You are not meant to have fireworks around animals... it actually causes then trauma... they can even die from heart attacks...

Yea. That's pretty much true. It's the flashing lights, sonic boom and the vibrations that set them off. Since dogs can't see color, they only see the lights flashing.
Bonnie, my old Doberman, was scared of the fireworks. She always tried to hide behind the washer and drier. That was years ago, however. I was... about 8 years old?
