Troll Dice Battle Mechanics
Rolling a 5: ALL PLAYERS AT ANY POINT CAN FORFEIT THEIR ATTACK TO ROLL 2d12. If you roll odd, you do this damage to your opponent. If you roll even, you do this damage to YOURSELF - no modifier, you can ONLY DO THIS ONCE. You feel an uneasy unsettling feeling, as if something is coming, but you can't place what or when.

Kiwi approached the Haunted House, pausing outside the doors. Somehow, on the return trip he'd lost sight of Soren through the fog. He only hoped the stout Horseman would appear soon, and that Nergui too was safe with him, Tseng and Lan as well on their way.

Alone however, it felt odd simply standing there. The fog cast an eerie presence across the ramshackle building behind him, and shapes seemed to form and vanish in the distance. Kiwi wanted to draw his weapon already, but some sense told him now was not quite the time. Tersely, he forced himself to wait, fingers a hairsbreadth from summoning his sickle as he stared into the fog.

[OOC: Quoting so everyone finds the new thread! :> And awkwardly lost Kiwi go! because that's the only way this would make sense /he left after Soren QQ/]

"Aah, and here we are again. A slightly altered purpose but one just as important!"

After all, their mission had changed from 'destroy all sources of insanity' to 'save them' more or less. Whatever the specifics were, he was more than willing to do his part in this grand quest. It seemed doubly important, given Medea's condition. He had never seen her in such a state before.

Tseng called forth his bow, wanting to keep it at hand just in case.

"Shall we try to enter the house once more?"

It was a relief to see the two soldiers in fog, or perhaps merely a sign. Or maybe it was just Tseng's voice. Either way Soren soon emerged from the fog to where they were, looking up at the house. There was the comfortable weight of the vial in his pocket, a chance at...something. At the worst not coming to pass.

He noted Tseng's bow, but he did not summon his weapon. He relied on his own strength as often as not, or the gauntlet he wore. "The house," a simple statement, voicing his agreement. This all had to be happening for a reason, and if the fog surrounded the building, it was logical to assume that this would be the place to go to seek answers. Or their doom, but hopefully answers. And if their party was large and full of horsemen...well, it seemed to be a safe group because of it.

The priestess kept close to Soren, playing the part of his dark shadow when not just holding onto his arm as they made their way through the fog. The others had wandered a bit ahead, and that alone had set the dark skinned mare a bit on edge, but every time their voices floated back to her it helped calm frazzled nerves.

Admittedly, the weight of the vial in her hand helped. There was a way to fight the very thing that had been terrifying her sense the moment that creature had emerged from the fog, but she was still weary. Fear this deep wasn't something one could just leave behind, but she was notable less twitchy since they'd left the high priestess and her pyre.

All the same, mismatched eyes remained wide, and every so often she jerked her head to the side, searching the fog for voices only she could hear.

"The house would be safer," she agreed, though her voice held a noticeable amount of irony. A flicker of humor crossed her dark features, but in the fog it was unlikely anyone would notice.

Kiwi was relieved to see the faces appear through the crowd. He relaxed his hands a bit, smiling to everyone that had gathered. Lan wasn't with them. He only hoped she was alright.

Nonetheless, this battle was about their enemy. And something told Kiwi their enemy waited within the Haunted House itself. He nodded to his comrades. "Alright. But surround the priestess and defend her." He paused a moment to pass a kind smile to Nergui. "I mean this in no offense Nergui, but at the moment, you are the easiest target among us."

And with that, Kiwi turned and pressed lightly on the doors, leading them to the fog inside.

[OOC: Vamps said Lan isn't coming D: I've edited the thread title.]

"A sound plan, Kiwi! But at least we have a cure should things go awry," Tseng commended as he went to take his place around Nergui. She might not like this so much, but the famine clan member had a rather valid point. Once he had taken his spot, he began to move with the others into the house. Quite frankly, he didn't feel much different inside. But, there were a few less places where an enemy could come from. So there was that in the very least.

There was something soft that sounded out as soon as the group entered; a scraping noise like fur against concrete and wood. Shapes and shadows flashed in and out of the fog; a form slowly forming in the darkness as it prowled the edges, smelling prey, scenting intruders in its home. There was a slow, thick growl as the footsteps got louder and louder - why were they here? Why wouldn't they leave?

The seconds seemed to slow, and the tension in the air thickened even as silence reigned. It almost seemed as though whatever had been prowling the shadows had gone -

There was a flash of white, of grey, of gold, and then the wolf was on them. The thick fog curled away from its body as it lunged, blind to who it was targeting, only knowing them as intrudersfoodpreypreyprey. A thick hunger spread within its belly, a hunger to rip, tear, protect. The fur along its back bristled, tail erect as its lips pulled back over sharp fangs.

This was the wolf's home, and they were not welcome here.

Entering the house meant walking into more fog, leading him to believe that they were in the right place...if they were looking for trouble. But that was the general idea. To cure those infected, destroy those that could not be saved.

Protecting the priestess made the most sense, and he made sure to position himself in a position that he could defend her if necessary, or at least, be an easier target. The sound that he heard, the form emerging from the fog, seemed to like this bait. The creature emerged quickly snapping down on an upraised arm, the beast with golden eyes, the mixture of gold eyes and light-colored wolf fur oddly unnerving. But not enough to link it all together.

His Fear surged up, attempting to spread out to form a protective barrier over the Priestess. But the fog had his sense off, and too long without exercising his Fear in this manner...it would not hold his form.

Talk about performance issues.

It certainly did not take long before they were attacked by one of the creatures. While Soren went to try and protect the Priestess, Tseng went on the offensive.

"FOR GREAT JUSTICE!" he shouted before firing an arrow at the foggy canine's face. They still had the cure, but it would be hard applying it while this beast was still going strong. Perhaps they could fend it off and weaken it some before seeing who this used to be.

He still had his own fear to use as well. But that could wait if needed.

Kiwi's kind smile took the priestess off guard and she started back at him curiously as he took a place near her, followed closely by Tseng. Under normal circumstances she likely wouldn't have appreciated the over protective nature of clansmen she wasn't terribly familiar with, but here and now she wasn't about to shoo them away from her. As they entered the house it was down right comforting. She had already known Soren would do what he could to keep her safe, he was a guardian, she was a priestess, and beyond that they were friends. The other two barely knew her, she was going to remember their loyalty and willingness to help.

She didn't voice any of this though, now really want the time.instead she reached forward to rest a hand on Soren's back as the fog began to thicken one they'd entered the house.the air felt thick, and Nergui shivered, suddenly tense. Something was coming. She couldn't say what, but whatever it was wasn't happy they were there.

As the best formed the mare came to a stop between her the guards, a soft sound escaping dark, posted lips before she could stop it. It was a wolf, with glowing yellow eyes, but that was as much as she could gather before the thing lunged at Soren and sank white fangs into a strong arm as the guardian moved to perfect her, although his shield failed. "Soren!"

Having never bound herself to as guardian before, the dark priestess still wasn't used to the idea of another horseman laying it all out to keep her safe. It was a foreign concept, her life being elevated above another. Finally she should have stayed back and let the men fight. Rationally.

It was automatic really. In the second it took Soren to fall the black blade of Nergui's scimatar materialized in her hand, and she charged forward at the wolf.

Soren might have been her protector, but he was also her friend. The only one among the remaining clans she truly gave a damn about, and this creature had hurt him. As the hazy fur along the creature's back stood at attention, the priestess swung, the ink dark metal of her blade slicing through the gray body of the wolf.

The moment Kiwi had entered the room, a sudden great maw had emerged from the darkness, snapping teeth as him as it's sharp, icy claws bore down on his small frame. He hadn't expected the enemy quite so near, and disoriented from the impact, fell back against the wall as Soren rushed forward.

He was just now managing to shake it off, groaning a bit as he summoned his sickle and chain to his side. A glare bore down on the beast as the chain shot out. Still weakened from the attack however, the blade whistled through air as it circled back around to him.

Most of the intruders attacks were little more than scratches and grazing marks - and if they were, there was little that registered in the wolf's mind. It was all burned away beneath the hate and anger, the need to hunt, protect, kill. Home was the only thing important anymore. Its maw wrenched open, seizing at the Priestess's figure with wild, grasping teeth. How dare they trespass like this.

In a single moment it was all bristling fur and flashing claws; there was no distinction of who was who, no interest in differentiation so long as they all left.

"Homehomehome."

It snapped its teeth again and again, tail swishing in aggravation.

Leave.

The fact that his Fear had failed, that he had failed, was something that Soren was struggling to deal with. Nergui had proven that she could fight back, a powerful attack that almost startled him with its ferocity, but really, she was a Priestess, it could only be expected.

But despite that, despite the others fighting, the wolf had attacked, had bitten not only the Priestess he was trying to protect but also Kiwi, and Soren was not dealing with his failure easily. He was torn though. On the one hand, he could attempt to just block damage to the priestess, maybe protecting her, maybe failing. Prolonging the fight. Or he could attack, hope to end it faster, hope to wear down the creature until they could try to save it.

He summoned his khopesh and raised his arm, ready to attack when...it spoke. It merely repeated one word, but there was something oddly familiar about it. Wolf. Golden eyes. Insanity. He faltered, staring at the creature as it bled into fog. "Senga?" Confusion. But the colt...the colt was supposed to come to him if it started to get bad. He had told him he would try to help, just to wear off energy. He could take a hit...

Then again, maybe it was someone else entirely.

The thing to know about impressive hits is that, if you don't defeat your target in that hit, you've really only managed to piss it off.

Fangs closed around Nergui's upper arm, and she let out a startled, pain filled cry as she slashed at the thing madly to get it to release her. It did, and she scrambled away from it, closer to Soren, but froze as he whispered a name. "What.. ?!" This was Senga? Startled, Nergui turned, wide eyes landing upon the great foggy beast and lingering on the golden tint of it's eyes.

Golden eyes, a wolf, and Insanity. Yes, this was Senga. The priestess wasn't exceptionally close to the colt, but she knew him. They shared the same infect, went to the same meetings with Medea. Their paths had crossed many times before, and now..? It was her worst fears confirmed. The infected amongst them were being consumed, changed and tainted into these beasts, and then turning around and mindlessly attacking their allies.

Panic began to well up within the priestess anew, and she squeezed the hilt of her dark blade, grinding the woven handle into her palm. She was not going to fall apart here, she was NOT.

The priestess managed to land quite the impressive blow! Grinning at her, Tseng rushed back towards the ashen wolf. Once he came in close, he leaped high into the air while aiming down towards the back of its head with an arrow.

"LIGHTNING STRIKE!" he shouted before letting it fly. The arrow was not electrified by any means, but he tagged that name onto it anyway. Once he landed, he paused, looking towards Soren as he realized the guardian had said something.

"You know this one, Soren?" he asked.
