Ephyron Grasslands

Extending for miles along south East Oria are the Ephyrion Grasslands, a sea of tall grass dotted with farming communities taking advantage of the regions fertile soil. The soil here is so fertile, that within a year, roads end up swallowed up by grass, so instead large wooden poles or boulders mark the paths one needs to take.

The Grasslands are home to many grazing animals. Herds of deer, bison, and kyxe's (horned horses) roam freely. With such large herds, however, come predators, and it is not uncommon to come across wolves from the Forest of Skale, and mountain lions from the Ridgeback Mountains, searching low for food now that dragons have reawakened. The tall grasses making it easy for such predators to ambush their prey.

Kris had let the reins go slack catching it on her foot so it wouldn't fall between the horses and wagon as she lounged back in the modified wagon seat that made it easy for her to lean back and relax. She was lucky the pair of horses she had pulling the cart had adjusted to her riding style or this lounging wouldn't be feasible. Or maybe it wasn't luck, maybe it was the long hours she put into training the horses to continue riding.

The wagon full of odds and ins, Kris had collected and traded over the years, was heading towards Indar. She hadn't been to the main city in over a six months having spent the latter months traveling to and through the Elven territory and communities. Kris had liked it among the trees, though it was hard sometimes to move her wagon, it had been worth it. The elves had greeted her kindly - as she had been within their lands many times over the years and several times when her father had been alive - and had purchased much. Kris had no problem trading tales of adventure from the elves much to her enjoyment.

Indar was still several long hours away but Kris wouldn't be bored. She had stories to recall - that could entertain her for hours - and there were many towns along the way that she could make some trades at if she was lucky. Her eyes traveled up the sky above her, the sun, time. She wouldn't make it to Indar today, maybe one of the small villages had an inn she could stay at. She could always sleep within her wagon but a village would offer shelter among houses for the night.

The man trekked through the grasslands at a casual pace, letting his horse take it easy along the barely visible dirt that was the road in this part of the kingdom. Only the boulders and posts spaced along the path kept him from getting lost. He patted the faithful beast's neck, a parting gift from his village for his adventures ahead. He was the village's only mage that could do more than make a couple sparks or splash a little water, and they wished him all the possible success such a talent could bring. First of course he had to make a name for himself and see what other abilities he could learn. Then he could become one of the strongest mages of all time!

He looked up at the sky above him, thankfully clear. He was not sure how much farther the nearest village or town was and it was likely he'd sleep outdoors tonight. As long as the sky was clear, sleeping outdoors could be rather enjoyable. Provided he had plenty of his bug-off lotion. The only real danger was if forest wolves came roaming. The rumors had told him it was happening more and more often, and he did not want to lose his only horse. He patted the creature's neck again, earning a small whiny. In the distance he spotted a strange off-white cloud growing larger on the horizon.

Peering closer he realized it was a wagon. A grin spread on his face as he realized it was likely a merchant ahead of him. Hopefully they were friendly, he'd gone too long without conversation. At the least a merchant usually had the latest road information that he could gleam. He tapped his horse with his heels to get her to pick up her speed slightly. When he approached closer to the wagon he yelled out "Hello there!" so they weren't too surprised by appearance. Pulling up next to them, he gave them a friendly smile.

Kris had faded off into memory as the horses pulled herself and her wagon along with path towards Indar. She wasn't sure how long she was in thought, remembering all the wonderful tales she had and her own haunted past. Compared to the tale she had embedded to memory Kris thought her own past was rather dull. She liked the lusty overcoming warriors she had learned about in her travels.

She let out a bitter laugh over her own thoughts when she heard hooves at an unsteady beat of her own horses approaching from behind her. Kris wasn't even given time to sit up and look around when she hear a man's voice calling out to her in a friendly manner. Kris sat up taking in the man's appearance. Between the dark locks, bracers, and protective armor Kris had no problem seeing him in the heat of battle. He was sure to have some tales even for his young age. The older warriors had the greatest tales.

Kris smiled around the long tobacco pipe resting on her lips as she looked down at the man from her high spot upon her wagon. "Oh, hello there, Dearie." Her words were lazy as she leaned back into her modified seat. "Where are you coming from and heading to?"

Aragaine grinned widely when he discovered the traveler was indeed friendly. He'd been on the road alone far too long and the pleasure of conversation was something people certainly underrated. Though he missed his village with its close knit members, he had no plans to return anytime soon. Not until he had something worth bringing back at least. "Just a small village, I'd be surprised if you've heard of us. All we have to offer is some furs and occasional sheepskins. As for my destination..." He gave a loose shrug, his shoulders rising and falling in a casual shrug. "I'm not entirely sure. I guess I'll end up at Indar if I keep following this road. To be honest I'm just seeing where this road takes me." He gave the merchant a large grin, the excitement of everything not yet lost to him. "How about you friend?"

His eyes glanced over the barely visible road before them. All unfamiliar terrain to him. Hard to beat the excitement of that. And there was always the chance the rumors were true. "Have you heard to rumors that the wolves are venturing out of the forest more and more? Any idea if they're true?"

"Don't be so certain. I have traveled many years and lands - I might have in fact been to your home." She stated truthfully with an easy smile. There wasn't a time in her life when she wasn't on the road that she could remember and her many explorations was something she was quite proud of and she found it hard to hide such pride from her voice. "Please, tell me of your home. I would love to hear of it, if in fact, I have never been." Another story, another destination. She had a map in the back of the wagon that listed out the areas she's been. Another dot upon there would be wonderful.

At the man's shrug and unsure nature of destination, "A fine idea: just following the road ahead. It is much what I do."

With a small dismissing wave of her hand, Kris answered his question about herself without as much glee or rigor. "I am simply a merchant, Dearie. Travel and trade is were I started in life and it shall be my end as well."

She paused in thought then, "It appears, though, we are getting ahead of ourselves. I'm Kris Albic and you?" She extended her tattooed hand down to the man on horseback. With the steady pace of their horses they were going it was not dangerous for either to take their hands off the reins of their horses - plus, she still had the reins about her foot and well trained horses.

When he asked about the wolves, Kris couldn't help but smile. As much as she loved hearing a good tale actually telling one was another favorite of hers. "The wolves are certainly doing just that along with the mountain lions I might add. The dragon's awakening has certainly caused a shift in routine for a lot of creatures of Oria. The dwarfs moved locations, now smaller but still well built. They are busy rebuilding still after this time. The humans are much more watchful but they feel safe so far away so they do research on the dragons at a slow even pace. The elves," She recalled her recent adventures in the elven homeland and cities, "they are advancing in knowledge and land with little pause. They're advancement while well managed and protective of a lot of beasts within the forest has seemed to put the wolves on edge. The dogs have since found easier food here in the calm grasslands." With her slight nod of her head, Kris motioned to the tall grass surround the pair of travelers. "They can hide in the grass with little problems."
