Aloysius carefully adjusted his thick black cloak, glancing down to ensure that it was hiding both his bat wings and the tentacles he had inherited from his father. He had taken recently to wandering the main island, as an escape from the oppressive atmosphere of Hemlock. The Demon paused at the entrance to a small town and took a deep breath. He had visited several towns like this, and he had yet to be recognized for what he was. Surely this would be no different.

Gwylan was sitting on a small bench near his Mom's bakery, reading a book on candy making techniques. He loved the baking, but he wanted to expand. He wanted to do more then baked goods. He wanted... Candies. So he figured he should study hard, before he suggested it to Momma and Mom, just to be safe. And besides, it gave him an excuse to make stuff, so he could test what the possibilities were. His little wings fluttered a bit every time he found a technique that interested him a lot, and he just looked... so happy sitting there.

Aloysius had caught the scent of baked goods, and was following his nose to where they came from. (That, and the directions of a few helpful townsfolk, apparently the place was somewhat popular.) He had been lucky-apparently no one thought twice about a stranger in a thick cloak, no matter how odd he looked.
He came close to what had to be the right building, if the scents were any indication, and couldn't help but notice the figure on the bench. For one, he was handsome (Aloysius couldn't fail to take note of that) and for another, he looked so...happy. His mother would have scoffed, but Aloysius was intrigued. He stopped a few feet away from him, almost feeling bad for breaking his concentration but definitely wanting to talk.
"Excuse me, I'd heard there was a bakery near here...am I close?"

Gwylan's head jerked up, startled, by the sudden voice near him. "Hnuhhh wha?" He blinked, a lot, then slowly relaxed, studying the other 'fox'. "Oh I'm sorry, I was so lost in my book I didn't realize there was some one else there." He blushed some, though if he were asked, it might have been a teensy lie if he said it was JUST because he was embarrassed. After all, the male looking at him... He was decidedly unusual but in a thoroughly fascinating way.
He pondered the other for a moment, then nodded. "Yes, there is. Mom's bakery is over this way. I can take you." He gave the other male a sparkling smile. "It would be my pleasure, in fact, to show you the way."

Oh, well. Now that he had a good look at the one he had disturbed, Aloysius was very glad he'd decided to stop here. He wascute. "Sorry for interrupting," he said. (He could practically hear his mother gagging. She would be so upet to learnt hat he had apologized for anything.) "Sign of a good book, though, right?" He offered a half-smile.
"Oh, the bakery is your mother's? What a lovely stroke of luck for me," Aloysius let out a little chuckle, trying not to be too disarmed by that smile. Yes, cute was definitely the word here. "Please, lead on."

Standing up, he tucked his book under his arm, and used his other hand to brush his hair from his face, his bright blue eyes looking at this male. "A good book? Well I suppose... It's study of a sort, you see. I want to expand on Mom's bakeshop... I want to open a section as a candy shop. I'm sort of hoping to convince Momma to run the shop, while Mom and I do the cooking... Not sure if either of them'd go fo..." He paused, then blushed again. Very red. "My apologies, I'm babbling, you want to go to the shop, and oh dear I haven't even introduced myself! I'm sorry!"
He gave a polite half bow, trying and failing to will his cheeks back to a nice normal shade. "My name is Gwylan Prem-Branwen. And yes, the bakery in town belongs to my Mom."

Aloysius tried not to focus too hard on how utterly adorable the babbling was, or how pretty those eyes were. A voice that sounded suspiciously like his mother's was reminding him not to get too attached, and for once he agreed. This was a one-time visit. More than that and he risked outing himself as a demon, and that would be the end of...whatever was going on.
"It's alright. You'll have to work a bit harder to offend me." Aloysius brushed off his apologies. He couldn't help but smile in the face of such enthusiasm. It wasn't something he was used to seeing. "Aloysius Cooper." He copied the bowing motion, careful to keep his cloak in place. Things would get awkward right quick if it slipped to show off a stray tentacle.

"Tis a pleasure, Aloysius. What brings you to our out of the way town?" He laughed. "I didn't think Mom's cookies and cakes had gotten that much of a following! But perhaps I'm wrong." He studied the other for a moment, then smiled again. "But come, the shop's this way."
He turned and headed towards a side street, making sure Aloysius was following. "If, perhaps, you tell me what sorts of things you like, I can make some recommendations amongst Mom's offerings. Or, of course, let you be the adventurer and figure out what's the best on your own."

Aloysius laughed. "Alas, I wish I could say that was what brought me here, but I only caught wind of the bakery once I was in town." He said. "No, I just...needed to get away for a while. I've been drifting from place to place recently." He shrugged. It was true enough.
He easily kept pace with Gwylan, mentally mapping the route so he could find it again if he did come back. "Oh, I'd be willing to adventure a bit. We don't usually have much in the way of sweets back home, so I'd be up for trying whatever you can suggest?"

Studying the other male, his head tilted as they walk, Gwylan ponders his words for a long moment, then nods. "I can understand the desire to get away for a time. As much as I want to go with that dream I... babbled about... I also kind of want to go places. Maybe study under some candy makers, learn some new techniques... Get hands on. And I could spread the word, too, on Mom's shop... But I don't know." He sighed a little. "I've never been outside of our home town. I don't know..."
He then grinned, not the bright smile of before but an eager smile. "Well then! I do believe I can help you pick out an interesting selection to see what sorts of sweets you'd prefer for the future."

Aloysius nodded, listening to Gwylan speak in silence. The desire to get away in order to learn? Well, that was sort of what he was doing, wasn't it? Learning whether he could contain his demonic impulses and...well, be better than he was told he could be? But explaining that would reveal far, far too much, so he didn't speak, merely nodding along to show he was listening. His expression briefly shifted to pensive.
However, Gwylan's eager smile brought one back to his face. "I'd like that. I'm sure you're quite an expert!" He let out a bit of a laugh.

Gwylan tilted his head, a slight frown sliding onto his face at the pensive expression on Aloysius's. Did he say something wrong? He wasn't sure, and he didn't want to upset his new met companion. "Hey... is something matter? If I said something offensive, I'm terribly sorry..." He looked concerned.
At the smile, he relaxed again some and nodded. "I would hope I am... Mom would probably be ashamed of me if I wasn't by now!" He laughed himself, smiling to the other.

Aloysius shook his head firmly. "No, it's nothing you said. Just thinking of my own reasons for wanting to get away." He said. "It's...a bit complicated." To put it mildly, but any more and he really risked letting slip too much.
"Heh, well, then I'll leave this in your obviously capable hands," he said. He was sure he had enough to cover however much the total would be, and Mother wouldn't even miss it. He was definitely curious as to what sorts of treats there would be inside. He had sampled a few kinds of baked goods on other trips, but mostly very basic things-plain sugar cookies, a vanilla-frosted yellow cake slice once.

Gwylan nibbled his lip, thoughtfully, then smiled at the other. "Well I can understand that... I'd offer to listen if it'd help but I'm pretty sure we don't know each other well enough for that." He smiled at Aloysius, trying to make a light joke of it.
"Sounds good... and AH here we are!" He opened the door to the shop, and led him in, his gaze sweeping over the selection of what Mom currently had out, pondering what to get for his new friend.

Aloysius shrugged. "I wouldn't mind getting to know each other better, but...yes, for now, I would prefer not to speak of it." He said. His tail twitched a little under his cloak, nervously.
However, once they were inside, all he had to do was inhale and his worries were (mostly) put aside. He had realized upon his first taste of a baked treat that he had something of a sweet tooth, and there was just so much here. "It smells...wonderful," Aloysius said, unaware of the almost childlike glee on his face.
