Shinjuku is known as a major commercial and administrative center, housing the busiest train station in the world (Shinjuku Station), & the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, the administration center for the government of Tokyo.

Surrounding Shinjuku Station are department stores, specialist electronic & camera shops, cinemas, restaurants & bars. Many international hotels are located here.

In a small apartment of a fair big skyscraper, Takeshi Inoue heard a ding in the kitchen, so he took off his FMD (Face-mounted display) helmet and walked out of his dark bedroom. It was late in the afternoon, but no one has come home.

This didn't bother him as he took out his tray of leftover lasagna from last night's dinner and brought it into his bedroom to eat.

Takeshi heard the home phone ringing, so he dropped his FMD and left the computer in his bedroom to the dark hallway where the closest phone was. It was the early evening and he didn't bother to put on the lights. When he picked it up, his father was on the other line.

"Takeshi? Hi, it's dad here... just letting you know I won't be home either tonight... have some things that must be done... sorry I can't give you any more cash for tonight's dinner so make do with whatever is left in the fridge... bye and see you tomorrow afternoon..."

Then the phone hung up, without Takeshi putting in a word, but he didn't mind it. This was common in the Inoue household. He hung the phone back on its handle and walked back into his room, turning only the lights in the hallway and his table lamp in his bedroom. He sat back on his seat and put the FMD back, returning to 'The World'.

Takeshi took off his FMD and turned off the computer for the night. Then he drew out some textbooks, a notepad and began some late night studying for tomorrow's class.

It was morning when he woke up from his bed. He only managed to get half of the chapter he read last night, and decided to continue the rest of it on the train ride to class. He got up, washed up and packed his stuff for the day, locking the apartment door behind him.

After 6 grueling hours of boring classes, Takeshi left the university and back home with a plastic bag of fast food for lunch and dinner. He had a lot of food with him because he decided to skip out on lunch to catch up on more studying, which also didn't go too well. But it didn't matter anymore. He was more interested in getting home for some rest and back on the game.

He opened the door and entered the kitchen to see a pile of dirty plates left on the table. He knew it had to be his father who probably came home for a bit to eat and wash up. Takeshi checked his father's bedroom to see it empty of any presence or sound. If he was still at home, he'd be either in bed or in the shower. With that done, he went back into the kitchen and ate most of the food he brought home.

Leaving the rest of the french fries outside for the birds to eat, he returned to his bedroom and put his FMD on.
