Snot Advancement Exam

Venue: Classroom 13
Time: 10am, upcoming Moonday

*Please be punctual; latecomers will not be allowed to participate.

Professor Malcolm

Malcolm was, to be honest, running out of exam ideas; maybe that was why the students would see a really simple obstacle course laid out in front of them; it was a land obstacle course, with things like cones, pits and the occasional quicksand.

"Well, what are you waiting for?" He seemed a little bored, although he was trying his best to look friendly, "Go on."

Exam Mechanics
Note: You only need one post; but you may feel free to have your student interact/rp with the other students if you wish to! (:

-> Roll 4d10 in one post!
-> An even number means you got through the obstacle successfully!
-> An odd number means you failed to get past the obstacle; you managed to get past it, but with difficulty!
-> Getting a 1 would mean that you are completely stuck, and is an instant fail regardless of your other "scores"; aka your student got stuck and needed Malcolm's help to get out!
-> Match your rolls to the obstacles below and rp it out! If you get a 1, rp your student getting stuck and ignore the rolls after that 1.
-> You fail the exam if you either get a 1 for any of them, or got more than 3 'fails'/odd numbers.

Description of obstacles!
1st number: Cones; you're supposed to go in a zig-zag pattern around the cones as fast as you can! Failing here would mean that you toppled at least one of the cones over! Getting stuck here would probably mean that you knocked everything over and Malcolm asked you to stop...
2nd number: Pits; you're supposed to leap/jump/swing/fly over several pits dug into the ground. Failing here would mean that you you fell in and had to spend some time climbing out. Getting stuck here would probably mean that you fell in... And couldn't climb back out.
3rd number: Netting; you're supposed to crawl under the netting to get to the other side. Failing would mean having a lot of trouble getting out. Getting stuck would mean that you got tangled up with the netting, so much so that you could not move.
4th number: Quicksand; idek how you're getting past this/failing/getting stuck. Be creative, okay? ilu

Amphi breathed in as she entered the room before looking around. There was a simple obstacle course set up for them as the teacher gestured towards it. Eyes widening, Amphi took a hesitant step forward before starting a dead speed run. The good thing is the damn thunder road training she had taken had helped her with dodging and moving through the cones pretty quickly, not even toppling over one.

The next one was pits that had her confounded. Looking at them, she took a hesitant hand over the rope swinging over it and gave the pit a questionable look at the bottom. She really didn't want to do this. Her arms weren't that strong and she didn't even last a moment in the air before she fell in with a small squeak and a soft land on her cushiony bottom: Q A Q.

"Ow ow ow." She whimpered as she scrambled to get back out, taking a few moments which decreased her speed....greatly.

Taking a moment to breathe, the mermaid looked at the netting before frowning. Of all things, because of the hunter events, she hated netting the most. But she would get past it after all to pass the exam and ducked to the ground, using her body like she would in the sea and swimming under the netting to make it clear.

3/4 of obstacles complete. Panting for breath now, Amphi looked at the last one before staring at it.....It was a giant pit of quicksand but....they could walk AROUND it right? Like....using the edges of the wall? So she did so, plastering herself to the wall by the sand trap and letting her feet sink into the sand. She felt a gentle pull but nothing that would drag her in. After a more moments of walking she made it past the trap and rested her hands on her knee's.

"I did it." Amphi breathed in and out, looking for any other students to make it across too. "Come on guys, you can do it." She plastered her hands together at the finishing point and waited.

Mortimer was not one who slept often. He could sustain himself on an unhealthy diet of video games, interweb activity, and (most recently) reading and keeping lists of certain things he was going to need very, very soon.

Upon seeing the note tacked to his dorm room, one would think that the zomboil would take sleep into consideration to be well rested for the exam. He did quite the opposite, however, and stayed up all night. Mort was uptight and more than a little anxious, knowing that his luck in anything physical thus far had proved to be very telling in his suckitude: fighting, defending, using his FEAR - hell, he couldn't even keep his brain's electricity in check, let alone his near-skeletal physique.

There was a chance the exam was written, right? Right? Oh sweet Sally, please be written.

When Mort didn't see pencils, paper, and desks the next day, he looked very deflated and ready to bite his nails down to the core. An obstacle course. Jackin' . . . This reminded him of a much simpler, less death-making Ninja-san challenge, but remembering said challenge and how badly he'd failed that did not do him any good here.

When told to go, Mortimer at first hesitated, index fingers tapping against each other as he surveyed the course with a grimace. Malcolm already looked bored, however, and perhaps this whole event was timed; he couldn't waste it p***y-footing. He was supposed to be showing what he'd learned during his time at Amityville so far, damn it!

So, with a gulp, the zomboil shuffled to the first part of the course. Cones, while notoriously trip-loving, were not nearly as intimidating as the trash robots he and Alex had dealt with; certainly there was no trash chute awaiting him, or a cold iron grip of doom to bring him there. Still, thinking about it seemed to make Mort a little more cautious as he picked up his pace and edged between the cones as fast as he dared. By the time he hit the second portion of the exam, he had quite a bit of momentum going.

Problem being, he wasn't used to going fast. And he swore those holes hadn't been there before.

His downward spiral was simple at first: Mort would trip over a pot hole, barely catching himself before hitting another, narrowly jumping the next larger chasm. His foot suddenly detached with a violent wrench at one point, however, and it just snowballed from there: only with less ice and more him falling apart as the rest of that leg went too.

In the end, Mortimer ended up face planting after a few seconds' worth of falling somewhere in the middle of the second portion, his glasses crushed but still far better off than his pride.

Not even the sting of glass pressing through his cheekbone hurt more than his ego at the moment.

Amphi's cheers went unheard.

Rikki rubbed his eye sleepily as he found his way into the classroom. It was 10 in the morning. Ten in the morning. What the jack. He really didn't want to be doing anything but lazing around his dorm. But noooo, he had to take his exam this morning.

He glanced around at the obstacle course and frowned. It seemed awfully simple, considering the things he'd done for this school. All the fieltrips. Islands, Haunted Houses, the endless battles. Those were challenges. This? This was a playground. Cones, pits, a little netting? That was nothing. How could this be his exam? He glanced to the professor with a questioning look, only to receive his "Go on" statement. Well...

He jogged back a couple steps, then took off with as much speed as he could, disappointed in himself for not jogging at all for the last couple days. Granted, he'd been busy feeling sorry for himself, but now that hardly seemed like an excuse. The cones proves easy enough. At least, they did until he stumbled over his footing, nearly falling and knocking over not one, but two cones. Two cones. Was that how this entire exam was going to go then? He was going to fail the easiest thing he'd done in his time in the school?

The pits threw him for a loop for a moment when he arrived, until he realized who he was. He was a grim. With chains. Chains! Duh. He let the weapon slide off of his arm and grinned. He loved doing this. With a single toss he looped the chains around a hook in the ceiling and took a running leap over the first pit. His heart dropped in the frantic moment where he was swinging over nothing but air, but then his feet touched the other side and he laughed. He'd have to do this more often. The second and third pit went much the same; throw the chains, leap and swing.

The forth pit however, while successful, had too much momentum. Instead of landing on his feet on the other side, he slid. Right into the netting. He got caught in it and was startled enough to cry out for a moment. So much for the streak of success he was having. He growled out in frustration and wiggled wildly until he was free, and then continued on. He'd lost a few minutes being stuck though. Suckish. The end of the net couldn't have come soon enough, Rikki hated crawling in his stomach, and he didn't even look back as he dashed away, on to the next obstacle.

Which was sand. Sand? Quicksand maybe? He couldn't tell, but he didn't want to take the risk. He glanced around for a way to avoid it and clenched his fists. "Think, think, think. Get around it, Nyyrikki." Wait! He could do it like the pits. He glanced at the ceiling, and sure enough there was a way for him to do it. Not a hook, but some other metal protrusion. No doubt a part of the schools plumping or something, whatever it was. Hopefully it would hold though. He tried looping his chains around them, but couldn't quite reach.

Wat do wat do.

Clenching his teeth, he took a few steps back and then took off at a run. When he got to the edge of the sand he jumped, throwing his chains out. His throat constricted as a little panic set in, and then there was the satisfying clang of metal catching on metal and he was swinging across. He let go of one end of his chains and sailed safely to the ground on the other end on the quicksand.

"...That wasn't so bad," he breathed, satisfied.

When Thackery found the concise note pinned to his door, he nearly exploded in excitement. Luckily, he was able to expend the excess energy by bounding back into the privacy of his room to hop up and down on his bed. If anyone saw him being so ridiculous, they might not think he was very deserving of his progression to knob goblin. He just couldn't have that. He had the awesome excellence of the Cerberus family to uphold!

There was so much to be done in preparation!

With another note pinned to his door ("Hi pls come back later I am studying for MY EXAM!!!!! thanks") and his minipets preoccupied with their treats and toys, he had set to work. Most of his time was spent simply planning out the "what ifs" of his exams: he should have thought to ask one of the other students who had already gone through their exams what he might expect, but his self-imposed temporary social exile prevented the idea from coming to mind. Instead, his floor was covered in notes, books, and possibilities, lines drawn from option to option with earwax crayon and high hopes. The rest of his time was used for pouncing around, punching his pillows, and practicing his somersaults. He may have claimed that he was priming himself for an optimal exam outcome, but most of that stuff was done just because it was fun.

The boil showed up at 10 a.m. on the dot, eyes aglow and tail frantically wagging as he surveyed the course. Obstacles and acrobatics and running, oh boy! He was so good at all of those things! He had this!

"Oh, thank you Professor, this will be fun! And I'm good at this stuff!" He could hardly keep still as he gushed at the instructor, bubbling over with over-eager confidence.

He nearly darted right into it, but thought that it might be wise to wait for a prompt to do so, distracting himself in the meantime by watching the students who had started before him. A girl he didn't recognize darted through the course with such expertise that it looked simple; though the rope swing across the pits seemed to give her a bit of trouble, she got back on her feet and was encouraging from the end within just a few short moments. Happily, he gave her a wide and congratulatory wave.

At the professor's uttering of "Go on,", Thackery took off so quickly that he almost tripped over himself. He had been smart enough to leave most of his accessories back in his dorm, having decided during his Potential Exam Possibilities flowcharts and lists and journal entries that there was a very distinct chance it could involve some fighting or gymnastics. The battles and FEARleading practices had all been very good indicators that excess cloth was not at all good for performing well. Unfortunately, he couldn't combat his own occasional clumsiness. He regained his balance from his faltering start with a curse under his breath, pressing on to the set of cones.

The other student just ahead of him - Mort, he thought - made it through with a little hesitation, but ultimately without much trouble. It didn't look too scary! He looped around each cone with ease, his footing firm, his form surprisingly fluid for once. The last cone was passed with a flourish, and he very nearly took a bow, swelling with courage and pride.

Which was a mistake.

He approached the pits as if they would be just as simple, but a hole in the ground was a bit more complicated than a crooked pattern of cones. The first pit was leapt over with relative ease, the Cerberus landing with one of his well-practiced tuck-and-roll somersaults. It might have gone nicely had he remembered to account for momentum.

A pit hastily approaching, he meant to break free of his roll and reach for the rope to swing across. This plan went terribly wrong from the very beginning. He tumbled straight into the pit and hit the side of it with a heavy thud, shaking dirt clods loose form its earthy wall. They rained down on him, covering his skin, fur, and hair alike with dusty filth.

"Oh no, no, no," he whined, forcing himself up. As he peered towards the opening of the pit, his heart sank. How was he going to make it out of this one? His "attack" on the hole had made the dirt a bit too loose to properly climb out, and he surely couldn't jump that high...

...but he had to try anyway.

He spent the next few moments scrabbling up towards the edges of the hole. Though he put forth as much effort as he could possibly muster, he found himself falling just short time and time again. If only he were a few inches taller...being the runt of his triplet litter had never been quite so discouraging.

From the pit came a sigh. Thackery sat and slumped, propping his head up on his hands so he could watch the others pass above him. Maybe, if he cheered them on and willed them to do a better job than he had, they could have a far more successful exam.

Then he would be good for something.

He had spent all his free time studying, alternating between the library and his own dorm, buried in his books, trying to cover every and any subject his exam might cover. It was on more than one occasion that he had grumbled to himself, wishing that he knew the subject of said exam. Maybe that was part of the exam, the torture of not knowing, it wouldn't have surprised him. Despite those thoughts he had continued his studies, determined to prepare himself for whatever came.

And then he was out of time, the exam had come and there was no time left to debate what subjects he may have missed. He was as ready as he was going to be right? Right

Wrong...

Sheridan shook his head at himself as he looked at Professor Malcom and then to the indicate obstacle course. Great, he really should have listened to that voice in his head that told him he should have spent more time in the gym. Really, he should have known, Jack damn it, why had he not gone to the gym?

Well...there was no turning back now.

Still, it wasn't as if he was completely helpless when it came to physical challenges, at least not as much as he had been this time last year. He had grown, and he had battled, he had fought for his life, for his school, and for the lives of his friends. Surely he could pass an exam.

He took a deep breath, pausing only a moment longer before setting out across the course.

The first part was easy enough, and he navigated through the cones without trouble, using his agility to weave in and around the cones. As he ran across the field, his tail swished and swayed behind him with each step, first lashing one way then the other, almost as if it were a rudder. He was light on his feet, his confidence growing, and soon he was through the cones without knocking a single one over.

Pausing, he surveyed the second part of the course, looking over the pits as if debating the best way across. The answer to that was simple, he was a dragon, he had wings, and he was sure he could fly across the obstacles easily enough. Or so he thought...

His wings unfurled, pausing a moment as if searching for some unseen danger, and then he was in the air climbing skyward before soaring across the first pit. It was then that he realized the course was more difficult than he had first thought, and it was only a quick swerve and dodge that had saved him from crashing into the stalactite that suddenly loomed in front of him. Whoa! There was another right in front of him! Another swerve, a dive, a quick dodge, it seemed each time he missed one obstacle, another rose in his path. Perhaps flying had not been the best choice after all, but he refused to stop or give up now, his resolve was set, his determination restored, he was going to make it through this!

Pull up, pull up, turn, turn now! Slow down, stop stop! Left, right, right again, left! He thought he could see the end of the course, the edge of the last pit, he was so close! His attention set ahead, he failed to catch the cracking of rock above his head, unaware his peril when it was too late.

He had scarcely looked up, looking in horror at the falling rock barely an instant before it struck him, sending him plummeting toward the ground, leaving several scratches and bruises on his wings and scales as he crashed into several rock formations on his way down.

CRASH!

And there the dragon lay, pin between rock and pit, fuming to himself as he tried to pry himself free, snarling, lashing his tail, and finally forced to surrender and wait for help from the professor. Sheridan was furious, angry at himself for falling in what had always been his strongest skill, for failing to see or avoid the rock that had thrown him to the ground. His arms crossed, tail twitching like an angry cat. Hmph!

Exam time already. Bea was trying hard to keep herself confident, though she had no idea what was to come. Professor Malcolm... Wasn't he the professor who taught the minipet classes? Bea couldn't remember. It's been a while since she left her dorm room. When she arrived in the classroom, she realized it was an obstacle course. Strange exam... What was it supposed to test her?

"Good morning, Professor Malcolm" she greeted before trying her hand at the course.

After watching a few of the other students try their hand at the course, it became clear that this was going to be no easy task. She looked down at her clean white dress and shook her head in disappointment before leaping towards the Cones as fast as she could, following the other student's examples.

Dash! Dash! DASH! Bea felt herself almost skipping between the cones. It proved to be no challenge. Running though the battlefield towards the tent probably helped her out for this part of the test. Considering she had to maneuver past various traps...

Next up, the pits. Seeing how easy the cones were, Bea is feeling more and more confident now. Using the same tactic as before, she simply leaped over the pits like it was no big deal. Her seaweed tangled hair flowing behind her like it was dancing on her back. So elegant. Bea was sure she looked beautiful doing this part of the course. Showing off. No sense of modesty.

When Bea saw the nets, it was far too long for her to jump over, and far too low for her to avoid. Just as soon as she came up to it, she wasn't going to back down. She grabbed onto her dress with one hand, hoping the dirt and crap didn't get on her, but it was hard to crawl with one arm and two knees. When Bea made it to the middle of the course, her hair got tangled up in the net.

"NO! NOOOO! THIs CAN'T BE HAPPENING,"
Bea screamed in horror.

She tried to untangle her hair but it was just getting worse. She began to flop around like a fish out of water. Poor thing was stuck in the net. She frantically pulled and tugged on her hair, completely forgetting about keeping her dress clean. Her only concern now was to get out of the damn nets. After kicking and pulling, Bea could hear a strange tearing sound... her hair snapped and she flew past the rest of the net course. Without any further delay, Bea continued on the course, she felt like she was on a roll and couldn't be stopped now! Despite having a set back only moments ago.

Last up... the quick sands. This should just be like the pits, right? Just have to jump over them. Bea tried to make another mad dash but the sand had no bearing. Her feet would just sink. When she pulled up her leg to run again, she was bare footed.

"Where did my shoes go!?"
Her eyes darting around frantically trying to find them. She wasn't going to leave her shoes behind! Exam or not! These were her favorite pair!

Bea immediately went back to find her shoes, and there was one... ever so slowly sinking into the sand. She ran back to get it but soon realized her feet were beginning to sink as well. This was a terrible sign. Bea had to make a choice. Save her shoes? Or save herself? This was it. She wanted to pass the exam, regardless of what happened. Bringing back her determination, Bea took a lot of effort to leave her shoes behind and took every step forward in hopes of passing the exam. Eventually, she did get out successfully.

Strange, Bea thought. She suddenly noticed that her head felt a lot lighter. Unsure of what happened, Bea turned back to look where she was stuck... No, it wasn't the quicksand... No, it wasn't the net--- And there it was... In the nets... Chunks of her hair still tangled in the mess... Detached from her head. Bea immediately felt her scalp, running her fingers down her hair only to stop around her shoulders.

Though she made it out of the obstacle course, but at the cost of her hair and shoes.

It was strange, only getting bits and pieces of sensory information to tell him what was going on. He heard someone thump in a pit nearby not long after his own flop, but was unsure of who. Not long after, he saw a dark figure swinging over effortlessly like a comic book hero. And then the dragon student was flying (never was Mort more jealous of wingedness than that moment), the consequence being that somehow stalagmites were being conjured up to stop him; one felt straight down Mort's hole and nearly impaled him, which Jack dammit it, Hel, he wasn't a magnet for pointy things. Seriously. And then he caught a glimpse of a smooth-flowing figure leap across the boundary that had so hungrily swallowed him up, earning him an interested shot of the ghoul's pale legs and, ah, other bits; seconds later, noting the green hair (well, he figured it was hair) and comparing it to the white dress, he realized he'd been looking up the dress of the Movie Club hostess. Well. Er. >w>; It was his silver lining to this failure thus far.

Too bad he didn't get clear images for his efforts, for his glasses were quite broken, and the glass in his face quite hurt. Picking one out of his cheek and tossing it wistfully at one side of the pit (it bounced off harmlessly), he shouted upwards. "H-Hey! How's everyone?"

PostPosted: Fri Jan 27, 2012 10:56 am
... That voice wasn't coming from anyone at the end of the course. Had someone gotten stuck? He paced the edge of the quicksand and frowned. They'd have to backtrack the entire course to find whatever student had been left behind. He hadn't paid enough attention to who had been here at the beginning, so though he recognized Bea, he had no idea who else did and did not belong.

Instead of beginning the trek to find the student, he cupped his hands over his mouth and called back, "Where are you? Are you okay?"

"Mrrr . . . M'okay, glasses broke when f-f-fell in, can't see well, Mort shouted back, wincing a bit as the mouth stretching agitated his stitches and the newly placed shards in his cheeks. He supposed he could try climbing out, but judging the distance he fell and the fact that his near blind sight couldn't tell him solid dirt from loose clods, not to mention the embarrassment of his situation, he was probably better off down there anyway.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 27, 2012 3:25 pm
The other boil who had fallen victim to the literal pits seemed to be in the figurative pits (ha ha). Thackery was glad that he didn't need glasses, because his would surely be smashed to bits too if he were wearing some. It was a good thing he had decided against his rad shades.

"Hi! I'm stuck in a pit too. You're not alone. Well...yeah, you are, but we're separate-pit-buddies I guess." Idly, he wondered if he could tunnel towards the other pit...no, they would probably be rescued before then, and that would mean scrubbing a ridiculous amount of dirt out of his fingernails.

"Did everyone else make it? It looked like you guys did a good job!" He was extremely discouraged over his failure, but his need to be friendly temporarily outweighed that right now.

Amphi had seen two other students make it to the end and a flash of purple and black scales, a Friend she knew very well in the exam.

"Sheridan?" She came back around, looking for the Dragon where ever he may be. It seemed a popular spot though was the pits as she heard the two other students. "Oh...."
