White.

Or perhaps grey. The ceiling creaked, light footsteps pattering. The chandelier, rusted, groaned and swayed, once, twice, and then oddly moving without making a sound at all. The chairs flickered, faded, replaced with larger chairs and then nothing at all, as the floorboards themselves seemed to peel and reassemble themselves repeatedly.

But beyond the chaotic rearrangement of this room were the voices whispering to each person. Beckoning them somewhere Home. Home, where their loved ones were, where they could finally feel at peace, where they could resolve the strange itching, cold agitation curling in their insides and where they could finally be....

Free?

Foggy white hands began to pull away from the floor, tugging at each student, claws and arms, fingers and feathers, scales, wings-

Yet something went wrong.

Instead of a voice beckoning them to come home, the second they touched the Fear of several in the group, the second their cores wrapped around them they withdrew, just as quickly, a hissing anger, welting as it retreated.

The fog suddenly thinned, gathering together, stacking on each other layer by layer until -

They curled low, surging forward, fog-formed mandibles clacking even as a voice continued to echo over and over from within the room.

Go home.

The sensation didn't completely leave as he continued through the door. In fact, it seemed to grow stronger. Home. Yes, he needed to go home. With Mitsu. Away from this wretched place. Somewhere where they could be safe. At peace. Shun almost didn't see the limbs coming out of the fog to grasp at him, tugging him forth. But he soon snapped out of it as the fog recoiled all of the sudden.

Wait. What just...

Rather than offering a way out. A way home, the fog formed into a creature ahead of him. Cursing lowly, he summoned his daggers, but didn't strike just yet. He wasn't in much of a condition to be fighting right now.

Home.

Gene had heard enough of the word. She still knew where home was, and it was not filled with creepy fog and insanity stricken friends. Home was not going to be found in this place. Home was in the other direction.

Yet she kept forward, pulled by foggy hands and a drive to recklessly wreak havoc on whatever was desecrating her home. He arms were a shiny reflective metal, steel fists balled up and ready to swing.

And she got her opportunity, when the fog became a pair of beasts.

She lunged at the creatures, only to be smacked into the floor.

The walk through the house was unnerving. The way the room shifted and changed before her eyes had her more on edge that ever before. There was no peace of mind to be had in this place only the drowning pull of insanity as it seemed to claw up from the floor boards to pull and tug at them.

Mitsu darted back striking at anything that was near finding herself in the company of others like them who were lost in the fog. Or were they? Perhaps this was just a guise. Maybe they were one with the insanity as well, it was so hard to tell in this place. Nothing made sense.

Panicked eyes stared at Shun her head shaking like she could take no more. No, no she wanted to go home. She didn't want to stay here any longer.

Shun watched as the ghost whose name he didn't know, as well as Mitsu went in for the attack. The creature was pretty formidable from the way it retaliated. He wasn't sure how much he could take right now, and so he decided to bide his time.

"Mitsu, hang in there. Stay strong. I know you can do it," he urged as he started to move around to try and see if he could find some opening on the insanity creature.

In the back of his head, he heard something whispering to him, telling how futile this all was. They wouldn't get out of here alive. He'd fail his lycan yet again.

Gritting his teeth, he looked around, trying to pinpoint the voice that had said that.

"Did someone hear that?"

Mitsu focused on Shun when he uttered his words of encouragement but the moment she looked away seemed to be what the creature what had been waiting for. The twin centipede like creatures lashed forward to attack pincers snapping at her arms. They were so fast it was impossible to avoid contact and Mitsu let out a yelp throwing her hands out to blindly slash and push the creatures back.

She barely heard Shun's question, those panicked eyes locked back on the creature who slithered back and away from her into its original position. There was a cold numbing sensation in her hands, her fingers feeling odd as she flexed them. She dared a brief glance to see if they were damaged and ended up doing a double take as she found the tips of her fingers slowly turning gray. It spread through her hands like blotches of monotone ink consuming flesh up toward her elbows. The lycan could only stare in horror, frightened crimson eyes looking up toward Shun not knowing what to do.

It wasn't long after that the voices started in the distance. Something soft and subtle that could have easily been mistaken for the wind hitting the haunted house making it groan and creak from the strain. They grew closer though, whispers of home and threats, washing over Mitsu in a wave. She closed her eyes briefly covering her ears hoping to drown them out but that only seemed to give them more focus as she blocked out outside noise.

After he had asked his question, the voices still persisted. It was rather distracting. Glancing over at Mitsu, it looked as though she was hearing something as well. Shaking his head, he did what he could to ignore the things being said while he slowly made his way over towards the lycan. It was then that Shun was able to see the grey that had started to cover her body.

His eye widened at the sight of that. Riley and Jericho had similar things upon their body. It was a sign of insanity. But... how? She hadn't been consumed by the fog when dissipating earlier! Did... Had he caused it somehow? The voices all around were calling him out on in. Instead of protecting her, he had managed to doom her.

But wait! The horsemen. They had a cure! He just needed to find one who had another of those vials. The whispers around seemed to think otherwise, saying it was too late to help her. That nothing would be able to be done. The Reaper would be forced to simply watch.

"Mitsu..? What's... what's going on?"

He looked towards the others in the room. Was this happening to them too?

The door was open, calling both figuratively and literally to him, and Thackery couldn't deny the opportunity to continue searching for Ash. If he was in here, the only way to find him would be to go inside, right?

As they moved inside, he watched Shun, relieved to see that the boil had at least found Mitsu. He opted to not speak. Ash had done exactly what Shun thought he would do, and he feared the potential 'told you so'. He didn't want to think about that any more than he had to right now.

And, as per usual, something interjected to provide an unwanted distraction. There were things pulling at him, almost desperate, and he fought to kick them off, pleading under his breath for them to just let him go so he could keep looking. But no matter how hard he stomped at them or growled or tried to intimidate them away, they did not relent.

Go home? His ears flattened against his head. "No," he murmured, insulted by the whispers. "I'm not leaving without him."

It was only a quick shift to his natural form and a leap to reach the fog creature, his teeth clicking together as he tried to sink them into the intangible wisps of fog. He kept trying, snapping at what might have been the 'body' of the greyed insect, hoping that he was doing some good.

Struggling through a feeling of defeat and hopelessness and whispers that wouldn't stop, he finally addressed the others.

"Do you think it'll help? If...if we kill this, I mean?"

Looking back to her hands Mitsu shook her head completely and utterly confused. She didn't know what was happening! There was terror written on her features, fear gripping her heart like a vice. It felt like an erratic bird in a cage struggling to get free.

Like the stress of the situation wasn't enough the threat of the creatures still loomed in front of them and Mitsu could only regard Thackery with a lost and frightened stare. Would it help? There was a pang of doubt at the thought, the whispers growing louder to only feed that insecurity. They were going to fail here. Fail and never see home again. Home...yes that was where she wanted to go. Home.

The voices said, no, it would help. They would all fall here. They would never get to go home. But... he wanted to go home right now. Gritting his teeth, Shun hissed sharply as he tried to push the voices back. It really didn't do him any good.

"We might get a moment's peace if anything," he muttered in return to Thackery. Speaking of the other canine, he was without Ash, "Seek out the horsemen if you can. They have a cure it seems."

It's pointless... the voices snipped.

Shaking his head again, he turned towards Mitsu as he made his way towards her. He wrapped his arms around her for the moment, trying to get her to calm down. As he did this, he eyed the fog creature carefully. With two of them there, it was not going to be easy finding an opening. But he had to bide his time if he wanted to make his strike count.

Gene could only grit her teeth as she observed some of the drama unfurling. She had no clue who these people were, or why they were starting to break down and have pity parties. Battle was not a time for that; battle was a time to channel your negativity and put the smack down on things that opposed you.

You should be proud, Rage-sama.

"Of course it'll help if we take this jacking thing down. More fog killed equals less fog, and less fog means less Insanity. Simple math." She grumbled through gritted teeth, morphing her hands into dragon claws. "So let's kill this thing, and then you can have a mental breakdown."

The fine line between sassy and rude was stepped over at that point. She lashed out at the beast, getting some kind of damage in, before being whacked by the other's massive tail.

Simple math? Perhaps so in the eyes of the hopeful or the resilient but the reality was it was spreading like an infectious disease. It was abundantly clear on Mitsu as the gray continued up her person covering skin as it crawled its way up toward her face. Despite the promise of a cure Mitsu felt it was hopeless, the voices kept telling her so, feeding her doubt.

Before she knew it the insanity creature had come for her again claws and pincers snapping at limbs before it moved on to its next target. Mitsu couldn't even react in time to retaliate, falling back as soon as the creature moved away. She was too consumed with the fact that the insanity was spreading, the call of home was growing stronger.

She hadn't even hit the bottom, hadn't even dissipated and the insanity took over. It spread up her face her eyes changing from crimson to a bright blue. Mitsu's body gave a shudder before she finally grew still. In the blink of an eye her body fell apart into the mist being consumed by the fog before it gathered again and reformed into something different.

As her form pulled away from the fog large paws were the first thing that became visible before the large wolfish head emerged. The fog swirled around and began to concentrate on reestablishing her form leaving the small group in the midst of another insanity creature.

Her eyes moved from one student to the next with a lack of recognition. The only thing she knew was that they were intruders. She wanted to go home and they were in her way. Who they were didn't matter.

Shun looked towards the ghost girl with his eye narrowing. Breakdown? He was not having a breakdown. Didn't she hear the voices? Suddenly, he was having a bit of suspicion regarding her. Though, he didn't have much time to dwell on that as the lycan he stood by continued to change. It didn't take long before she completely converted too.

The Reaper was confused. Why did this happen? She didn't even dissipate!

You failed her yet again.

"No..."

He was stunned. In the very least, he managed to take a step back. Looking between Mitsu and the bugs, things did not look like they were going to end very well for the rest of them. Where were the horsemen when they needed one? With a grimace, he raised his daggers reluctantly. He had been in that state. He knew she was going to attack without any sort of discrimination. He also knew that taking her down wouldn't kill her for good.

"I hope you'll forgive me for this.."

She never will.

Before moving in for the attack, he came to a halt while he noticed grey patches at the back of his hand. It was rapidly growing over him as well. What? Why was he... He was supposed to have been cured! No. He had to fight it. Gritting his teeth, he just tried to go in for the attack.

This thing looked decidedly different from the students afflicted with insanity, somehow, so if they thought it might help...Thackery would do his best to them past it. He moved to attack it once more, pausing in his tracks at the words that followed. His ears were trained on Shun, as if he were waiting to hear a 'just kidding!' behind it. When that didn't come, he pawed anxiously at the grainy floor.

"A cure? And it works?" It seemed too good to be true. Maybe he should have told someone about Ash before it was too late. If the horsemen had a cure...what if he could have prevented this somehow? He probably could have, and he'd been too busy sitting around and moping and being generally ineffective and now look how that turned out.

He shook himself free of his thoughts in time to see Mitsu changing through the fog. It seemed so innocent at first, just some sort of shift in her natural form, but everything felt a little wrong. The creature's tendrils skittered soundlessly towards him, carrying whispers, and he smacked it away, startled and confused.

"Wh--" Shun was attacking her? He sunk backward, cowering, worried. Why?

You're awful at this.

Shut up.

Give up now.

Never.

Gene paid the feelings and reactions of the others no mind. She only knew that one of them had turned, and that needed to be dealt with immediately. She ignored the bugs, and opted for the wolf, attempting a tackle, but overshooting herself and landing on the floor.

"Idiot." She said to herself, glaring into empty space.
