The Sound of Music. What can I say but call it one of the best musicals ever created. The music alone has become immortal, with many of it's songs transcending the musical genre. "My Favorite Things" is popular with children at Christmas. "Climb Every Mountain" is popular in some churches. "Edelweiss" is just a great song.
Edelweiss, Edelweiss Every morning you greet me Small and white, clean and bright You look happy to meet me
Blossom of snow may you bloom and grow Bloom and grow forever
Edelweiss, Edelweiss Bless my homeland forever
So short, so simple, yet powerful whenever a group of people sing it together.
Now, lets talk about the movie. Julie Andrews is wonderful, as is Christopher Plummer. It's a little long at almost 4 hours, but the musical numbers let the movie fly by. Even without the music, the amazing storyline alone may have been enough to sell the movie. But, maybe I'm a little biased, because if you gave me any movie set during World War II, and centered around Nazi invasions/the Holocaust, I'm sold. XD
