bottle, with an amused smile. She carefully pulled the stopper from the bottle. The amber liquid ran thickly over the icecubes, giving them a warped look. The bottle was placed on the bar and Volusia got a lime from the fridge. She neatly quartered it, slit the middle and put it on the edge of the tumbler. She went to sit by Antha, not even bothering to replace the stopper in the bottle or put the lime away. They'd be needed soon.

Antha smiled vaguely as she accepted her drink, listening to the faint c***k of her long nails against the glass. Quietly she observed them, the flawless plum colored nail polish that her aunt Mary Jane had done the previous day glinting under the artificial light. When Volusia sat down, she snapped quickly back into reality however, gazing into the opaque liquid. "Cheers," she said softly as she raised the tumbler to her lips and drained out a good portion of the screwdriver at once.

"Cheers," she said. Volusia folded her legs carefully and admired the colors around her. The bright green of the lime complimented the tequila. The dark red armchairs complemented the cold stone floor. Antha complemented her surroundings in general. For once in her life, Volusia realized what a toll time took on it's victims. Antha was beautiful still, but aged. there were already wrinkles at the corners of her eyes and around her mouth. Feeling suddenly the weight of the evening, Volusia sighed, and deflated slightly. She raised her glass and murmered, "To the Dead." Bringing it to her small lips, she gulped the entire glass down. It clinked loudly as she brought it down to the coffee table.

Antha picked dimly up on the thoughts passing idly by from Volusia and thought of all the times people had mistaken her for a mere child. The difference in opinion almost made her laugh. "Think of him when you think of passing time, not me," she said with alittle grin as she gestured airily towards Julien. She visualized him in her head, a man who looked barely older than her brothers yet preceeded them in age by at least 10 years.

Volusia drew a cigarette from the package on the table and lit it. "Yes dear, but I was just noticing how odd time looked on you. I wasn't thinking of how old you looked, but how you looked," she said, after taking a long drag. "But it is very rude of you to listen in on my thoughts, especially when I've been drinking. I can't be held accountable for them," she smiled widely, "But as for Julien, he's not that much older, and I think he wears his time beautifuly."

"Of course he does," she said simply, glancing back at him. He paid them little to no attention, but he seemed to be putting forth a great deal of effort to conceal his thoughts from prying minds. "He looks as if he could be Nicolae's twin in place of Malakai even. But tell me ducky, do you even know his exact age?" Julien looked from his book at this, tranquil blue eyes focused coolly on her and an eyebrow raised into the light blonde mass that draped down over his forehead. If he had spoken, more than likely he would have asked if she even knew that. After all, it was a quite fiercely guarded secret.

Volusia laughed, her spirits returning. "But of course not, poppit!" she exclaimed. "But no doubt he could concieveably be my father." It was stated as a question. Volusia now raised an arched eyebrow over an amused smirk. She sipped vacantly at the icecubes at teh bottom of her glass before replacing it in it's exact spot, making sure to align the condensation rings. The look in her eye questioned Antha lightly. "Am I right?"

"Oh, quite so. Why, he could have fathered half of our generation of Mayfairs even." Her eyes turned to him now as if to add to the accusatory tone in her voice. "A grandfather even, though only to an infant I should think." She quieted again only to take another drink of her screwdriver. "Isn' that right, Oncle Julien?" By this point his eyes had returned to his book and he made a point of showing he hadn't heard anything she said.

"Oh, I doubt that," Volusia continued, mildly confused. "But I propose a toast," she said, pouring herself another tumbler full, "To age, and those who wear it well, or don't wear it at all." She promptly raised her glass and drank all of it's rich, smoky contents, and as if to end the conversation, she rose to leave.
