Two Joss Whedon-related events, neither actually involving Joss, are slated for tonight and tomorrow at Golden Apple Comics. But we'll get to that. First, there's "Avengers" talk afoot.

It could have been an April Fool's Day prank ... Joss Whedon's name popping up as the possible director of Marvel's long-in-the-planning "Avengers" movie. But then it was on MTV, and Flickcast did a little digging, and Screen Rant, with many following IESB -- who did their best to make it sound real amidst other April Fool's Day hoaxes. Could this be? After some checking, insiders at Marvel Studios say no director has been signed yet but that Whedon was on the short-list and conversations took place. This could be promising, Whedonites.

If you want to harass some people close to him about it, there's ample opportunity this weekend. "Dr. Horrible" (and "Dollhouse") actress Felicia Day will be signing copies of her new comic book "The Guild," created from her awesome web series, tonight at Golden Apple Comics (7018 Melrose Ave in Los Angeles).

And if you want to try and pry more information from an actual blood relative, brother and writer Zack Whedon will be on hand Saturday to meet and greet over his comic book series Terminator. The shop is calling it a Dark Horse weekend, but we like Whedon weekend. Day will be there tonight starting at 6 p.m., and Zack will be in tomorrow at 1 p.m.

Also on hand tonight will be Melissa Auf der Mauer, or MAdM, bassist for Hole and Smashing Pumpkins, signing copies of her new OOOM Comic.

It was announced on April 1st that Joss Whedon was in the running to direct the Avengers movie that's coming out soon. The LA Times has confirmed that it's real and it's not an April Fool's joke. What do you guys think of this?

I personally hope Joss gets the job because he needs something high profile to boost his reputation. Plus, I'd love to see how he would put his own spin on it.
