I don't like them. I'll read books online if I HAVE to, but I really hate it. There is nothing like having a real book under your hands, with that wonderful book smell. heart

eBooks don't have quite the same charm that a real, tangible book has, but I like them anyway. I have an MP3 player that can hold eBooks. I took full advantage of that, and discovered that I actually really like eBooks. You can have a whole bookshelf right at your fingertips, which especially comes in handy if you're traveling and you don't have the luggage space to take many books with you (as I would normally be inclined to do). Also, having eBooks to read also comes in handy when you want to read in bed, but your hubby wants you to turn the lamp off and go to sleep. stare I just turn on the MP3 player and read by the light of its screen while the hubby snores away. biggrin

Call me old fashion, but I prefer to read good old paper bound books. Sure ebooks have there own unique quality's such as space (Store thousands of books inside your ebook reader), font format (change the text to read better), energy efficient (sure it takes energy just to keep it working but its no different from turning on a light in the middle of the night to read, at least this saves you a whole lot of energy), lighting (convert the light to not wake your partner up or not hurt your eyes), and it's eco friendly (saves thousands of trees from being chopped). BUT have you seen the prices just to purchase any ebook, sure they sound reasonable since they cost that of one paperback book but in my opinion, since this is downloadable it should cost a little bit less. Thank science that there are sites that allow you to download ebooks for free, even though this sort of cheats on your favorite author and all. Paperbound books have there own unique quality's as well such as...smell (old paper when it accumulates over the years), space (just 600 (more or less) pages to bound one book), burnable paper (let's hope that none of you actually would do this to books, but have any of you seen that movie, The Day After Tommorow, then there is this scene they take shelter in a library and the only way to survive from the cold is to burn paper to keep themselves warm, my opinion, they should have started on the law and order section first then work themselves up to anything that involves the legislative system, other than that I would probably just barracked myself in a room full of books and welcome the cold), and last and not least (can't think of any more), it is man's most powerful and oldest tool of transporting knowledge from the past to present then to the future (though a book can hold for a couple of century but if there was ever a EMP then you can say good buy to all the books that are stored in your ereader). In conclusion, it is up to the reader one what kind of style of reading they suit themselves, I prefer hard cover paper bound books.

NO! scream

The whole point of reading fiction is to allow yourself to be transported to another world. We spend all of our days staring at screens all day (or most of the day) long; this is reality. So when I want to be transported OUT of reality, I simply cannot stare at a screen!

Besides which, there's just something about reading a book, a real tangible book, that is just magical in it's own way. The smell could have something to do with it. I have heard that smell has a very strong association with memory. But the magic is something more, more like...age. Like historical sites, like mountains and ancient monuments. The deeper the roots the more timeless it is. People are natural drawn to old things, and the older the more magical. How long do trees live? How long has reading letters on paper been around? Have you ever considered the irony of trying to transport yourself to a pre-technological age using a tech-age-only gadget? It just doesn't work the same.

I'm kind of against too many things going electronic anyway. I mean, if you made EVERYTHING electronic, sure it'd all be in one place, but, suppose something went wrong? Your account got shut down, or you forget your password, or (and this is with a recent experience) you get a trojan virus that is so bad you have to reformat your pc and lose absolutely everything that was not recently backed up! And with it, goes your money, down the drain. Plus, since it's not something tangible, I don't think insurance would cover it either, whereas with something real if something happens (fire, flood, etc.) you can insure it.

I love printed books. Even if they become obscure, i'm going to be the old lady with the cats, and all the old weird books. Reading on a computer gives me a headache.

I find e-books to just not be cost effective. I have taken a liking to audiobooks. I used to read all the time in the car, but once I started driving (obviously) it took away from my reading time. The problem with audiobooks is the same though, they're too expensive to get on your own. Personally, I borrow from the library. But as a preference, I will always love to have a book in my hands.

I just don't get the same satisfaction reading an eBook as I do with a real book.

I really cant stand reading a whole book on a computer screen, it kills my eyes and my head, but im thinking about investing in a reading tablet of some kind, Just so that i can have hundreds of books with me, in such a tiny space. *squee*

Audio books, im not such a great fan of, i mostly start thinking about something else, and then i have lost track of where i am. And often i fall asleep, when listening to audio books XD

But there is nothing that makes me happy and giddy inside than opening a paper book, knowing i have an adventure in front of me, that is my passion <3

Where's your gavel? Your jury?
I also love reading paper books!
It's just the tradition, I guess, that we've had for so long.
I mean, what's next, making the Bible into an eBook as well? Or all student's textbooks?
I just don't think it'd be the same. Plus I can just go to the book section at the flea market and buy four tangible books for the price of one eBook. Price makes a huge difference these days.
What's my offense this time?

I think ebooks might help with the cost of textbooks one day for college students. Someday students will just have to carry a NOOK or an iPad to all of their classes. But at the same time I love holding the actual book in my hands and seeing a bookshelf overflowing with books. So I'm kind of neutral on the matter.
