They were everywhere, like square red stains against the school walls. You could hardly go anywhere without seeing them- they'd invaded every dormitory hall, graced most of the classroom doors, and even in some cases had been taped to the ceiling. Someone had been a bit overzealous in places - the entire ladies' bathroom window was completely blocked up with them. It was like a plague of locusts; only in place of flying insects were seemingly innocuous flyers.
Beneath each mass of flyers was a small box with a slot in the lid. It's outside had a photo of a turntable booth, with the cut-out heads of two students pasted on the figures manning it. It could be safely assumed that this was for song suggestions of some kind, although this was never clearly stated, so some of them had built up an impressive ABC gum repository. Cady could be heard from miles away now, happily and openmouthedly chewing away.
What was one person's trash, was another person's treasure.
