While gentle in nature, he can be sometimes overbearing if he feels someone is being wronged or if he feels someone needs protection. Often times he comes off a bit socially awkward but this is only due to his lack of having been around others enough. Although pushy at times, Swimdeep really isn't obnoxious. He enjoys easy living and tends to explore on his own, letting the currents take him where they will. Adventurous at heart, he is also cautious about the dangers of open water and prefers to stay close to reefs and rocks. Backstory: Born among a reef, Swimdeep had a good life, rarely bothered by predators or hostile mers. Though he didn't stay close to his herd, he felt connected to his family. One day a strange thing floated down through the waters made of wood and canvas and carrying strange two-legged creatures. Curious, Swimdeep and other members of his herd went to investigate, but the creatures did not seem to be alive anymore and were soon forgotten. Weeks past and there came a strange taste in the water. Soon after the reef and surrounding kelp began to die. Some of the herd became sick. Eventually the elders of the herd realized that the strange wooden monolith was to blame, the two-leggers had brought something into the water with them when they sank. The herd made the difficult decision to leave their home reef and many scattered to the currents. Swimdeep became separated from his parents and siblings, caught in an under current. He tried to reunite with them, but after many months of searching, he realized he had no way to find them. Sad and alone, he wanders the ocean, looking for a new place to call home, and perhaps a herd to accept him as one of their own. Brooding and given to fits of rage, the stallion does best on his own or around other that are not afraid to try and see past his moods. Often, he will come across as gentle and considerate, but this is usually a ploy to suss out how useful the horse he's interacting with may be to him. Illidan can be manipulative and secretive, his motives known only to himself. Deep down, though, he is remorseful and sad for the bad choices that brought him to the cursed life he leads now. Recently, Illidan has started to see more of a positive outlook on life, having been blessed with a loving mate and several children, both by blood and adopted. While still very stoic, he has started to soften some around edges. At least toward his family, anyway. Backstory:As a colt, Illidan was always drawn to the forbidden magics, those practiced by the two-leggers. Although his herd often tried to steer him away from these practices, Illidan could not quell his fascination. His own brother and a mare he cared for deeply had the best luck in refocusing his interests into the more natural magics the herd honored and, for a time, Illidan found joy in these magics, though he still secretly longed for the magic of the humans. It came suddenly one day into their herd's territory, a skinwalker on the hunt. Trying every magic that nature lent them, the herd was losing the battle against the powerful enemy. In desperation, Illidan galloped to the nearest human village, a place he was quite familiar with from his curiosity of their magic, and sought out a shaman. One appeared before him, a somewhat shady and repugnant man, and offered to help him use human magic to save his herd. Illidan agreed, putting the thoughts of the welfare of his herd--particularly his brother and the mare--above the possibility that what he was doing was wrong. Before he had a chance to back out of the deal, the shaman led him to a dark and disgusting teepee to perform the ritual, searing Illidan's eyes away and granting him magic sight. As the shaman knew it would, the spell brought forth the kalona blood, Illidan did not know he carried and his body warped and twisted, becoming one of the cursed breed his people feared. The shaman laughed, himself a worshiper of the god Kalona, and sent Illidan into the night confused and shaken. Knowing what had happened was terrible, Illidan pushed those thoughts aside and rushed back to his herd. He'd gained what he'd sought--a way to beat back the skinwalker--and then some. Bursting onto the scene, he lunged at the enemy, fighting a battle worth renown. At last the skinwalker knew it was surely matched by this new enemy and fled from the herd's land. What came next was not gratitude, though. The herd, while relieved that Illidan had beaten back the enemy were even more appalled by his new form, by the knowledge he'd disobeyed and sought the human magic again. While they could not allow him to live in their lands, they took consideration that he'd sacrificed himself for the herd and proceeded to banish him rather than kill him. He was told to leave, to never return upon pain of death, and in that Illidan lost his home, his herd, his love interest, and his family. He had no choice but to flee and live as an outcast. Wandering alone, still coming to terms with his new life, Illidan found his way to a valley, but not a lush valley. No. It was ravaged and forsaken, only sparse vegetation making a defiant stand upon the cracked and desolate earth. Lava flowed freely in the cracks of the land like wounds in the earth. Illidan made his home in these lands, hunting game or, when they were scarce, living off the pathetic weeds. Years past and the valley began to be home to other horses of the cursed nature. Illidan defended his small territory, but found himself soon on the wrong side of a rivalry with another kalona. Losing more ground everyday, Illidan fled once again, being driven from his home for the second time in his life. Illidan's travels soon brought him to a new land, this one lush and much like the land of his birth. Seeking a new home, he wandered through the forests and plains, liking this new land. Now his choice is clear: either seek out new territory to claim as his own, or raise up his own herd--one that would not care that he's cursed. She doesn't take crap off people and isn't afraid to put a hoof to someone's head to get her point across. Secretly, she feels inadequate at times due to her mutant heritage. Often her aggression is to, in her mind, make up for being so freakish. She is all too aware that other Soquili fear her kind and even more aware that she is much more frightening than other kelpi due to her serpentine features. Backstory:Once a member of the original Naga herd, she came to the Soquili lands upon the destruction of the herd. She established herself in a cave on the beach near the Western swamps and befriended a strange Kalona named Illidan. He visited often, feeling a kinship with her for their shared strangeness. Once he even brought the mare that would be his mate to ask for help in finding a lost foal. Mostly, though, she was left alone. Then one day he came. The strange broken stallion that believed in something called voodoo and sought to harness the power of the sea. Atal'ai had come and found a place in her heart. He stayed long enough to sire children on her and see them born, then stole one away, running back to his herd in the swamp. Heartbroken, Darkspire decided she would focus only on loving and caring for her remaining foal, Zalashji Eventually, the twins appeared and began gathering the naga together again. It seemed very likely that her breed would thrive again. Sometime after the herd was established on an island off the coast of the Western swamps, Atal'ai appeared again in the company of Zalashji. She learned that the foal Atal'ai had taken was male and also had left his father's herd. She pressed Atal'ai for his location, but the stallion knew not where his son had gone. Vowing to find her lost son, Darkspine and Zalashji began taking turns to find Naj'entus, as Atal'ai had named him. They began spreading out their search, moving far past their territory and the swamp. Eventually, Darkspine swam across the bay to try searching the lands opposite the Naga herd's territory. She found her way to a mountain path where she met a herd called Moonglade. This turned out to be a fortuitous event, not because she found her missing son, but she gained a mate. Moam, the leader, sought to form an alliance with another herd to strengthen his own. At first it was merely an agreement of diplomacy, but the two developed true feelings for each other, having a shared background of failed relationships and hardships.She would not leave her herd, though, and he could not leave his. Eventually, they worked out an arrangement, the other just being a flight or a swim away. Time will tell what the future holds for them. Believing himself to be a spirit of the forest, he often refers to himseld in third person (even in his thoughts) and always with the definitive article "the" before his name. He is, in his mind, the Croatoan. Sometimes gentle, often ambiguous, his poor mind is completely disjointed and out of touch with reality, possibly a result of dubious heritage. Backstory:The product of dubious parentage, the Croatoan knows neither his father nor his mother, though it is safe to say at least one of them was a cyrenei. Left in the forest in his basket, the first thing he saw upon emerging were fireflies dancing along the edge of the stream his basket lay near. The twinkling lights flitting about in the air reminded the young foal of his own mystical glowing. It was a sign that the Croatoan was meant to protect the glade, that his father must have been a forest god. Why else would his mother choose any other as a mate and then leave her foal behind to watch over the wood? As the stallion got older, his grasp of reality began slipping even further into the mythos he'd created for himself as the son of a forest god charged with protecting the glade his mother had left him in. Despite verging on being delusional and somewhat schizophrenic, the Croatoan is a good sort and will be protective of those he grows close to. He does not seem to share his father's temper, though he did inherit his stubbornness. Wise for his age, Coridan takes after his mother in temperament, unless angered. He can be fiercely protective of those he is close to. Backstory:The eldest child of Illidan, but a b*****d offspring from a fling, Coridan is unsure of his place within the Stormrage family herd. He was not comfortable living with his mother and sister, feeling too different from them and knowing they would be unable to teach him to use his wings, and so he moved to live with his father, learning from him all that the stallion had to share. For awhile, he took comfort in knowing that he was his father's heir until his father fell in love with a mare from a strange land and took her for a lifemate. Now Coridan shares his father's time and love with step-children and knows that it will be even further stretched should there be new children. Not wanting to live in his father's shadow or be a burden, he left as soon as he was big enough to take care of himself and sought out a land he could call his own, to perhaps start his own family. Along the way he met his best friend Dagny, though he could not stay close to her lands. Eventually, he found his way to a swamp and met Nicor. He couldn't explain what he felt for the mare, but in her he saw someone struggling with family expectations as much as he himself was.
