If there's a remake of FF7, but they change it to be SERIOUS like AC, will you be pleased?
  Of course.
  I'm not sure.
  NO.

lotta people need to replay ff7...
but heck yeah I want a remake, im sure like most companies that make remakes even square would screw it up horribly, but I want one nonethless.

Im not understanding how dirge of cerebus and advent children was any more serious/dark/shadowy or the likes..they were less so imho...
In crisis, I think it added to the story, dirge was good offshoot, but nothing to really place too much care into...
advent children was the only one that was....pointless.
didnt feel like a serious ff7, didnt feel serious at all either.

I noticed a bunch of people would like a remake of ff8...that was the first final fantasy game I ever played, its what made me play from 1-10, so it kinda holds a special place in my heart....id be afraid of total screw up if they remade it (plus it has the most unique combat system of them all...perhaps the most interesting and well developed...quite the opposite of 10 which is simplistic, messy, and very very lacking...)
thank to ff8, I now only have ff10-2 through ff13-2 to play (not including the online ones in my goal to play them all!)

tl;dr: If they do anything except fix glitches, improve graphics, add voice acting, and fix translation errors I will be out for blood. Otherwise give me my damn remake already.

THIS. FFVII was my 1st JRPG, & I have been smitten with it ever since. Nostalgia is a fickle creature; if they change too much, it'll do more harm than good.

Well, in the past, gaming companies can't seem to make a remake without messing up the original with adding some kind of thing to the game that makes it "not the original"
they change text or grammar errors
they add in a voice acting or just a grunt
they change parts of a dungeon or area that they decided "the original was too hard so we fixed this"
they change a name of weapon or spell. Even a SLIGHT change bothers veteran fans.

Here's a list of things in games that were changed/added

Zelda Link to the Past: Link does that haa haaaaa sound when swinging a sword. He screams when he falls in the pit and the Ice Dungeon was changed!

Super Mario World GBA: Mario says "mama mia" when he dies. He says "just what I needed" when grabbing a power up.

Super Mario Advance GBA: First area was changed dramatically and Birdo taunts you. I didn't play further into this because I was disappointed

Chrono Trigger DS:
Tonic was changed to POTION.
I think there are grammar errors that were fixed as well

Secret of Mana for iPHONE
Board Sword has a new name....I totalyl forgot what it is.
The enemies look different.
The text has been grammatically altered.

Secret of Mana bothers me the most because it is my all time favorite game.

As a veteran player who has the originals, the change in the game really bothers me because it isn't a complete port.
And it isn't difficult to just change the graphics and keep everything else the same.
Grammar errors in OLD games were fun, and it added to the fun of the game.
Plus, who cares if the grammar isn't perfect or what have you.

Anyways, the case still remains the same:
Updated graphics are fine:
Game play, and script changes aren't !

Yeahyeah, I haven't posted in this guild in a long time, but this idea has been floating around my head for quite a while, so I thought I'd share it with fellow FF7 fans.

Scroll down to the bottom for a cheap summary if you don't want to read all this crap.

For the longest time, I was anticipating the remake of the renowned game of FF7 for the PS1 -- one with crisp graphics, voices, and a better translation as compared to the older version. But lately, I've been thinking, and really thinking.

Square Enix doesn't have the same appeal to me nowadays as it did before. Ever since Advent Children, I've been greatly disappointed. Sure, Advent Children has amazing graphics, and there were a few chosen moments where I felt nostalgia, but come on. They totally raped the characterization of everyone, especially Cloud. Not to mention everyone's character design.

In the game, Cloud talked. Cloud talked a lot. I mean he was, of course, the usual stoic main character of an RPG, but at least he had a personality and character, even after he realized who he truly was and stopped acting like Zack. In FF7, he snowboarded, crossdressed (although unwillingly), played that God-forsaken Moogle game in Gold Saucer, and climbed up a never-ending staircase in the Shinra building with some comedic asides.

Now, with Advent Children Cloud, can you see him doing any of those things?

If they ever were to make a remake, they'd probably edit it to death. If they took out the crossdressing part, I'd be really upset. They'll downplay the characters, the game...they'd just plain destroy it if they go the same way they've been going with Dirge of Cerberus and Advent Children.

However, Crisis Core, in some aspects, gave me hope. The added characters, however, still daunt me. That probably means that if they remake the game, there will be hints of Cissnei, Lazard, Angeal, and possibly all the other added characters that I don't really give a flip about in Dirge of Cerberus. It's like Square Enix is finding badly written fanfictions of FF7 because they're too lazy to write their own plots.

I'm not sure, I may just be being a bit cynical, but a remake sounds daunting to me now, unless they actually keep to Cloud's original character -- and everyone else's -- and keep all the zany comedy. It's like they made FF7 so serious and full of DARKNESS that it makes me want to go cry in a corner and cut myself.

Cheap summary: Advent Children and other spin-offs have totally changed the image of the actual, original game.

Do you think this will reflect in the remake? If so, will you still be awaiting it? Do you prefer the classic outlook on the game or the new, serious one?

...yeah, don't ask, I felt like ranting.

I actually love all the new things that they added to the franchise, I think that if they remade it and added some of the canon information they gave us in other games we could really connect to the story a lot more!
I'm hoping that they will remake this wonderful game but until then i'm going to get pumped up about the new final fantasy because it's set in what seems to be a "modern" era

I'd like to see what the the remade summons would look like if animated like Advent Children. Knights of the Round would look so sweet xd But yeah, a simple conversion to hd just doesn't feed the old FFVII appetite. If only... crying
