((I hope you don't mind me jumping in. It's no fun to rp alone, and I've been meaning to bring M'ris out of storage. ^_^ ))
M'ris and his blue Forth had been gliding aimlessly for hours, riding the thermals up higher and higher until the island where Ierne Weyr was situated was but a tiny speck no bigger than a grain of rice. The wind buffeted them in every direction, but Forth was young and strong. M'ris grinned into fur-lined face mask as he saw his two green fire lizards, Brannet and Kardell, struggling to keep pace with the lithe blue dragon. Not wanting them to strain themselves, M'ris gave the small creatures a silent order to return to the Weyr. The small -pop- as they went between was lost in the wind.
Suddenly, Forth banked to the left, forcing M'ris to grap tightly to his saddle, one hand wound tightly in the safety straps. Before he could asked the dragon what he was doing, Forth spoke.
Look. There is another rider there.
In an instant, M'ris saw them. It was a bronze dragon, much larger than his Forth, but one he had never seen before. Will you ask them to land so we can talk? he asked Forth, his eyes darting down to search for a likely place to land. He spied a small island below them, not too far north, and showed it to Forth. Here, perhaps. Maybe they're transfers to the Weyr. I know we're supposed to be getting some.
I will ask. Forth shifted his thoughts to the bronze. Good afternoon, brother. I am Forth, and my rider is M'ris. We are of Ierne Weyr. He wants to know if you and your rider will land on that island there so that they may talk and be aquainted. May I know your name and Weyr as well?
Half listening to the conversation, M'ris smiled at Forth's phrasing. The dragon wasn't always this polite. He rolled his eyes and waited for the other dragon to reply.

As soon as he received confirmation, Forth banked sharply and dove towards the island, forcing M'ris to grasp desperately at the riding straps. Their descent was quick...too quick, in fact, for M'ris's liking. He would have preferred a leisurely spriral to observe the bronze and his rider, but Forth had other ideas. He strained to reach the island first, but being smaller and less powerful, he backwinged a good three seconds after the other pair. M'ris unstrapped himself and leaped unceremoniously to the ground, stumbling a bit at the impact. He took a few steps toward the other rider, doffed his helmet, and smiled broadly.
"Greetings, rider," he called, waving an arm in friendly gesture. "My apologies if I disrupted you flight, but I was curious to see if you were of Ierne. We've had few transfers of late, and any we encounter undoubtedly provide weeks of talk among the others."
And you accuse me of uncharacteristic eloquence. The blue nudged his rider before locking gazes with the much larger bronze. I wouldn't worry, if I were you. Even if mine were in a foul mood, he's not so stupid to pick a fight with a bronze rider, and he has little authority to trouble the two of you. Forth's tone was amused but still curious of this new dragon. He was aquainted with every dragon of the Weyr and knew the names of many of those from other Weyrs both North and South.

M'ris had to work very hard indeed to mask his surprise at hearing the coarse speech of the man in front of him. It had been a long time since he'd heard a dialect like it, as all the riders he had met at Ierne were generally well-spoken. It was nice, though, to hear someone speak without always watching his tongue. Perhaps he had been a sailor before he Impressed.
"Thanks for the compliment; he tries to look his best, vain beast. I'm M'ris and this is Forth," he replied, wondering if the other dragon had failed to repear Forth's introduction of them both. "No Weyr, eh? Strange thing, that. Never heard of a dragon pair outside a Weyr before. And your name, rider?"
He had slipped his language a bit to a more comfortable informality that he much preferred, but he wondered at the audacity of this rider. He had no previous Weyr, he had not checked in with either Weyrleader (Forth would have been informed by either Mith or Cadeth if he had), he spoke with very little apparent regard for his fellow rider, and he did not even bother to speak his name, though he had just reprimanded M'ris for that very same thing only moments ago. M'ris grinned a bit; he would like this man with his disregard for authority and rank. They could be good friends in time.
Yes, I think he will be good for you, M'ris. You are very alike. Forth nudged his rider good-naturedly. M'ris did not make friends as easily as he made enemies, so this was good progress.

K'tan laughed, nodding while stroking his dragon.
He made a point to look the other rider in his eyes when he replied confidently "I go by the name K'tan Namathorn. This here, though big he may be, as sof as a wee cub he is to most thin smaller than his legs, goes by the name o Midiath. It be a pleasure to make yer acquaintance laddie, and o course as it is to meet a fine beast such as yerself Forth. Aye the two of us have no weyr, when Midiath's egg failed te hatch at the Impression, they got rid of him by sellin his egg as fertilizer. I was the one tha bought him. A week later, as I was about to crack him, he sent me a picture of an island. We been searchin fer it ever since. Decided it be easier if we had a wider range of intel to go off, we was on our way to check out the island off in the distance when the two o you intercepted us." K'tan flashed a smile as he added "Nice work on tha, we heard blue's had good eyes."
A thought hit K'tan and he persauded Midiath to chat with his new friend. He just grumbled, he knew Midiath was happy to finally talk with another dragon. So what is Weyr life like? Much excitement and much trouble for riders such as ours. I know yours was trying to hide his smile, he did well. Most would have hit mine for the way he talks. Vulgar, yes. But his luck is what makes my life full of... adventure. Midiath added a bit of a low growl as he sent the last word to the other dragon. K'tan laughed, knowing that for what it was. Sarcasm.
