Cause I have a copy of Morrowind, and I'm considering installing it. However, I found Oblivion a little overwhelming, and I felt like it was so... same-ish. Talk to NPC, go here, kill this, get that, come back to NPC, get item, yay. I just couldn't get into it. (Weirdly enough, I love Fallout 3/New Vegas as some of you know)

Sure, there was a lot of stuff you could do, but like I said. So much stuff, so little at the same time. Plus the glitches just bugged me. And the game just seemed to hold my hand throughout everything. They want the world to be HUGE? Don't give me an instant transportation system.

I'm really getting into PC gaming lately, so I'm looking for more games on my PC. This one I've heard people rant on and on about. But I want some of your opinions. What makes it better, if it really is?

I haven't played Oblivion, but from what you've described, I would say that Morrowind does a little less hand-holding and encourages you to explore the world on your own more.

Because there are ten thousand more mods for Morrowind than Oblivion and you can use alchemy to drink potions to give you godly stats and beat the toughest enemy in the game in an hour. Oh and mushroom houses.

The actual gameplay is worse, as far as combat goes. The world is more imaginative than Oblivion, but in my opinion Oblivion is still more fun with mods than Morrowind is. I just like the mods that change the gear and levelling and I don't use fast travel and then it's way neater than Morrowind.

Oblivion has far superior combat (not hard considering the shitfest that combat was in Morrowind), but Morrowind has bajillions of mods, less insipid dialogue, tons more factions to join, is The Anti Hand Holder, has one of the most convincingly-made settings for any game, and also has one of the most unique and developed art styles around.

If you don't have any problem using your imagination to self-enforce roleplaying, or just like exploring, Morrowind will keep you entirely too busy for entirely too long.

IMO the only plus that Morrowind has over Oblivion is WHY WALK WHEN YOU CAN RIDE, OUTLANDER?

What makes it better for the PC is the ******** of mods (including mods that make combat bearable).
Seriously, ******** the combat in that game.
You could full on hit somebody in the face with a sword and it would tell you tha you missed.
At least in Oblivion even if you weren't skilled in something you would still hit them in the face if you actually you know HIT THEM IN THE FACE.

Morrowind is a miserable game to play combat wise until like, level 15.

But there are mods to get around that and they make the game s**t TONS of fun

The writing in Morrowind is far superior, and it's less generic fantasy. It's way more surreal. The environments are beautiful in Morrowind for such a dated game (and there are guides online that allow you to play the game updated for 2009 and 2011), from very evident swampy regions to the harsh, dusty ash region, to the mushroom-housed archipelagos to the east...way better.

I do want to get into Morrowind but being not used to PC games in general, let alone RPGs, I find it really overwhelming. Every time I try, I just have no idea what I'm doing.
