[ 1v1 ] Punching Practice (Meixiang/Rojo)

Following his spar with Alette and her warning about horrible, book-throwing humans, Rojo contemplated practicing his fighting more regularly. Then he found about a million things to do that were more fun. He had been doing those things and quite happily minding his own business when he had been reminded just how necessary it was to keep up with being mean. He had met a demon boil he really would have liked to have punched, but he couldn't do so without instigating a fight he was bound to lose.

That was why today was training day.

The skeleton was dressed in an entirely too new black track suit and matching sneakers with a red headband stretched across his skull. He bounced in place at the center of the gym, listening to his bones clink and waiting for something completely epic to occur, something that would show him the secret to becoming the strongest undead in Halloween.

Alright, so. It had become very clear to Meixiang that her fighting skills needed a bit of brushing up on. And by a bit it was a lot. She could move. She could groove. But when it came down to bare knuckles and powerful kicks she was quite lacking.

She was small. Ok short. But when she really tried, or made a fluke of it, she could get in maaaayyybbeee one or two good punches. Sometimes she wondered what it would be like if she was all fight crazy like a certain mohawked Reaper she recently met. Though he had a good point about people needing to make the most of sparring. It could save your skin one day. Though in the past it didn't seem so much so to her.

With her black gym shorts, and purple tank top the Jiang Shi had taken to beating on a sparring dummy. "Hooowaaaa!" Kick! "Heeeyyyaaaahhhh!" Punch! "Sheeeeeeeeeyeeeeeeeee!" Elbow to the face! The dummy though seemed to barely rock with each hit. The ghoul remembered what Moira had taught her about putting force behind her blows, but it just wasn't as easy as the Janitor had made it seem.

Attracted by her spirited shouts, Rojo made his way over to the older ghoul's side, watching her bludgeon the dummy with nothing short of awe. Honestly, the fact that it was barely moving didn't seem to register.

"I would like to spar with you, if that is okay?" he said, too distracted by his immediate desire to ask to remember to properly introduce himself. "Just for practice."

Phew.

Meixiang brushed her forehead scroll aside to wipe at her forehead with the sleeve of her shirt. Her attention drawn to the sudden voice, but she immediately smiled.

The boil wanted to spar with her, just for practice. "Alright! Just for practice. Go easy on me though I'm not that great of a fighter." It would be good to go up against something that actually moved and fought back.

Rojo smiled, though it was more of a slight drop of his jaw and a small, happy hop than a conventional grin. "I will try!" He knew he had no chance of beating an upperclassman, but it was nice of her to imply that he might. The skeleton stepped away from the dummies and other breakable things and crouched into an awkward fighting stance.

"Okay! Begin punching!" If he'd had eyelids, they would have been squeezed shut.

Hmmm, well. She would try to go as easy on him as she could. Meixiang didn't want to KO him right on the spot. Of course, half the time she couldn't quite control just how much damage she could do to others. Sometimes it would be like a kitten batting at their face other times it was like a tornado ripped through the room.

It was some kind of curse or just her poor fighting skills and she somehow ended up landing a lucky hit.

The ghoul took a minimal fighting stance, she had never fought a skeleton before so she really hoped nothing came popping off if she did land a hit. "Alright here goes!" Slender fingers clenched into a fist as she took a few speedy hops towards him. She pulled her arm back and let her fist fly towards his jaw.

He tried to turn or move or do anything that could be considered defensive, and to some small degree, he succeeded. The punch landed to the left of his eye socket, just below his temple. It stunned him a bit and he stumbled, but he managed to remain intact.

"That..." It didn't really hurt—to be honest, not much did—but he had seen stars, he was sure of it. "...hurt!" It was probably the easiest way to describe anything fight-related, even if it wasn't strictly true. He swung his left fist wide in an imitative gesture, not aiming anywhere in particular at all. "It... burned! Or prickled!" He was far too chipper for it to have really done either of those things. Oh, well. Rojo hoped it made her feel good about her fighting skills anyway.

To say his reaction caught her a little off guard was a bit of an understatement. He didn't really react at all in fact. Except perhaps what he perceived as an expected response to a punch to the face?

Meixiang wasn't even sure if skeletons could feel real pain. They were all bones after all. Did they have nerves in their bones? Or were they just like...rocks.

She was caught up in her thoughts that she forgot that he would be counter attacking and she twisted her body awkwardly at the last second. His fist punching her in the boob. The ghoul's involuntary reaction was to smack at his face as she clutched her chest. "Hey now! No punchin' the goods!"

The slap did shock him, mostly because of its darting speed. Rojo hopped away, his hands folding behind his back.

"I am sorry! I didn't mean to hit... the goods."

When he'd first arrived at school he had known little about the squishier bits of his fellow students. Even now, some things left him confused. He was aware of plenty of names for the parts of her body she was shielding, but "goods" hadn't been one of them until now. Why goods? Were they good? Were they for sale? He had a feeling asking either question would just be awkward, which was something he'd largely learned to avoid since starting at Amityville.

"I will aim lower next time," he said instead with a shallow bow.

"Good." She stopped for a second as a thought ran through her mind. "Just be careful if you ever spar with a male not to aim too low. With different opponents you have to be able to adjust your fighting style for different situations."

She took a more defensive stance this time. A wide grin spread across her face as she gave Rojo a bring it motion with the fingers of her outstretched arm. "Now come on! If I were a real baddy I would have knocked you down as you apologized."

Not too high on a ghoul or too low on a boil. Rojo committed the rules to memory, tightening his fist for another attack, as instructed. The skeleton threw an awkward punch backed by the force of his swiveling body, landing a hit that he didn't think was half bad. He raised his arms a little in celebration before considering that mid-fight victory dances were probably not all that strategically sound.

"That is just for sparring, yes? Real baddies should get smacked in the goods if it hurts more?"

Mei couldn't help but grin and laugh just a bit at his celebratory dance after he landed a pretty decent punch to her arm. She rubbed her bicep for a second before giving him an affirming nod.

"Right! You've got it!" The ghoul have him a thumbs up. "Smack em in the goods and you'll be good. Also knees are a good place to go for too." She made a light kick at his knee, missing, but Mei figured it would be good for demonstration anyhow. "Even if an opponent is bigger than you, everyone is the same size on the ground." That gave her pause for a second. "Well....unless they are like super DUPER big then probably not so much the same size."

Her words brought back irritating memories of a certain angry plant ghoul's assault on his completely innocent self. Yes. He certainly agreed that knocking people on their backs was a sound strategy. It was a tactic he probably should have only been using on baddies as well, but he kind of wanted to try it now. He could always aim his attack wrong. That would help, right?

Rojo took a couple of steps back then raised his hand and, with a burst of FEAR, launched it at the ghoul. A flurry of confetti trailed in its disembodied wake as it flew for her shins.

Well she certainly hadn't been expecting that. It took a second for the FEAR attack to register in her brain but by that time it was a bit too late as it hit her shins. A slight burning and tingling sensation ran up her legs as the ghoul faltered in her step and took a knee. Bracing herself with her hands so she didn't fall forward on her face and make a complete fool of herself.

"Ahah! Good one!" It took a second for her to stand up once again, rubbing each shin on the back of her leg to get the feeling to go away. It was only mildly annoying. Lucky for her, while it was still a pretty potent attack, it wasn't completely devastating.

Once she finally collected herself, she pulled her arm across her body, grasping her hand with the other and aimed her elbow towards him. "Here I come!" With a few quick steps she closed the distance between them, thrusting her elbow towards his chest.

Even with a warning, Rojo was still too slow to dodge the ghoul's elbow. He caught it in the sternum with a surprised chirp, countering as quickly as he could with the fist that was still attached. The confetti had worked well enough. Maybe being quick would be just as effective.

"That was a good hit! I am learning a lot."

Unfortunately what he wasn't learning was how to keep his hand from pranking him. The one that had flown toward Meixiang was taking its time crawling back to him, leaving him without the ability to properly punch. Maybe he could convince it to attack her from behind...
