-Introduction-

Geezerville is a collection of roleplay threads that are connected with each other to create a virtual town on Gaia. Within is a combination of real life and fantasy elements. Locations, people, races, and lore from real life, Gaia, other works of fiction, and completely from the minds of those participating are all used and welcome.

Most characters are represented by Gaia avatars, so however you dress your avatar, that is what your character will be assumed to look like unless you specify otherwise. Those with multiple characters tend to use separate accounts for each character, but there are those who portray multiple characters on a single account. If you are wishing to do the latter, just know right now that you are going to at times confuse people.
{{I should know sweatdrop }} However, there is nothing wrong with that practice so don't let it discourage you if you really want more than one character.

The roleplay style is generally relaxed and very open, so no need to ask if you can join. We do not have any solid rule set at this moment, but we do like for players to be polite in their actions even if their character isn't. By this I mean, please try to refrain from dictating the actions of other players unless you have their permission to do so, and try to keep what you know about the storyline as a player separate from what your character knows from their experience.

Try not to take anything too seriously. This is the most important part of all. We do this for fun. Sometimes there is no plot and we all just sit around and BS for a while. Actually... that's most of the time. sweatdrop So do not feel as if your character has to be something specific and do certain things.

If you are new to Geezerville and/or roleplay in general, you may use this thread to post any questions and comments you may have and use it as a practice ground until you feel comfortable enough to further immerse yourself into the world. If you are already a part of Geezerville, be sure to check in now and then for updates on threads, announcements, to answer questions, and to meet and greet newcomers.

Feel free to also leave comments and suggestions here on how to improve the Geezerville Information Center. While I may be the one who made this thread, I consider it owned by the general population of Geezerville and an open project for any and all to contribute to. As such, if you want something added or edited and I'm not on, feel free to contact a mod to have the changes made for you. Note to mods: establishment descriptions should only be edited upon the request of the thread's owner.

bandaidd: what?! that's the whole reason I campaigned to be a mod... so I could wantonly edit posts. It's like the only wanton thing I really DO. Gosh, Tes. You're really bumming me out here. *frowny face*

Psyzapp-d: Pft!! talk2hand You and me both Bandaidd. Why do you have to be such a "Debbie Downer" TES? talk2hand

-Welcome to Geezerville-

The Geezerville Information Center is a very simple, small building, purposefully placed in a rather easy to get to spot on the edge of downtown Geezerville. Despite the building's size, there is a large parking area, sometimes used for those visiting places other than the Information Center.

Inside, there is a long desk with a guestbook which visitors can choose to sign if they want to along with computer terminals and telephones for employee use only. During daytime hours, there can be as many as five assistants {NPCs} behind the desk, ready and waiting to answer any and all inquiries by whatever means they come in. During the late night hours, there is usually just one assistant.

In a card holder by the guestbook is a stack of business cards containing the location, phone number, and email address of the Information Center. Lining the front of the desk are several slots containing brochures and menus for the various attractions and businesses within Geezerville as well as some road maps. To the left of the desk, within easy view of the assistants, is a small collection of Geezerville merchandise and souvenirs including mugs, t-shirts, buttons, and postcards amongst other things.

To the right of the front desk, hung up on the wall is a large bulletin board that has been recently replaced, so it's currently free of any holes, pins, or staples. In the front corner of the room, a bit to the side of the board is a small podium. On top of it is a cardboard box with a slot cut into the top of it, and on the front is written "SUGGESTIONS?" in a thick, black marker. There are some index cards provided by the box and a coffee mug full of pens.

Further into the building, there are a few basic tables and chairs, a couple of trash cans, various plastic trees put up for decoration that seem to just collect dust, two computers with internet access, some rather worn looking couches, two vending machines - one with snacks and another with sodas, a counter that has a coffee maker accompanied by packets of sweeteners and creamers, a small bookshelf filled with literature about Geezerville, a television with limited channels, and a payphone. In the very back, there are restrooms separated by gender, each having just two stalls and two sinks. It used to just be one bathroom, but there was a wall built to separate it into two.

Every now and then, representatives from some of the various establishments within Geezerville will drop off food, freebies, and coupons, but most of the time, the only things you will get from here are the things that the Information Center provides.

{{NPCs are open for anyone to control at any time. If someone posts with a question that you know the answer to but don't want your "character" to be here, use an NPC to answer for them.}}

-FAQ-

Q: I'm new to roleplay and I'm kind of nervous about getting involved because I don't want to be intruding on anything.
A: Well, that's not really a question, but don't worry about joining in with Geezerville. It's an open roleplay that anyone can join at any time. Don't be afraid to ask questions if you find something confusing. Believe it or not, most of us do not have much experience in the more "formal" kind of roleplay. A lot of it is casual conversation and spur of the moment actions rather than anything serious and calculated.

Q: Why are people saying my character was passed out/sleeping/deep in thought while I was offline?
A: Events in Geezerville happen in "real time", or at least something like it, unless otherwise specified. What that means is that people are only considered actually there as long as they are online. If you do not want your character to be thought of as someone who sleeps in public, try to make an exit before signing off or leave someone instructions to write your character out of its current location in the chance that you go offline suddenly.

Q: Why do people sometimes use double parenthesis/brackets in their posts?
A: When you see something written in double parenthesis ((like this)) or brackets {{like this}}, that means they are making an out-of-character comment. Out-of-character comments are when the player has something they want to say that does not necessarily involve their character or what their character is currently doing. Sometimes people post only out of character when they are following along with the story but do not have their character there at that moment and that is perfectly acceptable.

Q: Is it necessary to read every page of every thread?
A: No. Some of us read everything because we find it interesting, but if you have no time or patience for such, do not feel like you are obligated to do so. Chances are, your character would not have known about the events that took place anyway, and you can always ask questions if people start talking about something that you have no knowledge of either in character or out of character. There will usually be someone willing to give you a summary of what you're missing.

Q: Why is my cheese wet?
A: With all natural cheddars, it is common for a small amount of moisture to develop inside the package. In most cases this moisture will be minimal; however, there are circumstances where it may be quite noticeable. In the case of more mature cheeses, the proteins in the cheese will give up moisture as they age in a process known as "synerisis". This is a natural consequence of the aging process and does not damage the cheese in any way. Rather, it allows the cheese to reach the next stage of maturity, that sharp crumbly texture so many cheese lovers seek. We recommend that you simply wipe off any excessive moisture, wrap the cheese in fresh plastic wrap and store in the refrigerator.
