I was wondering if there are any others in the LGBT community who consider themselves conservatives as well? I know it's rather rare to find members of the community who are since social conservatives don't favor rights for the LGBT community. I can't say I agree with social conservatives on all of the issues though. I'm moderate on social issues, but conservative on fiscal issues. I believe that smaller government and lower taxes is always the best way for the people to succeed. It is a principle I'll always support, even if the public officials who advocate for it do not approve of me being transgendered. There are plenty of conservatives though who do support the LGBT community, like myself, out there. I don't believe that liberals truly represent the community, because they do not represent me and my beliefs. There needs to be more outreach by conservatives to the LGBT community. I feel that there are members of the community who support limited government, individual liberty, and free-market principles, but that the social wing has alienated the community with its anti-LGBT positions. If there are any other conservative members out there, please feel free to post. We have to show others that conservatism is the best philosophy of governance, and we have to change our movement from the inside to be more supportive of the LGBT community and LGBT rights. =)

Unfortunately that's true.
I've had no luck finding someone who is a conservative like me. I've only found someone who was uber liberal and one who was a socialist/communist. Obviously relationships don't last long when you have such opposite political beliefs. *sigh*

Well I'm surprised. o.o
I wasn't expecting to find another conservative.

I'd probably use the term classical liberalism over minarchism though.

To be honest, I'm a bit of a reactionary c**t.
So I'm ashamed to admit, but I think my conservatism was if not set off by, then certainly aided by the sheer stupidity of the left wing nuts I live with.
I mean, I know that there are equally retarded arguments being flung from each side,
but this popularization of leftist, liberalism (I use the term as it actually means, not as American and Australian politics have bastardized it to mean) has got far too many people shouting for communism and lower taxes and better healthcare and to let the immigrants in and abolish religion is schooling systems etc all at once, not actually pausing to consider the implications to the country, or pausing to wonder how politics works to have prevented such things from happening already.

Well there’s nothing wrong with being a reactionary. It’s better than being a radical that’s for sure.
I do know what you mean though. I’m the same way. I’ve always been conservative, but when I’m around a lot of left-wing individuals, especially when it comes to political debate, I become much more conservative. It does have to deal with the polarization of the left. The left is far more polarizing than the right is. I’d prefer to use the term progressivism over liberalism though, because you can have centrist liberals, as compared to leftist progressives. But you are right. If the left had its way, we’d have a communistic society. We’d all pay high taxes, we’d have government-run healthcare, we’d have unrestricted immigration, religion would be abolished, and we’d all be walking or riding bikes to get to places. We conservatives are the only thing that stands in the way of their egalitarian, Marxist society. I don’t think they ever consider the implications of their policies and ideas. The lefts prized socialism for example, does not work. It’s done nothing but bankrupt Europe, and now you communists and anarchists rioting in the streets. The only thing the left wants to do is raise your taxes and abolish your religion so that they can make you solely dependent on the state, and take away your individual freedoms in the process.

If you truly want to change your movement from the inside, you'd have to find a way to cut ties with the religious right and drive them into being one of those waste-of-a-vote 3rd parties. That way your party will come off as a lot less Mrs. Carmody and a lot more ........well.....sane.

Oh, and I have a bit of a question about conservativism in general: Isn't the whole free market thing putting a little too much trust in people?

If we cut ties with the religious right, it would only break the party up giving all of the elections to the left. We may be more social moderates, but we are still part of the right and want it to win over the left. And even as a social moderate, I'm still a Christian myself. I don't have much of a problem with the religious right, despite some of their views towards the LGBT community. There's nothing insane about religion.

It might be putting too much trust in the people, but it's better than letting the government, which cannot run anything right control the economy. In the end, the free-market always works out for the best.
