Y2 -> Y3 EXAMS STUDENTS ONLY

Welcome to the official Y2 > Y3 EXAM DUNGEON

An exam is necessary to pass from Y2 to Y3 but the exam can either be this self-run dungeon, or you may post for an NPC run exam here if you would prefer NPC interaction! Whichever you choose is up to you, but you must complete at least one in order to grow / post for growth art!

  • This exam can be taken either solo or with a friend or two!
  • This exam is taken entirely at your own pace! You can take a day, a month, a year, whatever you want!
  • Have fun with it! This is meant to be a good opportunity to delve a little into your character!
  • You can only do this exam if you have met the necessary RP requirements. This is not a take-anytime-and-use-later dungeon!
  • You do not need to pass this exam, you just need to complete it (and meet the 800 word count requirement) for it to count!
  • You must still post for your exam here; just note that you are doing the exam dungeon!
  • GMs will still check to make sure you've completed your reqs, so make sure you've got everything ready!
  • Y3 is the final stage for a Halloweener! Graduation is just an optional bonus stage!

Again, an exam for passing onto the next year is mandatory, but now you have the option of doing a self-run dungeon or requesting an NPC run exam! Best of luck to you all!

THE EXAM: MAZE OF MADNESS (Y2 > Y3)

There's no note this time; you wake up in the middle of the night to find yourself standing at the entrance to an enormous maze. Towering hedges stretch on for what seem like forever, and you have no idea where at school you even are, but it seems like every time you try to step backwards, you can't. Your footsteps only carry you forwards, to the maze.

"Greetings," says a voice to your left, and when you turn you can see a pale haired man with sharp teeth smiling genially at you. "My name is Professor Zephron; I'm the Potions Professor here at school, and I'm here to guide you through your exam."

He gestures towards the maze. "It's simple, really - all you have to do is get through the maze. I'll be waiting on the other side with your certificate, so come find me, okay?"

And with a grin, he shifts into a monstrous emerald hellhound and darts away, deep into the maze.

Well. Guess you better get started!

THE EXAM
There are two parts to this exam! You must complete both in order to successfully complete it!

PART 1: COUNTING STEPS

You need to get to 30 steps in order to get to Part 2! At each milestone passed there will be a small status effect, so make sure you're reading them carefully!

  • Roll 1d12 with each post to see how many steps you go!
  • At 5 steps you realize the world has tipped and you are now walking upside down. It doesn't hurt, but it sure feels weird...
  • At 10 steps you're right side up again, but it's like you're walking through thick mud, though you see none. Your legs feel heavier than normal.
  • At 15 steps your legs feel okay, but now the maze keeps going in circles around you and it's starting to make you feel kind of sick...
  • At 20 steps (thankfully) the world has stopped spinning, but you realize that somehow you've shrunk. Or maybe the maze has just gotten bigger.
  • At 25 steps, you seem to be your normal size again, but it's so cold and so windy it's almost as though you're being pushed backwards.
  • At 30 steps, you seem to have finally made it through almost the entire maze. In fact, you think you can see the door up ahead, except...

    Except....

PART 2: THE FIGHT

As you near the end of the maze, something huge blocks your way - a dark shadow that has been lurking ever since you started walking. It looms in front of you and seems to want to deny you passageway - but you've already come this far, you're not going to let a little shadow get in your way!

Except as the shadow moves closer, it shifts form - and suddenly you're facing not a shadow, but yourself; except wispy tendrils of black are seen emanating from the fingers and toes, even the eyes upon occassion.

    How...weird.

  • Your shadow self has 50 HP.
  • Use standard attack dice to kill it (2d8 - 6)!
  • It does 2 autodamage for every successful attack. If you miss, you don't take autodamage!
  • You are allowed to use FEARS!

Upon dissipation of your shadow self, you finally reach the end of the maze and burst through. An emerald colored hellhound sits beneath a nearby tree, looking as pleased as pie. When you walk nearer, he shifts form and the Professor comes into view again, raking blonde hair out of his eyes. There is a stack of parchments beside him; Certificates of Exam Completion.

"Congrats," he says pleasantly, and bends to pick up one of the parchments. He hands it to you with a smile. "Welcome to Hob level."

Mazes, they were never a difficult concept. Initially, he had intended to follow the green hellhound's scent but, to his surprise, he could not pick it up. He wasn't sure if the hellhound had none or that his abilities were nullified here in the maze. It had been a while since he had entered, his right hand firm against the wall to his side - a surefire way that he would never ever go back the same way he came. So the task was simple; make it through the maze where the green hellhound would be likely waiting for him. As long as there was so sort of trick that could send him back out... well, then he should be okay. For the most part. Then again, it was Halloween and anything can happen. And that realization made him growl something fierce when he he was staring at what he had thought to be the ceiling when he noticed that.... fauna do not grow on ceilings like that. He kept his hand where it was, staring directly above himself noticing the flowering plant through the cracks where the wall met the floor (or ceiling at this point). If the maze had tipped itself then keeping his hand on the wall meant that it would have shifted to the left wall... but he never took his hand off of it so the wall had to still be the left wall. As long as he continued to believe that... this maze wouldn't get the better of him.

After a moment, the room seemed to be normal again... however, as he had lifted his foot to move, his head jerked down quickly as a sensation ran through his body. Something was keeping him from moving. It was like resistance training but on another level. Tugging on his foot, he tried to lift it further to get it to move, but it felt like something was keeping it back, keeping it from lifting. Jack it. He thought. He'll trudge it. At least this would be a good work out.

If it was not one thing, it was another. This time, the maze felt like it was going in some sort of spiral. Even when he stood still, it felt like it was spinning. Ducking his head, he growled with shut eyes as he tried to maintain his control, keep his bearings. He had to keep his hand on the wall or the maze would screw with him further and he'd be really lost. Taking deep breaths, he muttered under his breath three names as he took a step. Muttered the names, and took a step, muttered, step, muttered, step, when finally it felt okay again. Opening his eyes, he noticed that the maze had stopped spinning... but he also noticed that the walls have gotten larger and the maze's lane had gotten wider. Either the maze had gotten bigger as he walked to rival that of the highest tower of the dorms and the biggest Bruteball field he had stepped on, or he had shrunk...

Either of these were highly likely possibilities.

With each storming step, Uru found the maze growing smaller (or he was growing larger back to normal, whichever the case), he felt the familiar chill of the cold brushing up against him. At first, he was excited, he enjoyed the cold as much as he enjoyed heat, but when that cold became blistering and whipped him hard, giving him further resistance, it wasn't something he enjoyed anymore. He snarled as he pressed forward, his left arm raised to shield his eyes, leaned against the right wall and pressed on. After this, he was going back to the monster's dorm, crashing on the bed. This was a work out in itself and he already worked out today to psyche himself for the examination!

There it was! The door! Uru finally let his right hand off the wall as he sprinted toward it. The exam was over and he'd be recognized as a 'Hob Goblin'! As he approached, something crossed his peripherals to cause him to jump back with a snarl.

"Get out of my way." he growled, the sound of tightening leather as his fists clenched tight. The threat was not hallow.

While he had growled at the shadow, he did not miss the resemblance as it stepped forward. It was himself. The shadows had taken on his form and he could not help but feel a tad envious. Would that be him? Would that have been what he would be like if he was an Umbra Hellhound instead of Cocytus? Would he have mastery of the shadows such as this that he was one with it? His father would have taught him. His father would have raised him right, guided him to be better than what he was now. It was then that it lunged with an eerie silence that took him by surprise as his fists quickly erupted into blue fire, his fists striking outwards to defend himself.

Fists flew in a series of blows - practiced and calculated once the demon had gathered his footing as he charged at the shadow being recoiling from the initial strike. He was strong. He raised himself after his father disappeared. This shadow wasn't what he would be if he was an Umbra, this shadow would be what he would have been if he let the darkness overwhelm him. He could see the horrid movements in its steps, he could see how its attacks were wild and wide.

The demon threw a right hook, catching his shadow off-guard, as its arm came up with the momentum to catch his shoulder as he went for a forward jab as the shadow recoiled again.

The shadow came at him this time, its maw opening to catch his forearm. Uru was fine with that... if it didn't mind getting a few blows to the head.

Uru briefly let loose his demon hellhound, his form taken away in a wisp of darkness as the large canid took his place, his claws swiping at claws, fangs snapping at fangs. It was a dog fight at this point - their attacks were wild and powerful, deadly and mortal, but while one was unpredictable, Uru had more control of where he would strike next.

While the shadow had gotten his claws on him, Uru had a firm grip of his jaws over the being's shoulder, enough so that he could take it down with a powerful thud. He would not be able to pin it down for long...

Fighting as a demon was tough, it took a toll, but it also meant that he had to get very close and personal to the shadow. Since that was the case, he was opening himself to attacks...

Taking his jacket off, Uru readied himself for attacks as he countered appropriately, his white tank top ripped where the shadow's claws met his flesh. Snarling, the demon countered.

Uru was still ready to go, his eyes narrowed on the shadow, his fists up and ready. The shadow was staggering a bit as it shook to get to its feet from a hard blow to the flank. The demon smirked, it was done for.
