It's starting to drive me insane that every time I log onto
Gaia there are just faaar to many new announcements
about random things that don't interest me! .____.
They should consider letting us choose what we want
to see in announcements and what we don't...

I agree with this! I don't care for Gaians Gone Wild announcements because it's not like I can go to these events, I want to be able to disable certain announcements.

For a while I stopped reading them completely... But then I got super OCD about the speech bubble that kept popping up saying I have ten announcements to read. D; I broke down.

Just click 'em to get rid of them, it only takes a second if you don't let them pile up. You don't have to read them.
Maybe if they sent specific announcement types with different NPC accounts, like how the RIG (CI) announcements are sent with the accountant dude, and just normal Cash Shop updates, like new bundles being available, are sent with the star twins.
But the announcements don't bother me, 'cause I just look at the title to determine whether or not it's an announcement I care about. If it's not, just move on your merry little way.

I totally agree. I wish there was like an option to delete all new announcements in one click. Same for guild announcements.
I only read the ones from IAGT haha :]

I'd just click them all and choose to read.
Gaia events are plain stupid, since not everyone can go.
I tend to read only Cash/Gold Shop, ZOMG and EI updates.
