There were screeches in the monster dorm halls first floor, louder than usual and not of the gleeful kind. What Wrex had yet to understand was that not all doors remained closed here, and not all kept their minipets locked safe. How was he supposed to know that these weren't free to pick up and eat? It wasn't like all of them had collars.

One did earlier, but that wasn't the point. (Like he could read that tiny print anyway.)

The point was that he had caught this one and therefore it was his to eat, right? But lo and behold, just as he was dropping the yowling foxfire into his mouth, its owner came at him like a howling mad ghoul, beating at him with rather painful fists. (Later he would learn that this particular species was a bigfoot, and that he was lucky she hadn't decided to just punt him then and there.)

"Let him go, you idiot!" the ghoul yelled as she tried to yank his meal away. Wrex growled at the intrusion and yanked back, tail lashing and ready to swat her away if the situation called for it. The poor minipet in the meanwhile was shaking visibly and trying to shrink, whimpering pitifully.

Probably not the first thing she would have thought to help with on one of her first few days of attending this new school but if it mean't she could get a little bit less noise clambering about the halls when she tried to sketch in her free time then she'd at least try.

And goodness, this was going to teach her well in where to give her aid.

When Damaris had been asked to help after venturing out into the hall to help in finding a missing minipet, she thought about how worried she'd be if she lost any of hers. How could she say 'no' to such a request?

Upon rounding the corner of one hallway, they had finally found their missing minipet but in one of the most compromising positions for the boil that was holding them. The owner, who she had been helping, rushed past her with a shoved to her shoulder to try and release the foxfire from the other.

"A-ah, wait...! Just...!" Damaris stammered as she hurried up to the bigfoot ghoul she had been helping, her hands patting their arm. "Calm down! I-I'm sure he didn't know!"

Though, Damaris had to admit that eating a minipet wasn't a good idea here as it could belong to anyone but she hadn't learned about this possibility as in the village most pets were kept inside. Safety purposes and such.

"Please! It's her pet and I-I'm sure she didn't mean to let it out!" Big, sandy-brown eyes peered at the boil. It wouldn't take more than a second to realize that this boil might be more inclined to try his hardest to keep the pet or even find her more tasty. Another thing she didn't want to happen on her first few days.

Unfortunately, it seemed to be less he didn't know and more he didn't care. Pets made no sense to him unless they were mounts, and this pitiful thing couldn't possibly serve any other purpose beyond a snack, right? Although it had way too much fur.

The distraught ghoul, who most certainly wasn't going to calm down, smacked him again, knocking the skull against his head painfully. Before he could try to retaliate, she managed to get both hands on a greater portion of the furred thing, lifted her foot, and forcibly pried him off.

Wrex fell over with an impressive thunk against the wall, the teeth of his helm pressing against his scalp. Groaning, he righted himself and eyeballed the pair of ghouls, debating if it was worth fighting for the meal anymore. Grumbling, he spat out some of the foxfire's fur that had been snagged in his mouth and rubbed at his head.

"What kind of idiot even--!" The ghoul huffed at him as she stroked her minipet; the creature was huddling in her arms and quivering with relief, safe beyond a bit of missing fur. She turned to Damaris and thanked her for her help.

Wrex just whined and made faces, daring to take a step forward while licking his lips. But what about his needs?

"Don't you even dare, boil, I'll kick you six ways to Frightday if you touch Sir Cuddlekins again!"

The Terron's hands froze at not exactly knowing what to do. Sure, the ghoul she had been helping was finally able to retrieve her pet and even thanked her for helping but was the violence truly necessary?

And was this boil serious? Damaris saw him getting back to his feet to try and regain the pet he had tried to devour. The deer ghoul didn't fancy watching him hit his head again. It looked rather painful.

"W-wait!" She put herself between the two, trying to put on her most polite smile to soothe the situation as best she could. Damaris may not look intimidating but she had to try! "Are you new here too? I-I heard there is a food place here. Cause you're hungry, right?" Appeal to the direct source of the problem.

"I'm sure we can find it. I... I can help." Her afternoon of taking a nap or reading was now, for sure, a goner. But she did feel bad that, despite his nearly eating someone's pet, that he probably had a few bumps on his head from that last act of retaliation.

The moment she intercepted, Wrex bristled and a hint of teeth made it past his lips. But she mentioned the magic f word, and that gave him pause. Was it a trick or a genuine offer? Granted, she looked an awful lot like some of the things his parents and brother hunted, so if worst came to worst, he was pretty sure he like just gnaw a leg off and call it a day. Or something.

Please don't kick him too...

Lips pursing, the boil pushed his helm back up rumbled something in the affirmative, gesturing with his head for her to lead the way. Bad Foot over there kept glaring at him, and he knew if he didn't get away now he's just initiate another fight that would probably get him kicked out; literally every other thing he did seem to at any rate. But he gave the deer ghoul a look before falling in line after her, clearly doubting the source of any "free" help. But he had to follow his stomach. (Like most of the time, sadly.)

"Make sure he gets a muzzle," the ghoul huffed before returning to her room. Wrex whipped his head around and hissed at the retreating back.

Damaris tried her hardest to suppress the 'eep' that bubbled up in her throat. Her heart raced as she kept her hooves planted in their spot. Her flight instincts were screaming at her but she had said she'd help with the situation. While one part of it had been resolved, it was time to address the other. The boil's hunger.

She threaded her hands together in front of her as her mind bounced about in trying to remember where she had happened upon the creepeteria when she had arrived. Her nose had helped her out during that time so she was hoping for the same luck.

The deer ghoul nearly jumped at the hissing as she watched the Big Foot ghoul return to her room, closing the door behind them. "A-ah, don't mind them. I doubt I'd even have the ability to..." She lightly patted his arm to draw his attention back.

"T-that is if I even wanted to! Not saying I do! Hunger can make anyone do things like that." Back pedaling was not her strong suit. A light, very nervous chuckle left her as she began guiding them through the hallways and down to the ground floor of the dorms.

Her fingers tangled into the edges of her shirt as she peered around at her surroundings. Was it that way..? No, that was the gym! Oh! Maybe... Nope. Great. She had a very hungry boil behind her that looked like they found her more delicious by the second. Damaris tilted her head up to try and get a whiff of something. Anything that was indicate their direction.

Something... Sweet. Oven-baked. There!

"This way." She caught the front door of the dorm's entrance as dragon boil had entered, holding it open for her starving companion.

Everything about her screamed prey, and so Wrex felt less threatened about the idea of betrayal. Deer usually ran anyway rather than plotted things. He relaxed as he toddled after her, hunched over and almost more horizontal than vertical as he walked. His tail was held out behind him to help balance him out; it was the posture he was used to, even if he looked out of place doing it in this form. Arms close to his chest, he kept a nose out for a trace of food while his eyes kept flickering back to his guide curiously.

When she opened the door, Wrex caught a blast of various food smells and immediately ducked under her arms, bumping her in the process with his tail waving to and fro as he moved to a jog. Food! Food on plates! Lots of food! The ambient noise of the creepateria and the smells together stunned him, though his tail continued to twitch eagerly, and once he recovered he began to bounce on his claws like a scareling.

Jackpot.

But Jack forbid he made another scene that denied him more meals, though. Wrex swiveled around, a little hop still evident in his shoulders as he silently asked the ghoul wat do. Did they have to make a line? They couldn't just, well, snag whatever was already out there for the taking?

"Whoa!" The startled noise left her before she could catch it as she was assaulted with the boil's tail wagging hard enough to knock her over. At least she had found the creepeteria. And he seemed to be happy.

A smile crept up on her face as she dusted her knees off a bit from getting to her hooves. He looked a little less intimidating now with him acting so eager for food. And, now that Damaris had a good sniff of the food here, she had to admit that she was a touch hungry.

"Well, here we are. Looks like they have a small line for grabbing stuff. Good thing since I guess there is a long assortment of food." Damaris tapped her index finger on her chin before shifting her gaze to the boil. He was staring at her.

The deer ghoul froze for a moment, blinking several times. Was he... waiting for her? Her contemplating expression moved into a smile before patting his arm again. "Here, we should get into the line before it gets any longer. It's short for now but you never know."

Rumbling in agreement, Wrex immediately went to lead them in.

And began pushing a few students forward in his eagerness.

It seemed for a moment as though his handler Damaris wasn't going to catch a break at, though luckily he backed off as soon as someone shoved him back. Silent assumed social courtesies went over his head; a nice push, however, was very easy to understand. He sheepishly returned to his place but continued to look around the students at what they were being offered today. Beyond a placement of Green Things That Was Probably Just Colorful Grass (the salad bar) was an assortment of edible delights, from today's selection of mini eyescream desserts to a slimy gelatin with what looked like pieces of brain within.

Say what he would about the place (or not, as Wrex was a quiet one), it definitely knew what a buffet was supposed to look like. Much better than fluffy things with angry handlers.

He nudged the ghoul roughly with his tail so that she kept up with him even at the slow crawl it was to get to their food, latching onto her now that she had proved to be an excellent guide. His clan wouldn't have approved (deer and all), but, well, his clan wasn't here, were they.

Unsurprisingly, Wrex filled his tray to the brim with every selection he could point to, and even then snuck an extra snack in by swiping a bag of chips as he moved past. The gruff treatment of his guiding tail didn't stop even after she got her food--and she would appreciate that, right, didn't' deer like being herded and stuff?--as he led them to the nearest available table space. Wrex promptly set the tray on it and leapt on top before digging in, face-first and eager.

This way going to be hard, for sure. Damaris was not one to shove or push, especially in a line or in public, at all. So when the boil began shoving past the students, she sort of found herself in a sort of stand off-ish situation that she didn't exactly know how to handle. But it seemed the circumstances from the other students would intervene.

With her hungry companion, he got pushed back towards her and she smiled as best she could to let him know that 'it was alright' that they couldn't get their food, directly, at that moment.

What she didn't expect was the corralling from the other with his tail. Had she been holding up the line? She must have. Damaris didn't struggle as she let herself be lead along the line of food.

Ahhh... This was her type of food. Greenery was her favorite. She picked up a rather full tray of greens, vegetables and a few fruits. Meat just... Wasn't her thing. But it apparently was her friend's. It was fine so long as he wasn't going to eat her.

"H-huh?" She felt the tail again guiding her along, once again. It was a good thing she had grabbed all that she had wanted to eat. Maybe she'd come back for dessert.

For having been a bit more than scary and intimidating when they first met, this boil seemed like he needed her help. Which was kind of... Nice. Normally it was the other way around. It was humbling to be needed for something. Even if it was for just finding food to keep the other from eating pets.

With her arms now full of leafy foods and succulent fruits and veggies, she followed with the large boil over to a table and took a seat beside him. The deer ghoul stared for a moment as she watched him devour his food with a hungry close to that of a starving beast. He must have been hungry.

"Damaris. That's... My name." She began munching on a rather large piece of lettuce before popping a mini tomato into her mouth. She really should have introduced herself earlier but she hadn't had much time to do so.

If he heard her at all, he didn't react to show it. Food was extremely important, especially with the haul he had managed. And just by pointing whatever he wanted for the food keepers to give to him! Amazing! It wasn't the same thrill as hunting and eating his own kill, but jackdamn if it wasn't something else to just get whatever the heck he wanted so easily! If he got Brute over here, they could make a killing--well, not a killing, but whatever.

Only when Wrex's face was nice and messy did he look up, blinking at the ghoul. It seemed to take a moment to process as he licked his lips and ragged his hands where the spills had occurred, licking those clean as well. (Waste not, want not.) Damaris could see him mouthing each syllable of her name several times before bobbing his head.

"Wrex," he offered in kind, and much like the noises he had been making, it sounded like a grunt. With his arms tucked to his chest like that, despite his aggressive behavior before, he now seemed a little shy. His gaze certainly was quick enough to drop back down to his mostly empty tray, where he began to pick up each plate and lick them clean. "New." If she couldn't tell by now.

Wrex... She nearly mistook it for another grunt but... It suited him. He was an interesting boil. Her parents would have kept her far, far, far away from him in fear of him swallowing her whole.

He was a little more gruff than she was used to and didn't speak all that much. And that was fine. Damaris tried not to speak too much but she seemed to have a bit of a problem in rambling when she got nervous or scared, as was evident earlier. But now that they both were sitting and eating, he didn't seem that scary anymore. Well... At least not now.

Wrex did really remind her of a young scareling but in a good way. Didn't care what others thought as he was nearly a complete mess! But she couldn't help another smile creeping up. At least he didn't waste anything.

"It's nice to meet you, Wrex." As frightful of a meeting that they had had. "I had figured but I... Didn't want to assume anything. I-I'm new too; I came from the village that had been covered in fog for a long time." She was certain that others from the village had done the same in coming here.

It was a shelter outside of the village and offered education. A look out into the world... She popped a few more tomatoes into her mouth to try and extinguish the anxious feeling in her gut. Change the subject in her mind.

"They do have good food here though..." She swallowed a piece of a sweet type of fruit. She wondered where most of them came from.

Village covered in fog? Wrex stopped trying to get his tongue to reach the food clinging to his chin and leaned forward, inching into Damaris' personal space while his nostrils flared. He hadn't noticed the scent before in his dire quest to get food--mostly he had only smelled that she was fresh meat, which didn't help--but now that his attention was a little less preoccupied, Wrex could catch the familiar smell of home on her.

He clapped his hands once in delight at finding a fellow villager, though it still looked strange with his arms still pinned to his chest. Granted, it was also strange to find someone so docile too. Wrex was more used to, well, all the aggro. Maybe her parents had been like his, flinging him here so that he'd get his instinct to dominate everything like the rest of the Daggerback Clan. (Since clearly the creatures here had to be weak enough even for him to take, right?) If so, well...good jackin' luck by the looks of it. Although the ghoul had taken a stance, so maybe she wasn't quite so preyish after all. Slightly less. Brute probably wouldn't believe him.

(He might have been staring at Damaris too long whoops.)

Removing himself from her space, Wrex returned to licking his plate clean--and then promptly began to nibble on the plate itself, breaking it off piece by piece as samples. Clearly he thought they served good food here as well. The plate, though, eh...Chalky. He still ate it anyway, just for pride's sake.

He did, however, keep eying Damaris' strange selection of foods. Greens, bleh, but hmm...Oversized berries maybe? He began to edge closer, pushing his tray precariously to the edge as he leaned in without bothering to ask to investigate.

Damaris hadn't expected the sudden leaning forward into her part of the table. But then again, Wrex seemed to be full of surprises.

She angled her shoulders and head back at the sudden intrusion but she didn't get too far. Was she being... Sniffed? Well, he did seem like the sort of boil to check her out in this sort of fashion. She had used her nose to help them get here so she figured it wasn't too outlandish. But... Did he had to be so close?

And staring straight at her face.

Her large pale brown eyes darted about, looking from her food to his tray that had been pushed aside for a moment back to Wrex's examining face. Did she had a bit of berry juice on her face? Was he re-thinking her for the next course for his meal? Did she smell bad? She didn't know!

A single clap of his hands, he seemed to lower back into his seat contently. That was... Different.

The deer ghoul assumed she was okay? Her shoulders visibly relaxed before she went about grazing her food a bit more. But she couldn't help her own staring at Wrex having taken an interest in eating his plate. "A-ah... I doubt that tastes good, Wrex." Her face changed into one of slight concern. She truly hoped he'd be okay later...

But with how he was edging back to her side of the table and eyeing her food, maybe she shouldn't have said anything. Well, it was only polite... "Would you like some? It's not very... Meaty but it's not bad." Damaris gathered several cubed pieces of a melon and a small tomato into her hand and held it out to him, a sort of strained smile spreading her lips upwards.

He grunted in affront, which suggested the plate therefore was good by virtue of her doubt alone, even as he smacked his mouth a bit and wiggled his tongue to clean the roof of his mouth for shards.

Then without warning, he snapped at her hands, nipping them as he scooped up everything offered and began to chew. Damaris was treated to several faces as the flavors mixed, intrigue and suspicion and then finally a very owlish blink.

"Weird," he announced, unaware of the ghoul's discomfort throughout it all.

Wrex wiped at his mouth with a hand next and eyed the reddish juice that had sprayed over his mouth and chin.

"Not blood," he added most importantly as he waved the hand around to clean it off. "Blech." He couldn't help but judge Damaris' poor choice of meal. How could this possibly live up to eating meat?
