exclaim IF YOU WENT TO THE MOUNTAIN exclaim

The mountains near Seaside Breeze are not as hot and oppressive as some of the other mountain ranges in Summer's Touch, but they're definitely sweltering. For a pony on the verge of heat stroke, this definitely isn't a good place to be. The higher up you climb, the thinner the air gets here. It's traveled well enough that the road is lined up the general mountain, and the whole thing can be walked in a few hours- less if you take a good trotting pace.

As you approach the mountain with your search and rescue team, you decide to approach this in chunks. Some of you are heading into the caves, and some of you are taking the outside of the peak.

Roll 1d8
1-4: You head into the nearest cave with your fellow explorers
5-8: You carry on the trail around the mountain.

As the groups were divided, Mango found herself with many ponies she did not know, heading up towards the mountain. She wanted to introduce herself to them, but still felt too awkward to speak up on her own. However, before she left the small town, she did lock up her cart and take a small bag with some fruit. Slinging it across her back, she trotted after the group.

These mountains weren't as hot as she had thought, but it was still hot enough to have her sweating slightly. She was a large pony and heat did not affect her too easily, though she wasn't used to this kind of heat. Plus, it was getting a little harder to breathe the higher they went. The road was long and winding, and took them quite a while to get some real good head way in their searching. Finally the group came to a crossroads, and stood around trying to decide what to do next.

Mango stood a little behind the group, listening in, trying to gauge how the split was going to go. She didn't want to leave any ponies alone, or have one group be much smaller than the other.

Babbling Brook had gone with a few other ponies to the mountains. She kept Ripple with her and moved into the nearest cave. She tried to stick close to the others that went with her, but she mostly focused on trekking ahead.

"I wonder what we'll find. Do you think we'll find anyone? Or do you think we'll end up getting lost? I've never gotten lost in cave before." She prattled on. "I travel a lot, like a lot. I don't have a permanent home, through no fault of any pony, it's just not my way, but even in all of my travels, I've never actually explored a cave. What tends to come from exploring caves? Does any pony know?" She asked, looking around her at any one else nearby, but she only saw Ripple and even that was in the dim and quickly fading light.

Oh well. Babble thought. You don't need to see to be able to talk!

Aqua had arrived at the foot of the mountain now the problem was determining which part of the mountain to start her search. Taking a few minutes to assess the mountain's environment she trotted up some ways up from the foot of the mountain.

Before taking a turn, she stared at the side of the mountain and spotted a trail. She looked from the front of the mountain and then the side of the mountain. It looked like the trail that went around the mountain looked well travelled. So she debated which direction was the lesser of two evils and the trail around the mountain was. She started trotting along the trail that went around the mountain. She thought to herself Well it is better than taking on the front side of the mountain. Alright, off we go!

If you went to the caves...

There is an old song by some famous pony composer called In the Hall of the Mountain Alicorn. He isn't one of the four, but this supposed Alicorn of the Mountains is fearsome. Not only that, but he apparently has sick taste in music. A fun and little known fact, the original composer of the piece meant it to be an ironic parody of music of the day. There's something about a party of trolls as Poneer Gynt, the main character, descends into the caverns. All in all, it's very jaunty for a song supposedly about mountains and goblins.

...Why are you thinking about this? Oh sweet four, you are horrendously lost. You look around the caves and realize, in the glinting obsidian crystals, you have absolutely no idea where you are. The heat in here is intense- perhaps you've been overwhelmed by it, which is why you went on this nonsensical and not at all fourth-wall-breaking tangent? But... if you got lost here, another pony could as well.

Roll 1d4.

1: The mountain madness is too much. Overwhelmed, you turn tail and flee the caves.
2-3: In the distance, you spot a turn deeper into the caves. You press on ahead, unafraid.
4: In a moment of clarity, you remember to bring a light of some sort and press on.

If you went up the mountain trail...

The forest is not the only place near Seaside Breeze with its own array of trees. The ones here have had their leaves go black with ash from the nearby volcanoes, whether it creeps in through the soil or simply coats the top leaves. Most of the wildlife here is heartier, tougher. The insects, the rodents... everything has a bit of an ashen, sullied color to it, with reds and oranges peeking out beneath the dust.

There is a fork in the road, up ahead.

Roll 1d4.
1-2: You take a path to the right, which continues upward to the mountaintop.
3-4: You take a path to the left, which seems to wind down and into a thicket of trees.

Aqua trotted to the end of the trail and stopped when she came to a fork in the trail. She looked to the left and then to the right. Hmm...which direction should I take she thought to herself. She looked to the right and noticed the trail continued up to the mountain peak and thought about the pros and cons of continuing up that way. She then looked to the left and saw that the trail winded down into a thicket of trees. Well, to be honest, the thicket of trees looked like a nice change from seeing rock and more rock as she climbed to the top.

She pondered for a bit and thought about the pros and cons of going into the thicket. She honestly was partial to the thicket of trees so she decided to follow the trail down to the thicket of trees, curious what there was in there and it served for a nice change of scenery. She trotted down the trail towards the thicket of trees.

The thicket of trees has certainly made this place cooler- a perfect place for a lost pony to try and beat the heat. As a matter of fact, it seems that one pony has had that very idea themselves.

"Ah... hello there..." the mysterious pony greets you. They seem to be dripping sweat and absolutely exhausted, barely able to stand. Yet they still smile, even as out of sorts as they are.

"Awfully hot, isn't it? Do... do you have any water, by chance?"

Do you take them back to the beach? Or try to help here?

Every pony picked their path, going either up the mountain or into the caves. Mango herself decided to go into the caves, A thought had struck her that a pony might think it an easy way to stave off the heat from outside. Unfortunately, soon after entering the cave, Mango realized how wrong that was. It was hotter than one would think. She shifted her bag on her back, slightly uncomfortable. Slowly, she continued through the caverns, until....

Well, she was horribly lost. This could have been what happened to any other ponies who happened upon this cave. Without thinking, like she normally would, the large earth pony trotted on ahead. She wanted to find any ponies that might have wandered in.

Pumpkin Spice felt the heat nonetheless, mountain or not. He was a fall pony, not a summer one. As he approached the mountain, he saw two choices. To go into the caves, or to continue on the trail. He chose the trail.

Pumpkin Spice was feeling a bit off, not really knowing how the pony looked like that he was supposed to be looking for. Were they nice? Were they mean? Everything looked really deserted. Really dead. Somewhere he did not want to be.

With a fork in front of him, Pumpkin Spice had to make another decision. To keep going up the mountain, or to possibly go down into the trees. He chose left, taking the trail down.

While Babble hadn't had the foresight to bring any sort of light with her, she brought her good spirits. The summer pony was more than happyto explore the cave, which didn't seem particularly warm or cool to her, regardless of it being (for the time being) out of the sun.

"Maybe some pony is hiding in here looking for shade. It is out of the sun, after all. Ooh, or maybe we'll find treasure hidden inside one of these caves instead!" She chattered to her Serapent, who was presently curled around her neck, rather than trying to figure out where to fly in the dark.

Occasionally, Babble had bumped into a wall or a rock-face, but she didn't mind. She just kept striding forward, lifting her head and squinting.
"This sure is an adventure, huh, Ripple? This will be an awesome story, I just know it! Every pony will want to hear all about our adventure today!"

Aqua blinked and was surprised when she saw a mysterious pony talking to her "Uh yes...it is quite hot today" she told them. She took a moment to scan the pony from the looks of it they were friends with the pony that had washed up on shore at the beach. "I do not have any water with me at the moment, but I have a few friends back at the beach who has water for you. Do you want me to take you there and give you some water?" she asked the mysterious pony.

"Oh I would like that very much." The mysterious pony responds, raising to shaky feet and following as best they can.

Once you deposit the pony with the healers, you set back off towards the mountainside again, following the twisting paths as you're reasonably certain that another pony could be lost up there if you found this one trying to survive the heat!

Once again you come to the fork in the road and this time swing to the right, following the sun beaten rocks up and up... only to be met with another fork. What is it with the ponies that built these paths?!

Roll 1d4.
1-2: You take a path to the left, a narrow path that seems to curve around a cut out side of the mountain.
3-4: You take a path to the right, this path is wider and there looks to be a small canyon clearing below.
