Weyr Rim

D'ran's heart seemed to skip a beat as he felt Kes's lips brush his momentarily. He looked into her eyes as she spoke, unwilling and unable to tear his gaze from the woman who had confessed to feeling safe with him. He smiled briefly and he removed one arm from around her to wipe away the salty crust that had formed on his cheek.

"I'm glad," he murmured as he stroked a lock of Kes's hair back behind her ear, "that I let you feel safe. And I'm glad that perhaps we can be friends, too."

Friends go to watch their eggs together, Voliath quipped deftly, letting his words reach D'ran as well as Wreth and Kes. Can we see them now, D'ran? Wreth has had them all to herself 'til now. Voliath crooned plaintively at his rider.

D'ran laughed and glanced at his dragon, turning so that he and Kes were side by side but leaving one arm to rest lightly around her waist. "What do you say?" he asked Kes with a grin. "Shall we go see the eggs now?"

Kes smiled up at the bronzerider that held her as he seemed to relax into her. "Friends definitely, and maybe more than that if you wouldn't mind." She smiled brighter as Voliath's words filled her mind. "Yes they do Voliath."

Wreth crooned warmly at the suggestion. You want to see our eggs now Voliath? I would like to show them to you.

Kes grinned brighter at how excited Wreth sounded. "That's the best idea I've heard all day. Let's go see those eggs together."

D'ran laughed as Voliath eagerly hopped the short distance to him. The bronze crouched and lifted one forearm as a step, impatient to see the eggs he had sired.

"Looks like Voliath just can't wait," he said. "I'll see you there."

He squeezed Kes tightly for a moment before vaulting to his dragon's back. Almost before D'ran had seated himself, Voliath lifted them both into the air. D'ran turned to watch for Kes and Wreth, a huge smile plastered on his face. In moments, the Rim was just a small point, and dragon and rider were off to the Hatching Sands.
