SSSOOO yes I know we in general frown upon pets as gifts, but I am happy with him, he is a little half moon Betta, he is not all the way colored yet, he came from petco, and then lived in his cup for a couple extra days hidden in my moms room, so he is de-stressing, and starting to be himself. I actually found the tank (its a little 2g that is originally made for glo fish) in my moms trunk, and thought it must have been for someone else, till I told her I put my "girl gift" into the trunk, and she accused me of snooping after she told me to stay out of her trunk (which she never told me LOL) Then on christmas morning, I was dawdling before feeding the horses (I honestly don't remember why) and happened to glance down, and see something plugged in to the outlet box there, and I thought my brother had plugged the mini fridge back in, which is empty, thus wasting energy, and I was just about to get mad, when I followed the cords, and saw a little bit of the aquarium, (I did no further "snooping" even though that was an accident, and I did not tell my mom, because I did not want to ruin her surprise for me, so I had to do some TERRIBLE acting) I guess the night before, I had come down stairs while my mom and brother were setting it up, my brother woke me up banging something, and I went down to yell at him xd Anyways, I named him Nichodemus, and then shortly after decided that it just didn't fit with him, so I renamed him Jonah smile Jonah's tankJonah checking out my camerazzzooommm!!!! he likes his tank, much better than the cup!working on his agility, he has to get in shape for summer time, has to be ready to catch the yummy mosquito larvae!don't mind me, I will just tear your face off! be glad I am the size of a french fry, be glad!!!!good looking lil guy smile

Oh, he'll be pretty. <3 I predict a dark body and marbled red butterflying with smoke fin tips. He's precious!
He looks like his fins are in a bad way, though. D: I know HMs grow into their fins since both of my HMs did, but he looks like he was hit with fin rot because of the way the edges of his fins are so dark. >< Just keep a close eye on him, I reckon!
You must get pics whenever he colors up! =D

I will be sure to get more pics in a few months xD

I'd put a bit of aquarium salt in the tank to be sure. It looks like a nasty bout of rot to me, and even if it is not there is no harm with being on the safe side.

Subliminal Aftermath I'd put a bit of aquarium salt in the tank to be sure. It looks like a nasty bout of rot to me, and even if it is not there is no harm with being on the safe side. yea, I think I have some around here somewhere, I can't help but wonder if he was self mutilating at one point, it isn't on either of his side fins, they look great, and I don't think his tail has gone down at all. He is so funny, I fed him yesterday, his dinner, he ate 4 pellets, then I went down about 2 hrs later to shut off his light, and he came swimming over like "OOHH FOOD!!" and I was like really?? lol but I didn't give him any xD EDIT: I looked at him with a flash light, and it looks like he does in fact have fin rot (it was hard to see with the lighting, but with the flash light I could see that in fact the tips were white) however, I read up on it, and from what I read salt wont help, and it will kill my plants, which I don't want, but I am going to watch him, with good water conditions it might clear up on its own, the rot its self is not that bad, possibly it is already healing, his fins look a little better than they did when I got him, so I am going to keep an eye on him, and if need be, get him some meds smile but so far its just his fins, not his tail or any sores or anything, just a little off coloring and poor looking fins

so, it has only been a couple weeks since I took the pics, but he is looking much better already, I *think* his fins are healing, they were white on the tips when I looked at them with the flashlight, IDK if that is heal or dying, but he acts really happy and healthy other wise, he eats well, and is always excited for food (I found him a mosquito nest a few days ago, but it doesn't look like it is going to hatch) so here are new pics! he looks much better! he has put on weight too smile does anyone know if a tear in his fin would be healing if he had fin rot? cause he did get a tear, and it looks like it is healing well, not rotting, also his flipper fins (the ones on the side that I can't remember the name of) are healthy, they are not at all rotted dinking aroundhe is a total camwhore, he LOOOVES to have his picture taken, and then to see the results lolI took that last pic, and was ready to put the camera away, and he zipped over in front of me and flashed his fins all big and just stayed there like "oohh oohh get this one, you have to!!!" so I said "ok, ONE more" and took it, and showed it to him, and he was a happy fishie lol

By "flipper fins", do you mean the ones by his gills? Those be pectoral fins. :3 Or the two on his belly? (Pelvic fins) But his a**l fin (the big long dressy one on his underside) is looking a lot better than it was when you first got him, and it's looking like a bit of his tail has started to grow back. Those two smaller tears in the a**l fin seem to be all healed up, so now it's just that big tear in the middle of it. biggrin Keep doing what you're doing!
You'll know that the fins are healing when you see a completely transparent growth coming back in. Fins heal clear, and then gain color later on.
Just keep an eye out for if the edges get really ragged looking, like the fin is made out of unraveling thread. That means another bout of rot. x_x I just had that happen with Radeon about a week ago. It's a pain in the arse.
I love his personality, though, the way you describe it. xD I've never really known a fish to be a camwhore! That's so cute! <3

I hope your Betta feels better soon! This morning, I went to feed him, and I put the food in. he zipped over, flashed his fins all big, and waited, I was like o.O then a few seconds later I realized what he was doing. I said "I don't have my camera, go eat" and he drooped his fins and took off to eat xD (I monitor his feedings, so I know that he gets at least two pellets, though usually its 3-4 one time it was 6 I was like NNNOOO thats too many!!! lol also here are even more pics, since he is such a camwhore xD (these were taken with my macro lense camera, so they are closer up) showing offgood one of his tailshowing lots of colorgiving me the stink eye lolthis one is blurry, BUT, it shows off how much he is filling out, and now that I look back on it, he looks MUCH better than he did on Christmas day smile compared to this

You must have some odd mosquitoes lol. It's amazing on how much color he has gained. He's turned out to be quite beautiful! He was so pale when you first got him and fairly colorless. He has also perked up a lot. I can't wait to see what his fins look like once they're fully healed. It looks like they'd be quite pretty! biggrin
