THANK YOU 4laugh heart heart That really means a lot hearing that from you.

The way I see it, believing in God (or gods) vs. not believing in gods is the same a preferring to read books vs. preferring to watch movies. Reading books as opposed to watching movies doesn't make one "smarter" than someone who likes to watch movies better. Just like watching movies instead of reading doesn't make one "dumber" than one who reads. The only difference between the tow would be how they choose to spend their free time.

Same thing with religion or a lack of religion. Its not what the belief is, that makes "crazy" or "fanatical" or "ignorant", etc. Its the strength of that belief and whether or not it limits their ability to see things objectively.

Think one I only got from one person several years ago, here on Gaia, actually. I couldn't defend it at the time, but now that I know better, it really irks me.

The Immaculate Conception is celebrated today (December 8 I think it was) but he (Jesus) was supposed to have been born on the 25? - There was more to it, but I no longer remember it nor where to find it. The Immaculate Conception is not the conception of Our Lord, also known as the Annunciation which is celebrated in March. It is the Immaculate conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary in her mother's womb.

I'm really enjoying the intelligent conversation in this guild.

Misconceptions about UUs that drive me nuts:
1. That we can believe anything we want.
2. That we don't believe anything at all.
3. That we are a "new" religion.

That first one makes me want to beat my head against a wall. lol

"Roman recons/revivalists do animal sacrifice."
Not all of us do and animal sacrifice is only for specific things with specific animals at specific times in a specific way. Most people don't know what to sacrifice or how to sacrifice properly (or have the space, legality, or tools to do so)so we just don't do it.
"Roman recons/revivalists use any excuse to have sex or drink"
Not true. Specific holidays it is a way to celebrate, sure but it's not required and it's not for everything..or many things.

And the one I can't stand the MOST.
"Your religion is a nature religion."
