Once again she was back at the gym, waiting at the entrance for some unsuspecting person to enter. A few already had, but all had rejected her offer to spar, one even cursing at her. She couldn't quite tell if it was her question that had warranted that reaction, or simply the boil's normal way of speaking.

No matter, she would not dwell on it. There were more fish in the sea, and she had every intention of catching one today; feeling quite pleased with herself for the metaphor, she almost missed noticing the reaper boil - but thankfully she did not, and with renewed purpose she moved towards her new victim.

"Greetings. Would you like to spar?"

Pelagion had gone to the gym, hoping to play with one of his boafoxes and get them exercised because that was just good for them, when he was called aside by an insistent reaper. Did he want to spar...? He supposed... All right. “Sure.” he said, putting down the boafox. It could exercise and play without him for a little bit. He summoned his sword and got a good grip on it. “Guess we go inside, huh.” This was, in actual fact, his first sparring match... and he found that he really wanted to do it...

"That would be wisest," the inside of the gym was made to resist attacks, after all. Leading the way inside and finding them a suitable spot, she turned back to face him.

"Who should start?"

Pelagion looked her over as they found a suitable spot. He thought for a moment. “You know, you look stronger than me.” he said flatly, “So, I don't know, I should probably go first.” It seemed like a reasonable thing to say... especially since this was his first ever EVER proper battle in this school. He would probably need every advantage he could get...

FEAR: Terror Flash (Double Take)
Using illusion magic, Pel can make his weapon indescribably terrifying, reflecting his foe's deapest-seated primal fears. This works like Phantasmal killer does in D&D (Without the killing part) in that its pretty much all in his target's head: he activates the ability, their brain does the rest. This also means that no deep-seated fears are revealed (unless they scream them out of course) because all he perceives is his sword in its normal – if creepy – form.

((Pelagion Attacks))

And, before the other reaper could find some way to change his mind, Pelagion attacked, swiping out with his sword to land a nice – if glancing – blow on her. He brought it back to a guard position, his cloak moving with his movements in such a way that it looked awesome.

It was awesome.

This had been a good idea.

She supposed it was flattering that he thought she was stronger than him, even if she thought it unlikely. Nodding to show her agreement though, she slid into her best defensive stance - it was quite stiff and perhaps not the most effective one, but this was how the diagram in the book had said it should be.

And then he attacked - the blow was not terrible, and in a fluid response she summoned her whip and lashed out at him, neatly aiming below his guard.

((Pelagion Attacks))

Ow... OW. Pelagion winced as he failed to block her attack. He attacked again, testing her a little, trying to be strategic and see how she would strike next. Wasn't that what his family always said to do, be strategic? Sometimes they had good advice – Pel figured he was putting that to the test.

They seemed to be fairly evenly matched, she noted, attempting a counter-attack of her own - only to miss her opponent's form entirely. She sighed; still she had trouble gauging where to aim on a target while she herself was in movement. But still, no matter - that was what sparring was for, to better oneself.

FEAR: Terror Flash (Double Take)
Using illusion magic, Pel can make his weapon indescribably terrifying, reflecting his foe's deepst-seated primal fears.

((Pelagion uses Terror Flash (Double Take!) ))

Her missed attack looked like a good opportunity to use his FEAR. Taking advantage of her distracted state, he got himself into position, angled his sword, and made it flash with illusion magic, sending an unformed spell shimmering through it to bring out and reflect her deep-seated primal fears and reflect it in the shining metal. Or whatever. It still looked like a sword to him but, it was their mind that did the rest and while Pel felt kinda bad for using it, she was a stranger and that was his FEAR and they were sparring so she'd just have to deal with it.

While she was distracted by whatever she saw in the sword, he attacked - once, twice - before falling back... only to see that he had done, basically, nothing.

Oh, well, at least his FEAR ability worked consistently? That was good to know...

Seeing as he'd used his Fear attack, she saw nothing wrong with using her's; giving the whip a crack on the floor, she summoned her signature blue fire and flayed into her opponent.

It was not the greatest attack ever done by someone, but it was quite alright, she reckoned.

((Pelagion Attacks))

"Fu...!" Pelagion fell back as he tried to block the flames... no dice! They ripped away at his Fear shield and hurt a great deal. But, well, hurting a bunch was expected since this was a sparring match, in the gym, and it was his first proper fight, so honestly Pelagion wasn't phased. He was, however, annoyed as his retaliation did, basically, nothing. What good was a big-a** sword, he thought, if he couldn't do anything with it?

"You're pretty good." he said. Though, he noticed that they were oddly matched in skill... Huh. Was she not a year up? She acted like it. Sounded like it. "What year are you, anyway?" sometimes it was best just to ask, right out of the gate...

"I have much to learn, still," Davyne replied, moving nimbly to his side and lashing out again with her whip. The attack connected and perhaps she was getting better at this moving and attacking thing after all; still, she knew that her words were true and she was only a novice in all things regarding battle. Her attempt to save her human had certainly proved that well enough.

"I am a first year, although I have been at school for some time." She did not ask what year he was in, for she was fairly certain she already knew.

((Pelagion Attacks))

"Oof!" Pelagion's attempt to block her whip with his armor ended up in massive failure. Well... not massive so much as achingly painful. Fighting hurt!

He figured she would know if she had more to learn, but... "You sure about that? You hit pretty hard." Then again, if she had been a Y1 longer than him, then that would... make some sense? Maybe? "Move pretty good too!" he said as his attack - a very good one - missed completely.

((Pelagion Attacks for 2 damage))

"Ah!" the sting of her whip sent a shock of cold fire up Pelagion's leg - he clearly needed more armor down there... what were his parent's telling him? Protect your weak points? He'd thought he was well garbed but, well...

Ow!

He retaliated, debating whether to play a more... defensive... game. But no, for now, the game was attack fast, and attack hard, and keep attacking until one of them wanted to pass out...

Right?

Yeah, that was totally not how it worked... he decided, as he connected with only a grazing blow. It was time for a plan...
