Joachim started to ignore the pleas of Merel as she squeaked loud enough to be match the sound of the floor boards that shifted under his feet. Even the small trail of white mice behind him started to cling as close as possible not wanting to lose sight of their master. True that all he had to do was play a single note and they could find him but there was something about the place.

Something was not right.

Maybe it was not a good idea for him to go alone.

Enzo had, against all better judgement, run ahead of Bea and Ace and into the fog, microphone out at the ready. He could hear it, he could hear something in the background, but the needles on his equipment weren't responding the way he had hoped. Ridiculous. RIDICULOUS! Useless piece of-

Something was up ahead. The boss wheeled into his leg with a low-thrum as he stopped short and debated his options.

Option A: Investigate, and maybe record something sellable, or
Option B: Run like hell and find a dank hole to wait it out in.

Against the monstrous Upright Bass's frantic warning, he straightened, balled his fists, pulled down his hat, and stormed forth. If it was a fog-creature- (he was sure he could hear screaming, that was definitely being picked up in his headphone) well, then, he'd just have to get up close and personal-like. If it was a friend- well, there was strength in numbers.

The shock of red hair through the mist sent a wave of relief. "JOE! Oh, am I glad'tsee you, fella!" The rats that made up his entourage also looked on edge, their oily furr on end as they scurried about his ankles, chittering threatening to the few white dots of clean white mice.

First he heard the deep sound of strings vibrating through the air.Then smell, the smell came as the squeaking of the appearance of the little ebony colored rats followed by the familiar figure of the large bass and Enzo. He certainly hadn’t changed since the last time they had met, he still seemed rather dirty with a rather unwanted group of followers crawling around from every inch of his skin.

Really, really? His luck was just good enough that it wasn't an enemy that he was going to face, but not good enough for him to actually find someone that he liked Joachim thought as his eyebrows started to knot in annoyance. Instead he was at the moment left to the mercy of things he least liked in the world, he thought as a shiver crawled up his spine, a bloody nose from a cute girl would have been better.

Maybe it wouldn't be too bad as long at the roaches stayed more on his end. The rats he could... somewhat deal with as long as they remained on the ground around his feet.

"Hello Enzo, fancy meeting you here. I hope things have been... treating you well despite the conditions of meeting." Joachim replied as he started to wrap his fingers around his flute.

"Been hit by an unfortunate case of lunacy." The shorter Reaper grinned anxiously. "What brings you outta' your hole, then, prettyboy?" The whole place had him on edge, and that WHISPERING it was killing him- was it in their heads? Were they both hearing it? His nerves were on end, and the damn rats would shut up and the roach infestation were huddling.... never a good sign.

Maybe this had been a bad idea. "But I think I'm comin' to my senses. How about we both blow this join, eh? There aint nothin' to find."

The problem was... which way had he come from again? The damn fog had him all topsy-turvy.

From the midst of the fog there came footsteps, and then a tall figure emerged from the thick haze of grey and white, dual colored eyes glowing brightly in the darkness.

"Give it back."

Was it just him or was Enzo actually a little nervous? In fact even Merel who had been squeaking up to this point seemed rather quite than usual. Most of the white mice had made their way into his pockets huddling as if they were trying to hide something.

This was bad.

“I have to agree I think it’s time to get out of here…… did you come from that way?” Joachim replied pointing towards the left but then again he wasn’t sure.

The whispers wouldn’t stop as his brows knotted even more, it was putting him in a rather foul mood, a mood that wasn’t there before.

Then it appeared, the ghastly figure in the fog with eyes glowing its voice whispering louder than the others.

Jackdamnit.

Enzo flinched as the fog suddenly solidified into a figure. His fists balled, "Now we're talkin'. Home, huh?" He shoved the microphone out as The Boss suddenly started playing- a nervous bass beat that sent his rats scurrying toward the figure... but things were murky, the whispering amplifying as one suddenly sunk it's teeth into his ankle. "Ah- HEY! Stupid-" He kicked the damn thing straight at the apparition.

The rat, meanwhile, was very displeased about the whole situation overall, giving a shrill cry as it tumbled.

As the ringing tune of the bass ringed in his ears Joachim pulled his flute out pressing it to his lips and taking in a deep breath of air.

The notes were shaky, as if the reaper was nervous in some sort of way but the mice still scattered from his pockets and from around his feet following their masters command.

Merel on the other hand sharply bit his ear as she dug her claws into his cheek refusing to go towards the dark figure.

The figure was clearly unperturbed by the attacks from the two who stood before him, lifting his chin imperiously, then tilting his head to the side as though surveying them. One clawed hand reached out through the fog towards them, then lifted to attack.

"Give me back what is owed to me.

"Give me back my home!"

"I don't know noffin' about your transient situation," Enzo groaned as he gathered himself up. The fog packed quite the punch that had sent him tumbling back over his own bass in a spray of cockroaches.

He straightened his suit, his hat, and gave Boss a proper strum. "So you wanna' play it like that, eh, wiseguy? C'mon, Joe, show 'em how real swingers do it-" His fingers flew, the thick deep beat of the instrument filling the air. His rats glanced from him to Joachim, to the fog and back again, unsure of which instinct to follow. Ultimately, a few ran into the fog to n** and claw, but some grew anxious, the fog confusing their simple little minds far worse than their commander. He grit his teeth, ignoring their misplaced bites.

Before he could even react to his ear being bitten the shadow figure struck him sending him and Merel sprawling into the ground. It hurt like hell but something kept driving him on, the whispers edging him as the pain started to fade away mentally.

He got on his knees not even bothering to stand up as he started to play a series of notes on his flute. The mice starting to gather again and running towards the figure they kept mentioning something about home.

But then a cockroach ran across his fingers causing a rather girlish scream to escape from his lungs.

The rats were looked at with blank eyes, the figure tilting his head as though to scrutinize them. With a kick he sent them flying away from his grey and white robes, distorted by the fog and the Insanity that twisted and curled throughout the room. His hand lifted again, claws outstretched, eyes flashing blue and gold.

"Give it back!"

Enzo ducked as the claws swung past, but unfortunately, it was more difficult for his familiar. The sharp claws snagged string and with a painful, yelping twang, one of the thick wires was snapped, the bass clattering backward on top of the little reaper in a discord of pain.

The boy himself gave a yelp and a groan toward his fellow pied-reaper, "Keep playing! Stupiduselessrats-"

The sound of the bass toppling on top of Enzo ringed in his ears sinking into the deep whispers of the fog. The hand outstretched hand caught his jacket ripping into his flesh, as Merel yelped in pain.

He couldn't feel it, well he could but it something in his mind stopped the pain from affecting the need to play, no it was more of a desire he had to play.

Joachim stretched to reach the flute that had scattered across the floor when it fell out of his hand by the attack trying to avoid the roach crawling near him.

Wrapping his hand around it he took what grasp of air he could and played as loud as he could.

Mengyao turned slowly, the fog drifting off of him like clouds of white haze, and flexed long fingers before his gaze settled on the two in front of him once more. Their music clanged throughout the corridor, reverberating off of the walls and echoing through the house like an eerie symphony.

He lifted his clawed hand again.

"I want my home back."
