Lucian sat in his family's garden enjoying some tea while a servant read to him for his "enjoyment". It was a pretty, peaceful scene stretched out before him, but even without the blindfold covering his eyes he wouldn't be able to see it. As he began to tune out his servant's words he recalled his fate, as he often did. It was better than being treated like a child like this. He had been a young boy when he feel gravely ill and even the family's personal doctor was at a loss. Desperate, his father sent messengers across the land, promising a reward to anyone that could cure his son's life. The one to appear first was a sorceress. She could cure him, but warned them all that magic came with a price. Lucian could still recall being scared about that detail but his father agreed for him. Now here was perfectly healthy (he hadn't been sick a day in his life since) but blind as a bat. Apparently that was enough reason for his parents to keep him from leaving. "There are blind beggars wandering the streets this very moment who would do just as well as I outside these walls..." he muttered to himself as he took a sip of his tea.
"Did you say something, Master Lucian?" the servant asked as he looked up from an old copy of The Canterbury Tales, the young man's fourth time reading it.
"It's nothing. I'm going for a walk if you don't mind." he said as he began to stand. The servant was quick to put down the book and replace it with an elegant ivory cane that had been resting against the table, which he handed to his master. Lucian just sighed, groping for the cane for a bit before heading deeper into the garden. Maybe he couldn't see the flowers' beauty, but he had learned to identify each and every one through smell. Just one of many talents he'd learned behind his parents' backs.

{If this is stupid I'll edit.}
Scarlet, on the other hand, just snuck her way back into Lucian's garden after yet another successful 'adventure'. She'd often roam the forests nearby, gathering herbs and sometimes fighting and/or bartering with the lesser monsters she came by. Those she killed, naturally, were cooked and eaten in a delicious meaty pie or stew the very evening they were slain. (Unlike Lucian, Scarlet's family wasn't quite so wealthy that she could afford to be picky about her food. To make matters worse, the scrawny little woman was quite the big eater.) Those she didn't gun down, assuming they were interested in her wares, would be sold various herbs and other alchemical ingredients she happened to come across. It was a decent living, but I get the feeling I'm getting off track.
Anyway, Scarlet just snuck her way back into Lucian's family's garden, hoping to encounter the blind noble and let him live vicariously through her latest 'adventure'. She'd come by often to tell him about her day, or just the world in general, thinking that maybe her stories helped relieve the boredom and wanderlust that plagued him just a little bit. Sometimes she doubted it helped, considering how bitter he was towards his family and serving staff in general, but that didn't seem to stop her any.

"Mischevious isn't even the half of it. The worst of them, as is true of all demon-tainted folk, can do horrible and unspeakable things." There was a pause after she spoke, if only for dramatic effect. "This one was just an idiot." Afterwards she went on to detail how she kept encountering this one imp, a feisty little bugger that would steal food from her pantry or run by and flip her skirt. All in all, he was irritating but nothing too bad. One day, though, as she was walking through the woods he and a bunch of his friends tried to ambush her. Demons often kidnapped youthful folk, especially virgin maidens or children for some reason, to take back to their firey homeworld. Not willing to find out what exactly they had planned for her, she fought back. The imps were surprisingly fierce opponents, often aiming for her vitals. As he could tell, it's obvious who won. And it was obvious what Scarlet would be having for dinner.
