After I first got him:

The second day:

I swear he seems like he's getting more and more vivid as the days go on. Tomorrow I'm going to move him from the gallon bowl into the 5 gallon tank. Just gotta finish setting it up.

I love his personality. smile I enter the room and he gets so excited and swims to the front and dances for me. He even looks at me while I'm talking to him (yes, I'm silly and talk to my fish).

Any suggestions on fish toys? I get the impression he'd like having something to play with. He's got a leaf in there that he likes to hide under.. probably will get him a proper hide..

He's beautiful! He looks like he perked up a lot just after the second day! I'd bet he'll love the 5 gallon tank! And don't worry, you're not the only one who talks to your fish. I talk to my betta, Gyarados, a lot too. And he swims up to the front of the tank and dances and for me too as well as looks at me when I'm talking to him. XD I also talk to my snake and red eared slider turtle. biggrin

As for fish toys, I'm not sure. I would like some ideas too as I'm sure Gyarados would love some more activities to do. I have one of those bubble wall stones in my tank and Gyarados seems to love attacking the bubbles as they come out. It's amusing to watch. XD

hes gorgeous, They do get more colorful when moved from a cup to a tank, Jonah went from practically see through to now hes dark red, I heard somewhere that bettas like ping pong balls as toys, but IDK for sure, you could raise him some mosquito larvae, for mental stimulation, and a treat, just have to know what a nest looks like, you dont want to catch them wild.

Ooooh, handsome boy! I'm sure he'll love his 5 gal. setup.

Hmmm. Betta toys. Heheh. I gave my one girl Betta some of those round marble-like glass balls you can purchase for aquariums. Mine were just generic blue ones from a local pet store. They reflect their surroundings really well and alter their colors as you move them, so my girl stopped a couple times a day and used them like gazing globes. Cowgirl's right that you can use things like ping-pong balls, too, although I would only recommend those for a few minutes at a time. I trained one of mine to push them, but I was personally afraid the ping-pong was a little heavy and didn't want to leave it in too much....

You can also consider getting your guy a bridge or cave ornament. Mine all loved having some sort of spot to hide under or in, and they liked having a line of plants to rest behind, too.
