A condition where the membrane around the heart gets waterlogged, putting pressure on the heart and making it so you require medication treating the condition to live.

My grandmother on my dad's side (my only surviving grandparent) got diagnosed with it today. D:

I'm sorry to hear that ~ having to be on meds for the duration stinks. Hopefully side effects are few, and treatment works wells.

Hmm... someone actually chose the pollwhore option? D:

This guild, like all others on Gaia, is full of poll whores. I myself am a recovering poll whore, but enough on that. I do care and it makes me curious so I go and look it up. The good news is it is not immediately life threatening. I still have both of my Grandmothers, and my family is counting the days we have left. My elder grandmother is 92 and had a stroke a month before I was born, that was 24 years ago but it marked the start of her decline though she is still independant. My other grandmother is 84 and had a heart attack 7 years ago followed by an open-heart triple bypass and is starting to show the signs of losing her mind, though after they took her off the anti-biotic that was making it worse she has regained the ability to remember the rules of football and is still independant.
sweatdrop Now if you've made it thru all that (or just skipped to this part) there is a reason for me telling you all that. This diagnoses does not mean his life is over, just make sure he takes his meds and he could very well live another decade or more. Just don't give up Hope.

I'm extremely sorry to hear about the diagnosis. A lot opf people in my family die from heart issues, but most were told what they had many years before hand. So, I'm figuring as long as she takes care of herself you will continue to be around her for years. I do hope for the best with the treatment!

I'm sorry to hear that. I know exactly how you feel. My mom was diagnosed with CHF a few years ago and was put on medication for it. Unfortunately, she passed away last spring, due to other complications. *sigh* ... My new boyfriend also has CHF and is on medications for it. *another sigh* ... The best we can do is to make sure he takes care of himself and continues to take his medications as directed. And to live life to it's fullest for the time that we have left in this world. 3nodding
