My mom keeps saying she's going to put me on the pill because of me and my boyfriend. Anyway, I have questions that I really don't want to ask my mother and I have been to a doctor yet.
What are your personal experiences with bc?
What are common side effects?
How long does it take to go into effect?
How did your first full exam go? (I've never had one...)
Any thing else that would be nice to know..?

[~+~] Well, the basics of most pills are the following:
You take the pill everyday for 3 weeks.
You then stop taking the pill for a week, during which (this can be straight away, or days into the week - so if you don't get it instantly, don't panic! Also, for the first, at least, few months of taking it, your period won't come at the same time every time during that week) you will have your period.
The side effects vary from person to person: so many of my friends have put on weight (mainly with their boobage area growing), which has not happened to me since i started (and i've been on the pill for at least a few years now), a few have developed achne (which can often result in having to change your pill), and some pretty much don't have any (such as in my case, haha).
A lot of the time the first pill it is often trial and error; if you get too many side effects, they will tell you, most likely, to stick it out for 3 months, as it takes a while for your body to get used to it, but if the symptoms persist, they will change your pill. (It's nothing to panic about, the side effects i've described are rarely anything dramatic, and your doctor will go through all of this with you anyway).
It goes into effect in your first cycle, as i said before, your period may start a lot later into the week, or straight away, it varies.
My experience with birth control overall have been good; then again, i started taking it purely due to how bad my lady pains were. xD;
I've had to change pills once or twice i think because my pain started to come back, but it's no inconvenience.

And my mom only is doing this because she doesn't trust me and my boyfriend..

Eep. In all honesty, most girls who are sexually active (which you probably will be eventually if you're not already - that's not meant in an offensive way!) end up going on the pill anyway; it gives you one less thing and precaution to worry about.

like it was already posted you take the pill daily for 3 weeks and get your period on the 4th
the thing that happened to me is that i did gain weight (about 5 lbs) and i had bad cramps the week before my period
other than that it did clear up skin and I am baby free
