It had been only a day or two after the Tear in the sky vanished, but life went on... And for some students, it meant that it was time for them to take their examination, one more step towards becoming a responsible adult.

Note sent to room
Advancement Exam

Venue: School gate
Time: Frightday Midnight

Please be punctual; latecomers will not be allowed to participate.

[OOC: If you did not post at least once within 48 hours from the time of summon, I have the right to remove you from this exam and put you in a solo exam/pass you over to someone else to keep things moving. Don't worry, it's not a permanent DQ from all exams, just this one!

PS. The "time" stated there is just flavor text!]

Although it was midnight, the streets and pathways in the school were well-lit as it was not uncommon for students who do not require sleep to wander around at night. The school gate was no exception, with glowing carved pumpkins on each side.

Any students who decided to arrive early would find that there was nobody waiting for them at the school gate. However, at midnight sharp, an open carriage pulled up at the gate, and a grouchy gnome hopped off the driver's seat. Grumbling under his breath, he proceeded to open the carriage door, glaring at the students who were standing around.

"Come on now! What are you waiting for? You think exams just pass themselves?" He yelled, tapping his foot impatiently as he crossed his arms, "COME ON. I haven't got all day!"

Once the students got in the carriage, he slammed the door shut, got back on the driver's seat, and they were off. Any questions directed at him would earn a "Oh stop your yapping already!" or a "Shut your trap!" or even a "Want me to toss you off the carriage?!"

OOC INSTRUCTIONS

-> For now, just respond to the prompt and get in the carriage so I can take attendance. ouo You can rp among yourselves if you like~

Advancement exam?

Upon getting the note, Marzena had only stared at it in confusion. It had only been a few days since she had returned, along with a white lock engraved with waves tentacles, chained firmly to her belt. Nevertheless, Marzena was not one to defy the orders of a teacher, or to be tardy for an exam.

So she had made her way to the gate a few strokes before midnight, waiting, arms folded across her chest. Once the gnome opened up the carriage door, and talked about an exam, she marched right into it without a word, taking a corner seat.

She was not about to get squashed in the middle of anyone. She was also not one for talking, lips pursed tightly into a straight line, though in all honesty, Marzena could look way grumpier if she wanted to.

He stared at the note with a thoughtful look. Advancement exam, hm? TK supposed it was about time for such an exam. The warning about punctuality caused the boil to arrive just a bit before midnight with hands in his coat pockets. He nodded briefly to the other ghoul waiting before standing a few strides away from her. Calmly, TK watched the carriage pull up at the stroke of midnight and leaned back slightly once he noticed the gnome’s glare, but as soon as he mentioned exams, he followed Marzena into the carriage.

As the door slammed shut and the carriage moved forward, TK leaned forward to try and ask the gnome a question. “Where exactly are we goin—“ “Shut your trap!” Startled, he immediately pressed his back against his seat and pressed his lips into a thin line. Well then; he supposed that was it.

Staring at the note in hand, Clyde let out a sigh.

Okay. Advancement exam. This will be interesting.

It was certainly a surprise to come back to, but teacher’s orders. He better prepare himself for whatever is going to happen at midnight…and he better not be late.

Clyde had lagged behind, arriving right at the stroke of midnight. “Lovely evening eh?” He greeted, but his attention was immediately redirected to the carriage that had just arrived. A little baffled by both its appearance and the gnome which simply glares at all of them, Clyde didn’t do much aside from following everyone else into the carriage. Well…this looks to be a lovely evening. He winced when the door of the carriage slammed shut.

“This is going to just be lovely isn’t it.”

Olivia was one of those students who would often wander on school grounds at night, or at least still be up. So she had sat there for a bit, well after texting a few creeple about her exciting note that was still in her hands after she had received it. Because it was exciting after all, an exam! About advancement, she was curious what they would be doing.

But she was there, sitting and waiting in her usual silent state, staring out as no one came by for some time. There were a few that did though, milling about as she did a few minutes before the designated time; she didn't say anything though since she usually never prompted conversation. And at the stroke of midnight, the course of the evening changed with the arrival of a carriage and a very..... anxious gnome.

Olivia didn't say anything to the gnome, simply looked at him with her usual smile as she pulled herself into the carriage after the other students. They each seemed just as clueless as she did about this, a few of them with a grumpy look on their face. The wight simply gave them each her bright big happy stare. OuO

The carriage did not take them too far; if they turned around, they would still be able to see the light from Amityville in the distance. When they were at their destination, the carriage stopped suddenly and abruptly, and anyone who weren't paying attention might find themselves tumbling off their seats. The carriage door was opened a few seconds later, and the students were greeted by their irritable driver's frown.

"Get off already," He jerked his thumb towards the field they had stopped beside. Once all the students were off the carriage, he drove off, flipping them the bird as he went. Once all the dust cleared, they would see Professor Malcolm in front of them.

"Good-" Should it be evening or night or morning? Why did he think midnight would be a good time to host an exam, anyway? Since he was busy in the daytime, he really should have arranged for them to meet him on the next day... Too late for regrets though, "... Day. Since this is a Snot advancement exam, even if you fail the task, you'll get to advance... But I hope to see you all try your best."

Gesturing for them to follow, he brought them to where there were four tall, wide pillars, about 4 feet from each other, forming the four corners of a square. Upon closer inspection of each pillar, the students would realize that there were several grooves cut into the sides, making it easier for them to scale it. There was also a bow and 3 arrows hung from a nail at the top.

"Your task is to climb to the top, fire the arrows to hit any one target on the pillar to your left, and then climb down with the bow... The view up there is pretty good. I guess you can help each other out," He explained, "No abilities allowed. I'll be watching."

OOC: EXAM MECHANICS

Climbing up the pillar: Roll 1d12
-> The number rolled is the distance climbed without taking a break.
-> Keep rolling until you get a TOTAL of at least 10 [Eg. You rolled 4, and then 5. Your total is now 9/10].
-> You have unlimited rolls.

Firing the arrow: Roll 1d100
--> 1-10: The arrow barely left the bow, falling straight down... Huh, is that Malcolm at the base of your pilla- Oops.
--> 11-20: The arrow missed the target, but almost hit one of your schoolmates on the other pillar; whoever thought it was a good idea to have these pillars so close to each other anyway?!
--> 21-39: The arrow overshot the target, soaring into the horizon...
--> 40 and above: You hit the target! PASS!

-> You have 3 tries (because 3 arrows).
-> If someone else fails with all their arrows, and you have spare arrows left, you can actually help them out by firing your remaining arrow(s) at their target. To do this, simply QUOTE the person you are helping, and bold your action like XYZ decided to help ABC out, and shot his reminding arrow at ABC's target.
--> Whether you actually hit the target or not is another question though, but u tried.
-> You can help regardless of whether you are currently at the top of the pillar, or had already climbed back down!
-> If the person you want to help is already back on the ground, that's fine too! You can still help.

Climbing down the pillar: 1d12
-> Regardless of whether your arrow hit the target, you have to climb back down!
-> The number rolled is the distance climbed without taking a break.
-> Keep rolling until you get a TOTAL of at least 10 [Eg. You rolled 4, and then 5. Your total is now 9/10].
-> You have unlimited rolls.
-> Rolling a 11 or 12 would mean that your student slipped, and fell from the pillar. Nothing that will kill them, but it does hurt pretty badly. On body and on pride... But at least they're down!

At the very least, she didn't have to stay in the carriage for very long. The other ghoul certainly seemed cheery and excited, and Marzena knew better than to get that sort into a conversation. It wasn't as if she was the one who would start it, but one of the boils had certainly seemed as though he would try.

Advance even when they failed? Huh. Marzena narrowed her eyes. It didn't mean she wouldn't do her best, of course.

She made her way up halfway before stopping to take a quick deep breath.

She was a swimmer, not a climber. Nevertheless, she swam every day and that exercise had to count for something.

And it did. She scaled the pillar easily enough, but the next part...

Marzena was certainly no archer either.

...Or maybe she was.

Beginner's luck, Marzena supposed, a smile curving on her lips as she watched the first arrow she had ever fired hit the target.

With two arrows left and a bow clutched in her hand, Marzena made her way down, back where they had started.

Though it was a bit difficult to grasp on to the grooves when her hands were otherwise occupied.

With that, her feet touched the ground. Well, that certainly was... an easy exam. Easier than she had thought it would be, anyway.

...Marzena wasn't even sure what she had expected in the first place.

She leaned against her pillar, watching the rest of the students go about the task that they had been set. Nothing to do except to wait for all of them to be done, she supposed.

Lovely, you say?” TK murmured to Clyde before he remained quiet once more, hands folded together and in his lap. At least the trip didn’t last long. He frowned when he jerked forward, but otherwise slid out of the carriage and mutely watched the gnome drive away. What a pleasant fellow.

He briefly looked at the professor then at the set up. Climbing and archery? He didn’t know what to expect from the exam, but he wasn’t exactly expecting this. TK rubbed the back of his neck briefly before he followed after Marzena and climbed.

TK wasn't much of an athlete, but aiming he could at least do. He pulled the string back and notched the arrow. It took him a moment to steady his arm, but eventually he let go and the arrow whizzed through the air and hit the target. He smiled.
