So, I've been watching a couple tournaments on the Team Sp00ky stream. I suggest you look them up, they are incredibly entertaining to watch and have all the top players. So from Winter Brawl, Wednesday night fights, and Final Round. This is what I think the tier list will look like. Top. These are basically the characters who once they start up, they don't stop. Phoenix T. Bonne Dante Taskmaster Zero She-Hulk Spencer Sentinel - He is on here not because he doesn't stop but because he only needs one good combo to kill you. High. Solid Characters, essentially the whole cast really, I'll just name a few that stand out. Doctor Doom Super Skrull Wolverine Hulk Amaterasu Magneto Dormammu Storm Assist Strength. Akuma - Spin kicks Sentinel - Sentinel Force Doctor Doom - Hidden Missile T.Bonne - Gustaff Fire Chun-li - Lightning Legs Dante - Jam Session, Weasel Shot Spencer - H. Grapple I'll update this as I see more matches. If ya'll are interested to see one of the more recent tournaments, here is a link. http://www.justin.tv/teamsp00ky/b/281519400MvC3 Starts around part 5. Skip to Part 6 to see the Top 8. So anyway, thoughts?

I think it's really too early to tell tiers so far, considering how much the tier list changed in MvC2 over the years. It practically turned upside down. I think it's okay to say the high tier, but not really top. One criticism on your top tier list that many people would disagree with is Phoenix and Sentinel.
Phoenix is only really great as Dark Phoenix, and that requires saving your meter. However a competent player will snap in Phoenix and take her out before that can happen. She dies in one combo to anyone, basically. Sent is strong as ******** if the team is all slowpokes, but one quick rushdown character and they can infinite him due to his size.
I don't think it's too early to judge assists though. Some assists obviously stand out in utility over others. The ones you posted are obviously amazing, though I'd like to add that your forgot Haggar's Lariat. It's amazing for getting people off you if you ******** up.
I really do have a hard time disagreeing with your top list though, from what we've seen so far. If the gameplay stays static and doesn't evolve from here into different team comps, then you're onto something. Except Phoenix, imo. Sent may not be amazing on point due to his weakness to rushdown, but Sentinel Force is still such an insanely good assist he'll always be top tier.

Hp usually isn't taken into account in a tier list. Some of the best characters in ssf4 have the lowest health in the game(Seth, Akuma). And it's a little weird you pick those two, as those two are the ones generally agreed upon to be top tier in the tournament scene. If phoenix gets you, even in normal form, you're done. It's just that everyone holds her back till they have 5 bars and doesn't risk losing her, and then when she is snapped in they don't want to use 2 bars to safely switch her out so they hard tag and that's usually sufficient enough time to kill her while they are running from you. The only good phoenix I've seen is Clockw0rk's. He's supposedly replacing her till he gets better, he sees her as a crutch. Oh, and she hits really, really hard. That's why when someone does pull out a dark phoenix, most people run and try to time out if they have the life lead. And in MvC2, everyone had an infinite against sentinel. Sentinel will always be the biggest threat on any team he is put on, aside from phoenix. X factor sentinel will chip you to death in an instant. Justin Wong said if you want to be good at MvC3, just put sent on your team.

I don't see how you can say she's top tier when you post that everyone uses her as a win button and then loses when she's inevitably snapped back in. The thing is, she's only top tier if you're playing at a level above your opponent. You have to completely dominate them with her, and one slip up and she's done. I just don't see her as anything but situational.
And I'm not saying Sent is bad either, just that he's not top tier. He's very solid and definitely high, but I just don't think he's as strong on point as a lot of people. I'm pretty scrubby but I never really have trouble against sent online because I know how to deal with him.
People are still playing this game like MvC2 + x factor, and when people start playing it like MvC3 the tiers will be very different.
Really I feel the game is overall really well balanced since every character is great. I don't feel the characters themselves fit into tiers so much yet, more along the lines of certain tournament players are just a lot better than others and so the ones they like best are looking better.

If I can find some of clockw0rk's matches I'll show you. I know that if you catch her she's dead, but that has nothing to do with how good she is, just how risky it is to use her. Strider was the same way. And I'm looking at sent like I look at E. Honda. He just dishes out crazy damage, if he gets a few good hits in your done.

I really just don't think it's fair to ignore her single combo and she's dead hp to keep her in top tier. Hell, you say she's risky, that's a pretty big negative. Strider may have been low health, but his health wasn't single combo in the way that Phoenix is. Hulk can kill her in three hits.
I honestly tend to disagree with tiers in general unless there are some obvious differences in character power.
A good tier list is like what SvC Chaos has: GEESE, Zero, Chun, Tessa, everyone else. Zero, Chun, and Tessa were obviously so much better than anyone due to unblockables (tessa), just great in every way (chun), or a piss easy infinite (Zero) yet even then they were out classed in every way by Geese who had all of it.
Assists in this game have obvious tiers though. Hidden Missile, Lightning Legs, Akuma's Spin Kicks, and Sentinel Force.

Yes two pro gamers used the same character and both based their strategy the same way, and both were gentleman and decided not to sacrifice a bar to snap in and destroy Phoenix because they both wanted to d phoenix vs d phoenix.
It's not like the commentary in the video explained much since he was doing play by play and not analysis, so if you'd like to explain more than "these guys are good and used her and did well" then feel free.

Sent's HP was nerfed. This is probably not as huge a deal as people are so far making it out to be, though it does somewhat change his playstyle.
Really I think it's a dumb change, and that perhaps lowering his chip damage would have been better.
I mean I'm a total scrub so I'm likely also playing against other scrubs, but I rarely have trouble against a sentinel as long as I manage to get in and start punching.
Surprised at the lack of X Factor changes though. I think rather than nerfing Sent or changing Phoenix (which they didn't, which surprises me considering how much whining I hear about her) they could lower how long level 3 X Factor lasts or something.
