Fate can be an strange mistress at times. Perhaps 'shipper' would be a better term for her. There's an odd saying, "once is an accident, twice is coincidence, three times is conspiracy," and anything beyond that? Well that's when you know a divine power is involved. This is the odd little story of one boy who time and time again comes to the aid of one girl, and the more he saves her the more he wants to know her world. This is the story of the savior getting saved. This is the story of finding the drive and determination to make your own dreams and wishes come true. Hell, this is probably going to be a love story too. Oh, and did I mention that boy savior is half fish?

Name: Kai
Personality: Kai is generally a very shy and timid sort, but extremely curious and will often brighten up almost immediately at the thought of learning about something new. He wasn't always so curious though, and really only started to crave knowledge after repeatedly saving a human girl.
Bio: Kai was seven when he saved the girl the first time. He didn't care all that much about the girl at the time, and just saved her because she seemed to be in trouble. He was fourteen when he saved her again, and thought her familiar. Lingering out of sight to see if his hunch was correct, he learned she was indeed the same girl from so long ago. After seeing some of the human world while spying on her, he became curious about it, and began dreaming of the world above. He couldn't know he'd meet her one more time, and from there their fate would be sealed.

Name: Fiona
Personality: Fiona is very sweet and well mannered, but ultimately an adventurer at heart. She is always asking questions, out loud or otherwise, and is often getting into trouble because of it. She can be quite brave, doing dangerous and sometimes outright stupid for the sake of having done them.
Bio: Fiona is the daughter of an incredibly wealthy businessman, considered by some to be a princess in all but name. She grew up with tales of her grandfather's exploits within the military and her mother's favorite fables, which ultimately left her with an eternal thirst for adventure. Naturally, despite her kind and gentle nature, this meant that she's always been something of a handful - as she's frequently found herself in some type of trouble or another. This includes her excapades with a mysterious merboy, one whom she grows increasingly curious about as the years pass.

Kai had finally found the courage to explore one of the deeper fissures in his corner of the sea when the storm hit. Not cool, weather, not cool. As if the local shipwreck or two wouldn't be creepy and cold enough, now he got to hear the muffled thunder overhead. But it wasn't the roar of thunder or flash of lightning that made him look up at the surface of the water. It was the shadow of a large ship passing overhead, just barely visible through the water darkened by how deep and far from the surface and sky it was. The shipwreck would still be here, but passing ships were always a rare treat. How big was it? What did it look like? What sort of people were on board? Would it hold up to the storm? He hadn't even thought of that last one, and another thunder clap made him swim faster until his head of shaggy blue hair popped up from the choppy seas. He paused to try and admire the vessel through the rain, but was almost swept up in the waves had he not clung to a stray rock formation. He squinted, trying to make out anything of the ship, even if it was just the shape of the sails, though his eyes kept flicking back to the deck in case a figure fell overboard.

Towards one of the outermost edges, tightly gripping the firm railing, was the form of a peculiar being. A dainty maiden was staring towards the sky, a soggy golden braid whipping about behind her back in whatever directions the wind demanded. Her large honey brown eyes wide with excitement and wonder at the sights before her - the magesty of tempest as the silver skies crackled with rage and the waters viciously swirled and fought the violent airy blows of the storm. Of course, there was a reason that people usually didn't stand out on a boat's deck to admire the lovely view, as the heavy rocking of the ship soon proved too much for Fiona to bear. Quickly thrust into the churning oceon, the foolish girl barely had enough time to scream before sinking into the angry waters.

Kai's sapphire eyes narrowed before growing wide when he realized someone had just gone overboard. He didn't hesitate in diving into the churning seas, fighting the current the whole way as he made his way to the girl. In the water she felt incredibly light in his arms. It was rather difficult carrying her above water and swimming in the rough water, but he wasn't going to let her drown. He found the rock formation from before and laid her down on it, lifting himself up to lay beside her before pressing an elven ear to her chest. Her heart was still beating....but her lungs were silent. His eyes widened again and took a deep breath before pressing her lips to hers, hoping the passing of the storm wouldn't be some bittersweet omen here as the rain began to let up. A strong wind was all that was left of the storm once Kai finally got her coughing up the salt water, letting air back into the girl's lungs. Now that he could breathe a sigh of relief, Kai once again noticed a familiarity about her, bringing more warmth into his smile of relief. "You and water really don't seem to be on good terms." he chuckled, mostly to himself, as he wasn't sure how conscious she'd be after her little death defying swim. Kai propped himself as best he could on his tail to try and be as visible as possible to her ship, and once he got their attention, he turned back to Fiona one last time with a smile, the silver moonlight reflecting beautifully off his sapphire tail. "I wish there were better ways to meet like this than saving you from drowning, but I'll take what I can get." he didn't stick around to chat properly, and instead slipped gracefully back into the sea before Fiona's ship came to get her, her last glimpse of Kai being the end of his deep blue tail, at least for a few more months.

Several months later, Fiona's last incident played repeatedly in her head. 'You and water really don't seem to be on good terms,' he said. The first thing he ever said to her, and it just had to be snark at her expense. She still hadn't figured out whether she should be offended or amused, although she more often than not leaned towards the latter. 'I wish there were better ways to meet like this than saving you from drowning, but I'll take what I can get,' he'd said after that, which certainly helped his case. It would have been nice to see him on better circumstances, but how would that come to be? He could be anywhere in the oceon by now, and she was lucky to be on a ship after what happened last time. All she could do was gaze off at the currently calm waters, a feeling of melancholy slowly overtaking her being.

Kai panted as he swam as fast as his fins could carry him, casting a glance behind him at the pair of sharks chasing after him. Around his waist was a bit of cloth with a large red crystal orb bobbing at the end. He saw the ship's shadow and curse his lack of time to check it out, but he had more pressing matters. His brief destraction was enough for one of the sharks to ram him, the rough skin starting to rub his tail raw. A flurry of blue and gray fins could be seen near the boat, blood starting to spill in the water as Kai splashed about trying to avoid getting a bite taken of of his tail, though at this rate it seemed unlikely. If the splashing and blood didn't attract attention, then the poor mer getting slammed into the hull certainly would.

Fiona, being the fool she was, ran quickly to the edge the bump came from in hopes of seeing what exactly was going on. She came just in time to see flashes of blue scales, grey fins, and blood. While she might be a fool, one couldn't say that she wasn't a quick thinker when she needed to be. Without a moment's hesitation she ran towards where the lifesavers were kept, and at first opprotunity, threw one for the quite probably wounded merman. "Fish boy!" she exclaimed, hoping to get his attention. "Grab on! I'll try to pull you on board!" Would he even hear her? She could only hope...

Kai looked up at the sound of the voice, realizing that pausing was probably a very bad idea right now and turned his attention back down to see a pair of jaws heading straight for him. He dodged out of the way, swimming down to get some distance and letting him pick up speed for his great leap. He straight up ignored the life preserver, grabbing the rope midway up and awkwardly wriggling as he tried to pull his way up the rest of the way. "Pull me up! PULL ME UP!" he cried in terror, now hanging there as he continued to yank his tail up and out of reach of the leaping sharks below.

Fiona immediately complied, showing a surprising bit of strength for such a scrawny young lady. It wasn't long until she had him on board - along with the lifesaver he hadn't bothered with - and looked him over in search of any obvious wounds. Not knowing mer physiology very well, she hesitantly asked, "Are you alright?" Even if she didn't know him very well, he'd saved her life several times now - and it wouldn't do to have someone that's been so good to her die. Not if she could help it. As a result, her face took on an expression of both determination and worry - should that be even possible.

"Ow ow ow...." Kai grimmaced in pain as he lay stretched on the deck and leaned up against the railing. While there were no bites taken out of him, places on his tail were red and raw from where the sharks had ran into him and scratched him with their rough skin. He pulled his tail up like a person pulling their knees into their chest and held the open wounds. It was then that he finally took notice of his savior, eyes growing wide. "It's you!!" he said in surprise before he gave a small yelp as he fell onto his side, purely due to being unaccustomed to moving on land, much less a rocking ship. Now he gripped his head, wincing in pain after knocking it against a barrel.

With something of a smirk, Fiona remarked, "Yessir, it's me. And lookie here, I'm not drowning." Of course, her face quickly fell back to one of concern at seeing the merboy hit his head on the barrel. "If you'll let me, I can take you off deck if that will help matters any. Might do you some good to be where you can't fall into a shark's mouth due to a bad rock." she said, moving to kneel beside the male. If he would agree to it, she intended to carry him to her room - maybe bandage up his wounds if he thought it'd help any.

"Y-Yeah, that'd be great...." Kai blushed a bit as he glanced away, embarrassed purely for being carried by the girl he'd rescued on three separate occassions. It was hard to claim manhood when he was already easy on the eyes, but half fish to boot, but the ordeal was managing to bruise it none the less.

Careful not to hurt him any further or to bump into anything, Fiona gingerly carried the merman off to her chambers. Somehow she managed to avoid running into her grandfather or any of the crewmen, which in hindsight is something she should probably feel thankful for. How would they, perhaps a rather superstitious lot, feel about her having a fishboy on ship? It was bad enough to some that a girl was allowed aboard, after all. Upon their arrival she layed him down on her bed, which was nailed down to the floor, before going to shut her door and lock it. "Does human medicine work on mer wounds? Should I bandage anything up?" she asked, not really sure how to handle the situation any further. "Can I get you anything?"
