Within a dream is a dream till reality beckons a new one...
"Kasumi... awaken. Nassau has arrived"
Feverishly as her heart beat tremendously the daughter of the water stallion awakened. She had broken into a prickly sweat yet her memories refused to murmur what riled her emotions up so much. "He's here? Who's Nassau?!" she questioned her head feeling like it was trapped in a sea of continuous questions.
"Go to him, Kasumi"
"Him? Nassau" she breathed unsteadily that her dreams had been so vivid yet so misleading. Now her ears swiveled catching the sound of the waves, a chorus of something different among them. Stumbling out into the light she squinted leaving the grotto in a daze. Now echoing in her mind she spoke silently his name letting it slid gracefully off her parched tongue. The waves never lied in all her time she had called this paradise home. So many wonderful things the sea delivered to her leaving the most precious her twins. Now her hooves carried her to the edge of the grassland as to mingled with the soft sands sliding inward around her hooves. Momentarily, she paused looking down over the sandy beach for this ghost the waves whispered so vividly. This Nassau they whispered, who was he she pondered her mind a mish-mash-melee of a thousand questions. Scanning again she saw something standing in the distance. Immediately, her heart stopped as did her rattled breath leaving her to wonder was it a mirage or were the waves sending her to meet her destiny.
Moving once more she stumbled in the sand deeper curious but nervous to meet her future. Her boys were gifts of the sea, from some far off land her dreams nearly slide along the surface of never revealing the full truth.
Now her hooves moved in deeper leaving strength to carry her through. Nearly to the shore, she stopped her heart caught in a vice that strangled her throat. He stood there his back to her her battered and bruised as his form stayed eerily quiet just gazing outward at Mother Ocean. At first glance, she pondered him one of the twins just gazing out into the endless waters but after fully looking her was much taller than her boys. Flicking her curly tail she moved inward toward him, steadily, carefully, in case of him being spooked. The closer she neared him the more battered she could see the stallion had become bleeding in various areas though most were healed since he had arrived from the heart of the Ocean. He was so much taller in stature built like the twins aquatic in nature yet he was seemingly different. Breathing in his scent she knew he had traveled forever following the waves as they lead her to him. He seemed so tired and yet his stature remained strong in her eyes. He truly was a Protector as her dreams had mentioned yet they never let her know who he was.
A small smile curved her muzzle as she stepped boldly up behind him, her soft voice finally unhindered she spoke, Welcome Nassau, I've, no we've been expecting you". It seemed so easy to say it with him standing there, hair wild and blowing in the sea breeze. Just like her father he gave her hope as she waited for him to face her as her destiny finally would look her in the eyes.

Her presence appeared in his dreams walking slowly in a daze from a dream. Simplicity yet a heart, soul, and mind conceived of everlasting sea and sky from the breath of a mother who became gentle or cruel all in the same. He felt displaced when the waves begged him to face her; fear that reality was uncouth in its drastic demands. Still though in his strength he was weak seeking solace in a dream he'd ever fathom would hold his heart like... she did. Truth be told his love's image was etched deep in his heart, yet she was a filter the stallion could never break through. Swimming endlessly, he felt numb within trying to grasp the memories fading that he captured so vividly a minute ago. A beautiful island, simply erased from life with everyone within.
Then in a moment of silence, he willed his hooves, legs, body to move slowly and faced her.
Time stopped as simplicity reached his senses yet she was much more than that. Without a doubt, he knew her scent, name, and everything about her without saying a word. Nostrils taking in his surroundings the stallion knew deep within those eyes cradled by depth he had found his love again. Even if my chance she was another generation, a timid soul within she was still the one he sought vividly letting the sea carry him to her. Mesmerizing.
Words swam inward yet the water child of Mizu was a remembrance of the depths sun filtered in gently leaving a softness in its path. A rocking motion soothing his heart as he gazed inward of her coat reflecting waves of her family bloodline. Yet in her serenity, she held light ringed around her legs; a ripple of hope in the depths much like her blue eyes. Her mane and tail carried a semblance to water itself free flowing as the breeze lifted her loose tresses playing endlessly in an ebb and flow. Though his mind became descriptive he could never truly describe this mare, for water was endless in depth and perception.
Muscles moving in his muzzle he finally spoke in spite of the lingering dream he felt safe within, "I have finally found you... Kasumi".
Words were spoken softly filled with more confidence now as his legs suddenly became weak bringing pain swiftly to his feet. Caving unwillingly he succumbed to the fatigue he fought against swimming in the tides. His vision leaving her behind as his closed in spite of the fight he continued to grasp. It was simply too much as his voice muttered, "I'm sorry". Leaving her behind his senses faded leaving deep breaths in his wake. Lingering merely on the surface of consciousness he fell into a dream hoping she was not part of.

Trembling she waited for eyes to meet her proving dreams could be a reality. Endless time passed as he stood there willing himself to move facing a dream he so valiantly chased.
Then he turned pools of serenity, everlasting memories flowing into her own. Such brightness with hardship mirrored in a pool of mystery leaving her to fathom his own thoughts currently. He seemed lost in thought yet she knew instantly he was etching her profile in his mind. In truth, she followed suit drinking in his huge form never straying from each scale that represented him respectively. His markings reminded her of the sea swirling endlessly then turning direction following the same. Literal words couldn't fathom his uniqueness standing idly upon her beach. His mane was wild-swept leaving her imagination to grasp it had a soul within those battle soaked strands. Much like her twins he carried the unique tail of the sea able to tread endless hours in a place she never could much like her father. Silently, her muses traveled to the depths trying to picture her aunt living there. Harmony swaying as she moved smoothly through the ocean. Her mind traveling a thousand waves just now you'd think she had the mindset of her father. Then the sole reasoning of transfixed thoughts nudged her as she stared into the Sea herself pooled in those deep eyes shimmering back at her. Reflection of awareness settled with him yet something buried deep she noted suffering as he blinked.
Thoughts starting her she flinched when his voice was captured in her sensitive ears. Her name releasing from his lips giving a feeling of reassurance bottled deep inside him. It nurtured her delicately, securely knowing it wasn't all a dream. Though her smile never surfaced in plain sight she beamed within that calm exterior gazing upon him.
Then her world crashed much like her dreams of the island as his legs once strong folded beneath him. It was so sudden her literal expression became that of fear, eyes widening abruptly leaving her solace behind. Leaving out a cry of despair she moved quickly to his side blowing out softly in concern, "I'm sorry. You must be so exhausted, Nassau". His name she knew instantly if not from her vivid dreams that woke her in tears. Helpless to do anything craning her head down, her cheek slid gently along his own. It moved her emotionally as tears wet his face falling from those concerned pools of her own. "What can I do? You collapsed where the tides will steal you away". Still being mid-day she didn't fret too much about the tides coming in but, her worriment came from the sun drying out his skin with no way to submerge in the salty waters. Then something triggered deep within bringing her to her senses,
Moving swiftly she galloped up the hill to the grotto yanking down a burlap bag filling it with containers, medicines, and other much-needed items. Heading outside she galloped down to his side dropping the bag as her hooves carried her to the rolling somber waves. Dipping her head she gathers water filling it as far as possible returning to him wetting down his shiny fur. Repeatedly, she followed this routine leaving no time for procrastination. Once he was soaked down she took a glance at the cut in his shoulder frowning, Then pulling out the herbal leaves she wetted earlier Kasumi placed them on the wound letting the mud intertwined soak deep beginning the crucial healing. Once she was satisfied her own legs gave way falling beside him, not in exhaustion but compassion. Resting her head on his shoulder she waited for Nassau to awaken before the tides set in later that night.

Nassau.
A voice spoke softly yet forgiving as orbs of exhaustion pooled into focus. Murky firsthand things blended vibrant as a cool breeze kissed a friendly welcome. The island whispered reassurance as no tragedy lingered within any radiance. Perhaps it was merely an illusion seeing everything set in memory, rather real.
Nassau?
Blinking his mind settled around the softness of a Queen's beauty as she blew softly in concern. He noticed turmoil in those placid pools that signed him out. She was beautiful, a vision to behold in a royal guard's eyes. His love ran deep for someone he could never take as his own despite her losing a mate in the great war.
Nassau you're scaring me. Please wake up.
"I'm right here" he murmured collapsing before her, "I'll never let anything happen to you, my Queen Lusca". His words genuine, Nassau stretched his muzzle out to her, "I am your guard, always your protector" he continued feeling weaker,
"Nassau. My valiant one. No, you must go back to her and the twins. You no longer need to protect me... Go to them!
A torrent crashed inward as she blurred in front of him leaving nothing but a shadow causing him to cry out in despair, "My Queen"!
Water rushed around him violently, submerging his thoughts, drowning his reality till his breath grew frigid. Was this his demise he queried as his tired legs pulled him away from the island, darkness taking hold. All he knew was he had to find "Kasumi" for she would forever fill his broken heart. Queen Lusca was gone like a vision scraped over the unknown. Pushing through that dark current his mind went numb seeking the light that would forever keep him stable; a rock with purpose.
Nassau? Please wake up. Please...
Her voice was so soft, like a rocking current in an endless ocean cradling his inhibitions as he slowly became aware of his surroundings. The air growing cooler as it slowly skimmed over his wet silken fur alerted Nassau he was no longer in the ocean, drowning. Rather, he was lying upon the beach where his mind began, Kasumi dozing by his side caused a genuine smile as he leaned into her.
The sun barely lingered above the clouds settling inward for its time of rest. Ears flicking back and forth heard the swells of the ocean approach. Soon the tide would grace the beach bringing new wonders and danger unknown. He didn't want to move her as she slumbered by his side. He blinked raising his head slowly noting the containers she had filled to keep him hydrated. This mare was foretold in his future to be the one by his side. In his eyes, she would be his queen raising the twins. For now, though her breathing let his soul stay placid. Soon he'd have to awaken her, but, not just yet...

Her mind wavered then completely just darkened leaving a soul floating endlessly just inches from the sea. Nassau was still immobile leaving her to muster little courage to rouse herself strong enough to pull him far along the upper beach. His coat would take a barren approach eventually which in Kasumi's eyes would be uncomfortable. She grunted feeling water surround them both, panicking to in movement to free themselves of being consumed by the Sea herself. Crying out water enveloped them both leaving her to sputter then gasp for breath. Thinking deeply her thoughts and motivation sank as her own strength could no longer keep her head above the greedy saltwater itching to devour her. Further, she weighted downward feeling helpless as Nassau vanished from her sight.
"No..." her voice gurgled as her decent to the bottom of the Sea seemed endless. Everything she had managed was lost in her mind which swirled in fear, yet perfect silence if one could hear it. What would become of her adopted boys who relied on her even in their adulthood she wondered. Sliding downward, her body fell till her hooves touched the gritty surface of the sand realizing she was still alive. Moving her head in a fluid motion she looked upward as the moon descended down through the crystalline deep.
Kasumi....
The mare's ears flickered hearing a faint sound, her name spoken clearly underwater. When she opened her mouth only bubbles appeared pulling themselves upward toward the flickering of the strong moonlight through the gentle sea. Seeking out the light she began walking toward the illuminating glow that radiated warmth. The further she walked the warmer the water around her entire being gave a promise.
Close your eyes and breath deeply....Kasumi...
Perhaps the spirits were being mischevious leaving brightness in her wake that was merely a dim residue for reality. In essence though with some hope, she followed her instructions wondering very little for her presence was lost to the upper world. Breathing inward she poised herself to begin drowning without any hesitation.
Now, open your eyes child...
Suddenly, she noted her surroundings left her on an island that was incredibly beautiful. Standing idle she noted someone walking toward her. "Is this the spirit Realm? Have I passed on and left my boys to fend for themselves? Nassau... I lost him to the tides I...." the soft-spoken blue mare felt broken lost without any reassurance. "I failed haven't I?"
No... You've only just begun little one. You are are not dead nor have you lost. Your future is waiting...
She tilted her head focusing on the mare before her glowing in an ethereal display of benevolence. "Nassau. He is my future and my boys. Wait..." she spoke blinking widely, "You're the mother of my boys aren't you?" Her question was strangely direct toward the light-demanding information.
"Yes... But, your questions will be answered in due time. The tide is coming in. hurry..
"Hurry?!" she sputtered as the light faded and she was lying on the beach with Mizu. Blinking again, she rose to her feet noting the bright Moonlight, "Nassau.... please don't let the sea claim you again. Awaken so we may escape...".
She nudged him in a panicked state yet her voice was soft as the rocking waves, "Nassau"?
As the first lumbering wave stretched out its nimble fingers she heard him groan then speak, "I will never let the sea claim that who I will forever protect". Her eyes gazing at him as strength returned once more. Rising to his feet his tall form leaned into her, Nodding she followed in-suite leading him toward the grotto.
Mind still a blur with questions her inner voice wondered if she was dreaming still or reality just wasn't sitting with her in an odd perspective. Once she rested again maybe Nassau could help her. For the time being, they both were spared of death as tired hooves in unison reached the grotto.
