The lifestyle of these dragons is foreign to most. Not only do they have a hard
life due to their alpha and protector, but the threat of all those around them is
a tough one as well. They live in a territory that is hard to survive in for other
creatures; equine and creature alike. The dragons survive easily, as they were
practically built to live in the harsh mountain ranges.
The daily events differ greatly than those of other Soquili. Hunting parties,
formed from guards and scouts, go out daily to gather meat for all the
dragons to eat. The best is delivered to Smaug by his adviser, Helka,
personally. Every week or so, Smaug will call upon all the dragons of his
flight, and talk to them about their current standing in the world. He will
weed out the weak, killing any he finds that are worthless to their clan.
Not many are able to reach the cave where the alpha resides, as
he does not usually like to be bothered. But when they do, it had better be
important. Helka usually handles most of the issues that arise within the
herd.
Those that are captured and brought into the herd lands have a specific
reason and purpose. They are usually captured by guards for some skill
that has been observed before. That being said, they are prisoners. Their life
consists of doing as one of the higher up dragon's say; be it to dig a hole, or
to work on some other task ( gathering/carrying treasure to Smaug's cave,
moving meat for the dragons, disposing of corpses, ect ). Their life is hard,
and abusive.
Alpha & Protector: The one and only; Smaug. Smaug calls all the shots
when it comes to the creatures that reside in his mountains. He rarely comes
out, and prefers to send the adviser to deal with most matters. But when it
comes to real threats, he is out there at the head of his flight.
Adviser: Helka is the only person that Smaug would trust to reside in
this position. She does everything that Smaug asks, and would lay down
her life to please him ( or so Smaug thinks ). She handles most issues
within the herd, and is the voice of Smaug. When she says something, they
listen.
Smaug's Consort: Third in command and restricted to the caves, Indra
is Smaug's plaything. The water dragon doesn't get to leave often, but when
he does, it is with guards, and held at the highest priority. He's treated like
a treasure that is irreplaceable; which is what he is to Smaug. Those that
threaten him come to a quick death.
Guards/Scouts: These dragons are held at a high rank within the
flight. The only way to become a guard, is to prove yourself in a battle against
a dragon of Smaug's choice. He will decide if they are able to hold the
position that Smaug deems worthy. Scouts go out on hunting trips, finding
food to bring back to the territory.
Healers: Half the time, this position is filled by a prisoner Unicorn. But,
when a dragon with the powers of healing is found, that position will be
filled by that dragon, and the unicorn will either be killed, or sent to do some
other work. On rare occasions, the lead healer will require the unicorns to
stay at their side, controlling them in order to heal hurt dragons.
Teachers/Nannies: These selective dragons are generally hand picked
by Smaug or Helka themselves. The two leaders of the Flight know how
important the foals are in the Flight, and they can't just go about and be
taught by some run of the mill dragon. Oh no. They need the best of the
best. After observation at a lifestyle that the dragon possess, Smaug or
Helka will approach and talk to them about being a teacher or a nanny for the
babies.
Craftsman: These dragons, and sometimes prisoners, are in charge
of forming the gold coins/gems/ect for the flight. That being said, it is a
vast section of the flight. They could work in the mines to gather items for
the crafting, they could physically do the crafting ( some need help from
familiars ), they could even work to make fur pelts for higher ups to sleep
on or give as gifts. The craftsman have a bit more freedom, as they can
easily slip under the eye of Helka.
Foals: Their only job is to play and have fun. Though they are raised
in a harshness, children are valued greatly. They are seen, by Smaug
personally, to determine what they may be good for when they grow older.
That being said, if he sees strength in them, Smaug will assign them to train
with the guards. If he sees them as beautiful children, he will give them the
choice on what to do, as Smaug values their beauty over most other things.
Prisoners: The lowest of the low, these creatures will do nothing other
than what they are told. They may resist, and they may fight it, but the
dragons will be harsh, and they will fight back. This could result in scars,
emotionally damage, mental trauma, ect. The prospect of them escaping is
slim.
Those Without Ranks: These are just additional members of the flight
that have no real place with any other rank. They could be entertainers, or
even gatherer's. Anything really. These are not as important to Smaug as the
other ranks, and so he does not bother with them often; with that, they aren't
monitored as often either, and have a bit more freedom.
