[Average Doe]

Her eyes snapped open. Beads of perspiration stood out on her oddly pale face. The white pillowcase was streaked with tears and snot. Volusia sat up and hugged at her knees, more tearrs falling. Mi Lyyon was sitting at the end of her bed and looking up at her sympatheticaly. "His skin felt like rubber, cold, wet and slimy."

She had dreamed of one of her friends. He had died and was taken to her house for an autopsy. His big blue eyes were wide and glazed with death, and his small lips were slightly parted, showing his uneven white teeth. She brushed his shaggy blonde hair from his face and gazed at him absently. Her fingers found themselves running gently across his cold neck, across his ear and forehead, down his nose and stroking his ashen cheeks. Placing a small kiss on his forehead, Volusia pulled a white sheet over him.
The next day his body was brought out on a tray by her brother. The body had somehow been put in a white plastic bag and tied off the night before. Volusia's brother cut the bag open and the body fell out, preserved like a biology specimen. After hearing her gasp, He only remeined her he had been dead for a day. Volusia's confusion was ignored. She left the house to take a walk, and when she returned, the body was wadded up in the bag and on the floor of her kitchen. She could see him through the plastic. Tears rolled down her face, as Volusia hurled herself to her knees and begged for forgiveness.

Early the next morning, Antha had awoken to the phone ringing. For a moment or two she tried to see if it would just quit. No luck. A couple of rings later, she pulled the pillow down tight over her head. Dull, but still there. "Uncle Michael!" she called out finally, tossing over onto her side as she heard her own voice reverberate through the house. Finally it stopped, no doubt answered by Michael or Julien's groggy voice. "Finally..." she said tiredly, burying the side of her face in the pillow. Through her half closed eyes she could just make out Malakai's form amid a heap of sheets on the floor, sleeping as peacefully as ever. Can he sleep through anything? she thought to herself in her hazy, tired mind. Oh, who cares! Again she shifted and threw the white comforter up over her head, trying in vain to block out some slight mental signs of distress reaching her through the walls.

She ran her fingers through her tangled hair, now damp with sweat. Volusia's hands were shaking. Her whole body was shaking. She closed her eyes tight, trying to forget the image of his face, shining through the bag. "Sonofabitch." she muttered to the stony silence of her room. With the back of her sleeve, she wiped away the tears that kept falling.

Yawning slightly as she stared through a veil of tangled golden-red hair, Antha rose so that she sat on her knees with the comforter falling from her head and shoulders. Where the hell is that coming from? she asked the air silently as her eyes turned to the door. Someone was in some kind of distress, that much was plain. But the question was did she have enough energy to go find them and calm them down? Hell no. She all but collapsed and fell over onto her back, her hair falling piece by piece down over the foot of the bed. "Malakai!" she started finally as she stared at his upside-down figure, trying to rouse him from his ironclad sleep by shaking his shoulder. "Big brother, go find Volusia. I can't do it."

Volusia rocked back and forth, hugging her knees. Though she was trying to banish his horrifing image with all her might, he was stained to her eyelids. Godamnit! she thought, her body shook with another sob. Why am I falling apart? What the hell is wrong? She moved her head about, seemingly in pain. Writhing didn't help either, she found, so she lay flat on her back and demanded to know why she was such a pain in the a**. Wisely, Mi Lyyon didn't answer.

Malakai Mayfair rose from the mess of sheets on the carpeted floor as a groggy mess, only half aware of who was staring at him from the foot of his bed. "Eh...?" He blinked his eyes furiously, trying in vain to clear his vision and every few seconds collapsed again and rose back onto his elbows swaying a bit from side to side. "Wha...? Volu...who?" Despite the fact that he didn't know who he was being instructed to go to, he crawled on hands and knees towards the door and, after spending several minutes trying to turn the doorknob, entered the hallway and crawled down almost to Volusia's room. It would have seemed he was actually beginning to wake up and think straight, until finally some 5 feet from the door he collapsed and lay curled up asleep on the floor snoring like it was a competition.

At the first snore, Volusia's eyes snapped up, startled. Then she racognised it. Rising from the bed and tieing a thin white silk robe around her, Volusia carefully opened the door. Being careful not to make it squeak, she looked down at Malakai. "Oh, but what's gotten you up dear?" she asked his limp form. "You can't very well sleep here; you'll ache later today." she added softly. Running a thin hand across his face to check that he was deep asleep, Volusia carefully pulled him back into his room.

As he was pulled along, it seemed every few moments he kicke dhis leg as if in some struggle. And when he did this as he was pulled through the doorway of his room, his foot landed squarely on the wall to make a loud bang that shook the entire room somewhat.
Apparently this integrated somehow with Antha's dream and she gave a little shriek at hearing it before withdrawing far down into the sheets and comforter to hide from some unknown predator.

Volusia struggled. He was heavy, and his squirming didn't help. Upon hearing the loud noise, she raised a finger to her lips just as Antha screamed. Volusia abruptly let Malakai stay where he was on the floor, and pulled a blanket over him. Volusia padded warily to the side of the bed. She looked away and made a slight moan at first sight of Antha. Her still, pale figure reminded her of her cadaverous friend. Volusia wiped the tear away before it came.
