Welcome to the Noble Valley Herd.

The Noble Valley Herd is open to anyone who believes in being of an exalted moral or mental character. Who strives towards excellence. Who is admirable in dignity, manner, and expression. The Noble Valley Herd believes in being noble of spirit, in protecting the innocent and weak, and in creating a community of like minded beings.

OOC RULES:
1. Follow Gaia ToS.
2. Be polite and courteous to members and non-members alike.
3. Remember that this is for fun and don't let others ruin your enjoyment.

~ The bottom of the totem pole reveals Rhinoceros:
Rhinoceros
Only when you are truly comfortable in your own skin can you begin to access the ancient wisdom within you.

Rhinoceros is here to remind you to appreciate the expansive bounty that surrounds you. Stop and give thanks to the infinite miracles occurring in every moment of your life. Use your spiritual eyes, not your physical eyes to see the truth and maintain a close connection with “Mother Earth” as you expand your inner knowledge to a whole new level.

~ Above Rhinoceros is Horse:
Horse
Horse brings you freedom. You are never forced to do anything. The choice is always yours.

You are being asked to understand that true power is wisdom found in remembering your journey as a whole. Compassion, caring, teaching, loving, and sharing your gifts, talents and abilities are the gateways to power.

~ Above Horse is Otter:
Otter
Do something special to awaken the joy in your life!

Universal acceptance of “what is” in your life is the only way for you to move forward. This form of embracing the good with the bad and seeking out the joy of the moment will manifest a new freedom of love and acceptance. Honor the right of everything and everyone to be as they are. Simply allow things to unfold in your life.

~ On top of the totem pole is Falcon.
Falcon
Look at the bigger picture rather than what is right in front of you.

You are being asked to be vigilant. Opportunities for big positive changes in your life are always close at hand and will require good planning and strategy as well as action on your part. You are reminded that you have all the tools and knowledge to take advantage of opportunities and that your success depends on your quick reactions. Stay focused and grateful for all that is coming your way. Know that you have the ability to soar high and see things with greater vision!

The founder of the Noble Valley Herd was on a journey of self discovery. Riidkii, who's name means Noble Protector, came from a distant land. He was the third son of the forest's ruler and king. He never had a great desire to rule, though he often was at odds with his father and older brothers on the subject of leadership.

Riidkii felt that to lead, one must care for those in their care. That all decisions should be made for the good of the group and not any individual. He did not take his name to mean he was better than others, but rather embraced the other meanings of Noble. He would strive towards excellence, be admirable in dignity, and of exalted moral character. Or at least come as close as he could to those goals.

But his family did not see Nobility the same way. And while he loves them, he could not stay without confronting their manners and rule. And while he ached for those who fell under the rule of his father, he knew nothing was done for cruelty. There was no intent to harm, and often decisions were made that did benefit the whole. It was the belief behind the decisions that Riidkii had problems with.

So he left. His journey was long, often barely looking up as he plodded through strange lands. His mind worked as he traveled, trying to decide what he should do.

He saw a strange creature, grey and squat. It's hide was thick, though it bore a horn upon its head much like Riidkii. In curiosity, the stallion approached it. It was only when he got close that Riidkii realized it was a spirit. But it spoke into his heart, giving him guidance and wisdom. Riidkii encountered three other spirits upon his journey, each granting him understanding.

The last spirit, the Falcon, visited Riidkii in the mountains. It directed him down a path and into a valley. The sight of the valley took Riidkii's breath away. A clear stream ran along one side, morning fog still clinging to the nearby mountains. A single maple tree wreathed in the fire of fall stood in the middle of the valley.

Riidkii knew that this place could be a home. But more, that it could be a refuge. Here he would build the society that would benefit all of its people. There would be no 'ruler' no king. None would be over the others who would not work alongside them. There must be one to make decisions, counseled by those who were wise and knowledgeable. But the ideals of nobility would be what guided those decisions.

With the philosophy of Riidkii and Nobility at the forefront of the Herd, The Noble Valley Herd there are no 'Ranks'. Instead, there are Duties, tasks, obligations, etc. These are the 'jobs' that the different Herd members accept as part of belonging to the Noble Valley Herd.

Noble Protector

The Noble Protector is the erstwhile leader of the Noble Valley Herd. This is a Soquili who believes that leading means being in the front, working with the herd and guiding them to the betterment of the whole herd. It is someone who will give everything to the herd, laying down his or her life if needed.

Nurturing Counselor

The Nurturing Counselor is often the Noble Protector's mate, though this is not always the case. The Nurturing Counselor's job is to hear and understand the needs of the herd. The Nurturing Counselor often arbitrates conflict and helps maintain the peace of the herd.

Wise Counsel

The Wise Counsel often have other duties in the herd. But these are the Soquili who come together to give Counsel and guidance to the Noble Protector. The Nurturing Counselor is always part of the Wise Counsel. Unless a member of the Wise Counsel is old, injured, or ill, they also take on other duties. There are normally for or five Wise Counsel members.

Healers

Healers are tasked with the physical, mental, and emotional health of the Herd. The most experienced healer is often on the Wise Counsel. Healers care for the herd with every skill available to them and every healer is expected to learn every technique of healing they are capable of performing.

Rangers

Rangers travel the valley and beyond. They act as scouts, guides, diplomats, and when all else fails as guards and soldiers. Rangers know the area and watch for threat, be that wild fires, locusts, plant blight, or violent intruders. They also look for those in need, hurt or alone. And those are invited to join the Herd, or simply spend time in it's safety before moving on.

Nurturers

Nurturers serve in many ways. Some as nannies and teachers of the young, some aid the healers and care for the patients who are in long term care. They know the plants of the area and what is good to eat, what will make you sick, and what can be made into medicines. Nurturers keep an area of the valley as a garden and care for it as well as any familiars who are in need and part of the herd.

Gatherers

Gatherers range about gathering food and items that can be used by the herd. They sometimes overlap with the Rangers, either traveling with them or serving some of the same roles.

Creators

Creators use their minds, their imaginations, their skill, their talents to create amazing things. Sometimes these are crafts for use by the herd or in trade. Sometimes these are improvements to make life easier. Sometimes this is art and music, to bring joy to those around them. And sometimes this is new life. Mothers who are near to giving birth and those who have new foals in baskets may take up the Creator duty for a time while they care for themselves and the new life they have created. Once the baskets open and the foals emerge Mothers may become Nurturers or resume their previous duties while the Nurturers take up the role of caring for the foals.

The members of the Noble Valley Herd consider themselves as leaves on the tree. Each serves a purpose and none is whole without the rest of the tree.
