Joleen and Hyweth

Name: Joleen
Age: 24
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank: Greenrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman (woman) Harper
Physical Description: Joleen has long brown hair that she has difficulty controlling. She often has to brush it back out of her eyes or ends stick up where they ought not to. Her eyes are brown, she freckles. She's thin and short, her hands are nimble but calloused from playing guitar.
Personality: Joleen has always been studious, even as a young girl. Being quick to learn, and having easily picked up the teaching tunes the hold harper was teaching the children over at Trine Hold. She quickly became one of the journeyman harper's favorites. Even as a young girl, however, she was always in a rush to get things done. She wants to reach the goal as soon as she starts a project, causing her to be rather slap-dash. She'll leave one thing if it isn't finished in the amount of time she's set and start on the next project. She sets goals to be done by a certain date, and when she fails to reach the goal, she leaves the current project and starts a new one. Joleen usually returns, in time, to her original project.

Joleen is not the nicest person. She tends to be independent; she wants to be left alone, she doesn't want pity, she doesn't want help. She's not above bribing people into leaving her alone if they get too obnoxious. Not quite antisocial, Joleen has few friends and fewer enemies (according to her, anyway). She attempts to keep herself hidden in crowds and her head down unless she's teaching or spending time with her beloved Hyweth.

Joleen avoids talking much in front of other people. It isn't that she's unable to; she's wonderful at speaking, she simply doesn't like to. She prefers to observe and convey feelings with actions rather than words.

Around children, she's a completely different person. Or almost. The grudgingly gregarious nature she had as a candidate and a younger harper shows itself. She is gentle with weyr brats and (certain) candidates than most of the surrounding people in the Weyr. She extends this gentleness, this love, to her dragon. Her social life is thus most active when he is near children. Her voice becomes gentler, and she'll tell stories of how Pern was long ago. She may be only twenty four turns old, but the young woman is well read from having spent many years in the Harper Hall. She feels that by teaching and inspiring children, she can somehow make up for her past failures.

This dragonrider, despite usual harper reputation, does not seem to know how to handle romantic advances. She finds love desirable, and she hopes to find the person for her eventually, but like the hopes she had while she was younger, she may start doubting her ability to find them. Failing to reach various small goals she's set for herself has made her self-esteem all but vanish, and at times, feels that people should not wish to be around her. Generally reassured by Hyweth, these thoughts are short lived and usually do not interfere with day-to-day life.

Joleen has never gotten along with (most) candidates, for obvious reasons. They're loud. They're obnoxious. They ask too many sharding questions! In fact, she may attempt to avoid them, if at all possible.
History:

History: Joleen, rider of green Hyweth, was once Journeyman Joleen, of the Harper Hall; she was born a holder in Highreaches, but was quick in her lessons delivered by a hold-harper. The harper in question saw the girl's potential, and a few turns afterward, took the then twelve turn old girl to the Hall where she was bundled with other apprentices. Her initial specialty was singing, and though she tried her hand at various instruments, time after time she came up against enough difficulty to put her more or less off focusing on them. Her skills at playing quickly outstripped her ability to build them, and a lingering wariness of failure led to her searching for other areas of her training to focus on and excel in.

Eventually she realized that what she enjoyed most, what she could actually do, was teach. Old songs, history, singing...of course she could not teach others to make instruments when she could not master it herself, but she had enough knowledge that she could easily begin to specialize as a teacher. And just in time, too. A turn or two later, now an 18-turn-old herself, she was called to walk the tables and become a journeyman.

Succesfully reaching that goal gave her a boost in confidence, and she embraced a chance to move to a nearby hold to teach their children teaching tunes. Enough of that confidence had lingered that when a dragonrider came to call and searched her out a few months later, she went for it. Weyr children needed teaching tunes too, she figured, and with the added chance to impress? Who could pass that up.

Unfortunately, being left standing at her first hatching punctured her ego somewhat. She'd set the goal to impress for herself, and though the candidatemaster made firm that she hadn't failed by not being picked, in her mind she had. The next hatching was nearly a turn later, and now 19, she struggled to see dragonet after dragonet make a choice that wasn't her.

Then, at last (long, long last, she felt!) a small, almost fully buried egg exploded into her new partner.

Mine! You look terrible. Come, we must amend this. I am Hyweth, Joleen, I will make sure you look your best, always.
Talents: Joleen has some skill with pipes and guitar. She sings and teaches

DRAGON
Name: Hyweth
Age: Five
Color: Green
Size: 26'
Physical Description: Physical Description: Awaiting image to describe
Personality: Personality: Hey, Hyweth caught you looking at her! She wasn't imagining it, and no, you weren't mistaken. She is the best looking dragon in the Weyr, thank you very much. Taking on traits that are often displayed in the larger dragons maybe more often than greens, this dragon is one vain gal! Truly an understatement, Hyweth knows she could save Pern--if only she wasn't so lazy.
At least, that's the impression she likes to pull off. If other dragons think she's a lazy, vain, selfish dragon, they won't bother her so much. Hyweth hates answering questions, but even more than that, she seems to hates responsibility. She certainly doesn't envy golds their positions in life. Truly, Hyweth is an insecure dragon (she's not insecure about her own abilities!) and is prone to strange fears. It will be up to her rider to reassure her.
Being a vain dragon, Hyweth is probably not one Joleen would like to take when purchasing new clothes. Oh, the green has fine taste! Exquisite taste. Only--a rider can't expect her dragon to understand that marks aren't always readily available. No, she can't purchase that brocade gather tunic. No, she won't wear it for flying. If Hyweth had her way, Joleen would always be down to her last quarter-mark. The burden of being the best looking dragon in the entire Weyr means that Hyweth must have the best rider in all the Weyr. Hyweth seems to believe that if Joleen is not dressed properly, others will judge her based on her rider's appearance.
Like with her rider's appearance, Hyweth is very concerned about her own! Hyweth likes to look her best at all times, so Joleen best be prepared to give her plenty of baths and oilings!
Joleen best be careful! If not tactful when concerning Hyweth's feelings; especially when speaking about the dragon's over all appearance, this crimson tends to be hyper emotional. She tends to pose, in attempt to look as best as possible when anyone is near, whether they be dragon or human.
When it comes to mates, Hyweth is selfish as they come. She considers herself a great asset to the Weyr, and the one dragon she's interested in (Hatteth) belongs to her. She will not tolerate him participating in others' flights, and will become very angry should he do so. Joleen will have to be watchful during this time, right before a flight, or even after.

Hyweth can be long winded! When addressed by authority, she has the tendency to wrap others in words, perhaps hoping to lose them in the blather. She usually means no, however long it takes him to say it. She does not do well with authority figures. Hyweth would much rather be doing her own thing. She often reminds her rider, that though Joleen considers himself a loner, there's no reason Hyweth should be. Joleen needs to get out there! To meet a handsome man and have him sweep her off her feet. Hyweth will help. Really!

Hyweth does not like being thought of as a nice dragon. She is, invariably, kind to her rider (whom she loves most dearly, but naturally, she will never admit this). She argues, she pokes fun; within her arguing however, is always a spark of affection. People would know if Hyweth didn't like them. She would not bother to even glance their way.

L'mul and Stariath

Name: L'mul, Born Olianmul
Age: 46 turns
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: High Reaches Weyr
Rider Rank:  Greenrider, Weyrsinger
Previous Rank/Craft: Journeyman Harper
Physical Description: L'mul has dark brown hair with strands of silver. His eyes are blue, and he has laugh lines around them. This man seems to always be smiling. He's got a tall, thick sort of build, towering over most of his peers. He's tan and bearded, which has red strands in it. His hands are calloused from playing his guitar so often.
Personality: "Hi Hungry, I'm Dad," seems to be a phrase that suits this Weyrsinger. L'mul loves corny jokes almost as much as he loves the music he plays. He loves sharing music and knowledge with the younger set. He seems to get along with just about anyone.

He is rather flighty. Things that are happening in his life now are infinitely more important than things that have happened in the past, and sometimes in the future. The current happenings of life distract him from plans; much like caring for his dragon had distanced him from friends during his youth. He finds that he can focus on the short-term; he's begun to work on becoming a master during his spare time. Lial, also, seems to have this sort of focus. The boy won't always be five turns old. He needs bigger clothes, more books, someone to teach him all the things he couldn't.

L'mul loves people! He loves being around them, sharing his stories and listening to their's. There's always something someone didn't see, something someone else saw differently.

He spends a large amount of time entertaining the Weyr's children. He will happily sing rounds of teaching tunes at their request. He plays their favorites, but will also take the time to chat with them.

L'mul is a bit of a romantic. He loves to see romance bloom among the youth; it reminds him of the first time he saw Owara. About once every two sevendays, L'mul likes to surprise his mate with a gift. It might be something small and edible, it might be something more substantial, it might be a song.
History: L'mul was born Olianmul to holders at Fort; they were moderately wealthy and had the boy apprenticed to the harperhall as soon as he was old enough. He was well into his lessons at fifteen turns when he was Searched. It wasn't an intentional one; the rider hadn't come on search. His firelizard, he'd said, had taken off with his Weyrmate's guitar and stolen the strings from it! He'd asked for the teenager's advice on purchasing a new guitar--or, as Olianmul had suggested, simply replacing the strings.

It had been the rider's dragon who declared they would be taking the boy back to the Weyr with them.

He impressed the very first time he stood; but the dragons weren't the only thing that had caught his eye. There was a pretty girl, maybe a turn older or younger than he, and Olianmul thought she was beautiful. Owara was her name, he'd heard, and he quickly befriended her. He'd had to continually remind Stariath that she was more beautiful, though, and the Weyrling pair was soon distracted from his fancies. Dragonets were hard enough to care for without their partner looking to see if a certain someone was watching.

Stariath grew, and so did the distance between he and Owara. His family had relocated to Southern Boll, so during his spare time, he was often there. It was there, at twenty eight turns old that he thought he'd fallen in love. There was a weaver; but once that night ended, so did the relationship. At least, until he got word that she was pregnant. L'mul was thrilled. He arrived in Southern Boll as soon as he received word, telling the woman he'd take her to High Reaches Weyr as his mate; where they could both provide for the boy. That day had been the first time L'mul had cried tears of joy, and tears of sorrow in the same few candle marks.

She rejected his offer, and kept the boy with her as was proper. L'mul visited every chance he got. He loved Rhey; but the boy was timid and he struggled to relate. Poor lad. He'd so wanted him raised in the Weyr. He wouldn't have flinched at Stariath's size, then.

L'mul did his best to become close with his son. He sent letters, he visited often, he asked for regular updates. But, he fell in love again. He became reacquainted with Owara. The shyness of weyrling-relationship rules was gone. Three turns after meeting with her again, he asked her to be his mate. They had a son, five turns later--and then, happily, seventeen turns after the birth of his first born, Rhey was finally Searched! Finally. L'mul couldn't have been prouder. The chance to really get to know Rhey made everything else seem muted, even dulled. Nothing else was as important.
Other:

DRAGON
Name: Stariath
Age: 30
Color: Green
Size: 18'
Physical Description:
Personality:
There's no place like home. None. Stariath knows this! Where she can be with L'mul is her home, wherever that may be. In the sky, in the water, in their weyr with Owara. This dragon understands the connection between L'mul, Owara and their hatchling and she reacts to it appropiately. She will happily look after any young ones that come near--but especially Lial. She is endlessly patient and loving towards all, seeming to have a docile temperment. Gentle and warm like the rays of the afternoon sun, she is open to all.

They may not recieve the same amount of love and care towards her rider. After all, L'mul is the one Stariath chose. The great amount of love she has for her rider knows no bounds. She will happily do anything L'mul asks. Or believes L'mul will ask. Private wishes aren't private when one has a nosy dragon.

If ever L'mul needed a pick me up, Stariath knows just what to do. She will quite cheerfully tell L'mul all about the glorious things her rider hasn't seen. Does her rider see the sun? It has a beautiful color to it today. The moon? It has a ring of changing colors around it. The sky is a beautiful blue! They should go flying! Or go play with Lial. Or maybe sing for the youngsters in the dining area.

This tiny green never gives up. She knows she'll get better. She constantly hopes for the best; bathing L'mul and anyone nearby with her never ending optimism

N'var and Licerth

Name: N'var (Born Navarian)
Age: twenty six
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: Western
Rider Rank: Brown rider
Previous Rank/Craft: Weavercraft
Physical Description: N'var is relatively short and somewhat stocky. He lacks muscular definition. His hair is a dark, coppery red, and he has freckles on his face and arms. His eyes are blue.
Personality: N'var learned the value of a mark early on, and though he didn't realize his parents' monetary problems until he was older, he became thrifty. He grew up among weavers in the crafthall, and it wasn't hard to convince one of the apprentices to make a whirligig with leftover string and a button. It wasn't hard to keep him entertained in his youth, and isn't now, even into his adulthood. He's usually pretty happy! He laughs easily and tries to see the best in everyone.

It's different when it comes to his family. His sister, Nyssa, was sickly for most of their youth and most of his parents' attention was on her. He felt shorted. He felt less loved. It was hard for him to feel as if he had to strive to get any bit of encouragement or praise. He can be jealous; it pains him to think of time gone by. It seems strange now, how angry he was. How important his parents' opinions were to him.

Most of the time, N'var is very much like a flame, warm, playful, and energetic. He has a kind heart and tends to be friendly. Maybe too friendly. He probably was the student getting in trouble for talking too much during classes. Or for drawing while the master was talking. He was the kid who got in trouble for talking to strangers. He just doesn't see the point in being around people if he can't talk to them. He likes to do things his own way, and he has an adventurous heart.

He is fairly gullible. He believes everything. If you told him he had a stain on his shirt, he'd look down; even if he had just put it on.

Of course, if you play with fire, you're going to get burnt. You don't want to make N'var angry; it's a slow burn that can last turns, as his family has seen. He holds grudges once he's been hurt.

He likes to try new things, but really, N'var is a creature of habit. He goes to drills, he does what he needs to, he draws Licerth under the same tree outside their weyr. Speaking of drawing; he seems to have an artistic air about him; he loves to draw, and will draw on every given surface. He used to love showing these pieces of art off, but recently has withdrawn and begun to share only with those closest to him. Particularly with his sister, Nyssa.

He's grown closer to her in the past few turns. Without their parents, the siblings seem to get along better; not that he ever resented her.
History: N'var was born Navarian, to weavers in the craft hall. His parents weren't altogether wealthy, but during Gathers they did especially well. It was the inbetween times when they'd have to pull together and ration their funds. As a child, Navarian never realized how hard his parents worked for their marks. He was the apple of their eye, and he was so proud to be their son.

Things changed when he was six turns old. His sister, Nyssa was born, and their attention seemed to shift. No longer was every drawing he provided them with admired. They didn't seem to have time for him. He was always being reminded to be quiet and not to wake the baby. Or, when the baby was awake, they were busy entertaining or feeding her.

It was hard for him then, but it only seemed to get worse as time went on. Nyssa was sickly as a child, and N'var, needing encouragement, sought praise for doing well in their craft. He learned to embroider, and while he wasn't particularly good at it, how to sew. N'var always assumed he was less loved than his sister, but as children do, he failed to see the bigger picture. He was an independent child who seemed to do his own thing; his parents trusted him and believed him strong enough to find his own way. His sister's sickliness had them scared. They worried after her continually, and failed to see their son needed their praise just as much.

N'var was never bitter towards his younger sister, but he did feel slighted. He'd been the center of attention for six turns, and it was hard to remember that when he felt he'd been shoved to the side. He grew closer to her as they grew up, but never seemed to regain that love from his parents. After a few turns, the boy stopped trying.

He took an interest in art at an early age, preferring to draw rather than to practice his craft. That was how he met the Searchrider. He'd gone to white his charcoal to a sharper point; and the rider, amused to see a teenager with black hands, came to talk to him. He spoke of his home back in Western Weyr, and eventually, invited him to come with him.

N'var was so pleased, he'd forgotten that his sister was feeling poorly as he rushed to tell his parents. When he wasn't immediately congratulated, he was hurt. He packed a few things and headed outside, only to be met by his sister. He gave her a hug and promised he'd write at least twice a sevenday. The searchrider was waiting for him.

If N'var thought he'd Impress the first time he stood, he was sorely disappointed. He didn't Impress until the fourth time he stood, and by then, he was planning what life would be like if he didn't Impress. He'd have to go back. He'd have to work on becoming a journeyman, and maybe eventually a Master weaver. He'd invited his parents and sister to this hatching, though. Nyssa was finally well enough to be able to go between. He hoped he'd Impress a Bronze. He felt a Bronze, at least, would impress his family.

Instead, the boy'd found himself knocked to the hot sands by a brown.

Bronze? Bronze?! No, mine. We are better than any of these here. Now, come! Prove your strength to Licerth! N'var had never felt such joy. A dragon had chosen him! His dragon! And his parents were watching. Did they see? Were they proud?

It wasn't long lived, the hope that his parents were finally seeing him. A hatchling started trying to push itself into the stands, seemingly calling for someone. To N'var's immediate upset, it was calling to his sister. A brown, calling to his sister! She hadn't even been searched! It wasn't FAIR! He'd finally gotten the chance to have his parents see him, the first time in fourteen turns, and somehow, unintentionally, she'd stolen it. He didn't blame her, not really. He knew her dragon would have gone between if she hadn't been there--but why? Why had it been that hatching?

Some part of him was glad his sister was at the Weyr with him. He'd missed her in the turns he'd been away; and he was truly delighted to see that she'd overcome what had ailed in her their youth.

Licerth grew, and so did the brown's ego; while N'var's mellowed. He forgave his parents for slighting him, and began writing them every couple sevendays. Four turns after graduating, Thread fell and panic bubbled up in him. His family, were they safe? Shards! His sister was a dragonrider! She'd be facing Thread along with him instead of staying safe somewhere made of stone.

Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name: Licerth
Age: six turns
Color: Brown
Size: 35'
Physical Description: Using Starter pack brown, thank you so much MH!
Personality:How about making a deal with Licerth? He delights in arguments! Especially those with his rider. It is difficult to get him to show outward signs of approval, though inwardly he may admit to himself the value of something or someone's varying opinion. From the moment he hatched no one was safe from his snippiness and cutting wit; for despite his complaints Licerth is an excellent speaker. It may not be uncommon for him to leave a conversation with the other dragon staring after him. Never argue with Licerth, because he can twist his words and the meaning of words. Beware!

On top of his attitude, Licerth is stubborn. When he makes his mind up about something, he sticks to it. Only his rider could convince him otherwise.

No one can best him in a challenge of wits and words (in his opinion!): he considers his mind to be his private domain and is jealously possessive of his right to have an opinion. He may have a terrible time making friends. For one thing, his first impression is almost always set as long as his memory lasts- if he decides he doesn't like you, it's best to wait until he forgets why he didn't like you in the first place. He's not malicious, despite the fact that he's unpleasant. Rather, he is almost always condescendingly amused and cynical: a patronizing critic observing the antics of lesser mortals from his elevated pedestal.

If as a hatchling Licerth was stubborn, as an adult he has mellowed down to a quiet slyness that seems to permeate the air around him. Only in the most tender moments with his rider does this aura leave him and reveal the love that he is capable of feeling. To all outsiders, meaning everyone but his, Licerth may present an abrasive, somewhat obnoxious face. Wherever he goes, Licerth loves to stir up a bit of conflict - for entertainment purposes.

Unsurprisingly, Licerth is unlikely to be a very popular dragon. Dragons who admire his talent, who praise him may in fact gain his affection. He does so like to be told he's nice! However, he will never show the same care and devotion that he shows his bonded to anyone else.

Any flights he joins will be for the thrill of the chase. There is very little give and take in these relationships, however. He pays little to no attention to his flight mates before and after; if necessary he will attempt to drive them away.

Licerth is quite often entertained by the antics of his rider. Especially when it comes to relationships. While Licerth is abrassive and will rid himself from potential mates when not caught up in the wave of instinct that hits during a flight, is the opposite. Licerth may tease N'var for his behavior--attempting to charm people. N'var is lucky human females do not rise to mate. There would be no end to Licerth's affectionate teasing.

T'rel and Tyalith

Name: T'rel (born Tarel)
Age: twenty two turns
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Tyila sexual (Heterosexual)
Weyr: High Reaches
Rider Rank: Greenrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice Harper at the Weyr
Physical Description: T'rel has thick golden curls that seem to contrast with his narrow facial features. He has large brown eyes like the color of klah. His skin has a certain pallor to it, but it isn't one that makes him unseemly nor enough that he appears sickly. In fact the man, despite his thin build, has a certain air to him. He has a flare for charm, though he could hardly be considered handsome. He has an upturned nose and boyish features altogether. His fingers were once thin and nimble, but now thick and caloused from playing stringed instruments. He has grown into once too long legs as he aged.
Personality: Being a harper, Tarel has a certain love for news. Unwittingly, he has become a source of gossip for those he considers friends. He is an avid talker; and will assume friendship with almost anyone he meets. He tends to be gullible and though he is constantly warned not to trust everything he hears, he tends to do just that. He wants to see the good in people more than anything else, sometimes failing to see reality. Trusting and open to a fault, it is quite likely that once he is started talking, one would not be able to stop him until he gave his entire life's story--with great dramatic effect. He is fond of telling stories, and with the addition of a dragon or two, a beautiful daughter of a Lord Holder, and a quick mind, Tarel believes he can make any story interesting.

One thing that must be known about Tarel is that he is a flirt. A terrible, dramatic flirt at that. He finds great pleasure acting as if he takes everything to heart; bringing much more emotion into a situation than is needed. He never seems to care much who he's flirting with; as long as they are human, and female. Due to this, Tarel has a very--well--inflated view of himself. He believes he is Pern's gift to well, everyone, and so, spends most of his free time with people when not practicing his guitar. His great flaw is definitely in that he's vain.

He genuinely cares about what other people think about him. If he feels that someone does not like him, he will confront them, perhaps to inquire as to why. With his mindset as it is, he will not willingly admit to having any flaws; and thus possibly does not see when he upsets others. He is sensative and has a need to be accepted by all; though he generally expects them to due to his vanity. It upsets him greatly when he discovers that someone does not enjoy his company; he is most certainly an attention seeker, and will at all times, strive to be the center of attention.

He tends to be clumsy, animatedly talking with his hands--which often leads to something falling or--well. It usually ends up with the boy apologizing profusely in both cases, hoping he didn't cause a bruise.

Despite his flaws, Tarel respects authority; especially those on dragonback. Though he wouldn't admit it, his greatest wish is to join their ranks and become a rider. The stories he heard growing up as an apprentice harper appealed to him as a child; and the freedom they seemingly have is one he only dreams of.
History: Tarel was born to Antara and G'non, but his mother died only a few seven days after his birth due to infection. He was taken in by the crèche when his father couldn't be located. At around two turns old, he was fostered by two loving parents, but in truth he was closest to his sister Ashlyn.

A few turns later, he discovered a half brother, Ionan. The screaming infant didn't impress the right turn old, but their relationship became better as Ionan grew. Once he'd learned to talk, Tarel had decided he rather liked having a brother, even if he did still make a lot of noise.

They grew closer as time went by. Tarel began studies with one of the weyr harpers. He showed promise with stringed instruments, but not singing. He was taken on as the man's apprentice until he was old enough to become a candidate. At fourteen turns, Tarel was encouraging Ionan the entire time. He ought to pursue things, when he got old enough.

At the age of sixteen, Tarel finally impressed. He'd grown up around dragons, being a Weyrbrat, and he'd always, always loved them. When Tyalith had greeted him during the hatching, he didn't think it was real. The tiny green had had to go up to him, nudging him. Mine! Tarel! Pay attention! Oh, now you're listening. Hello, mine! I am Tyalith!

They went through Weyrling lessons, then drills--but then, a few years later, something happened. One late night, at Tyalith's behest, T'rel went out to the herdbeast pens. On the far edge, hidden in the shadows, he saw what looked like a child sneaking towards the pens. Alarmed, he tried to stop them, and to his shock found out it was actually a young woman, so tiny and underfed that she'd seemed childlike. Her green (because she was apparently a rider) leapt to her rescue, but was also obviously terrified. It took a lot of work and reassuring, but finally he managed to calm the pair down enough to talk to them.

And so began his budding romance with the holdless rider. Every few days they met up, by day or night, all over Pern. Tyila was never willing to have him come too near her people's camps, but she warmed to him enough to reveal what they were doing, and her part in it. She obviously did not want to be part of that life, and already drawn to her, T'rel decided that he would offer for her to join them at High Reaches. There she would be safe, he thought, and nearby. He was falling in love with her, and that was especially important.

Nearly a turn later, the day they'd planned for her to run came. And so did thread. It fell, and T'rel had to fight it, leaving Tyila alone in the night. Finally the fall passed and they were able to find each other. Together they returned to the weyr, and she was able to join up. Since then they've been nearly inseperable.

DRAGON
Name: Tyalith
Age: six turns
Color: Green
Size: 26'
Physical Description:
Personality: Did Tarel see that green over there? That green was flown by a blue the other day, and Tyalith knows all about it! This green never stops to think twice about what she's telling her rider. Oh, and that brown over there! Tyalith thinks he's quite nice. Tarel will have his hands and ears full with this dragon.

Tyalith loves to tell stories. More than that, she loves to hear stories. The latest gossip, the latest scandal... It's all very exciting! Tyalith is sure Tarel will want to know just how what happened happened. Nosy and with a hunger for news bigger than any harper's, if you ever want to know the goings on at the Weyr, ask Tarel! Tyalith does not share with any but her rider.

Possibly the only dragon who could be referred to as too friendly, Tyalith tries to get along with everyone. Due to her nosy, playful nature, however, she may find this difficult. While not keeping a running commentary for her rider, this green will actively seek companions. She tends to be flighty (no pun intended) however, and her friends are often chosen by the amount of gossip they provide.

Work? Eh. Drills? No thanks. Tyalith wants to play. She does not do well with authority, she would much rather spend time at the shore, or in the water. It is only because of her rider that she consents to such things. Tyalith is rather opinionated, and she has no trouble voicing her views to her rider. Did Tarel see that? Minuth's tripped! How clumsy! Oh, and did Tarel see that, there? Minuth's should really be more careful.

Tyalith, despite her desire for news, can be rather motherly. Tarel is clumsy, gullible, and altogether silly, and she loves him for it. She felt the need to take care of him when on the sands, and that will only increase as they grow older. Tarel has the tendency to trust everyone. Tyalith will nose about; she will either inform her rider that they are not to be trusted, or let the entire thing go. If they attempt to harm her rider, however--

Hell hath no fury like a dragon scorned.

When not gossiping, Tyalith can be sweet. She's not the most intelligent, but she's a loving sort. If Tarel ever needs comforted or reassured, she will always be there for him.

Always there for him has its drawbacks, however. Tyalith tends to notice the smaller things, one might think she's a very observant dragon--until one realizes she hasn't seen anything past the small things. Is her rider happy? That's what's important. Not the safety of others. Oh, did Tarel see that pretty stone? He did see it, right? If he didn't, Tyalith will be happy to go back and show him.

Inspiration: Mar Vanwa Tyalieva (Cottage of Lost Play, J.R.R Tolkien, Book of the Lost Tales I) - The small, cheerful cottage children go to when they sleep, to rest, to play, to listen to stories, and to learn.

Why do you feel this character will suit this dragon?: Because Tarel is a playful, loving sort. His natural trust in all those who do not frighten him. A gullible, excitable sort, he's just the type Tyalith was looking to take care of! Tyalith will set him on the path to success (at least, in her opinion). She is willing to listen to his dreams and fears, to praise him, to comfort him, and to gossip.

T'ye and Amarisath

Name: T'ye, born Terliyel
Age: Twenty Eight Turns
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: High Reaches
Rider Rank: Greenrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice weaver
Physical Description: T'ye has large brown eyes in a round face. He has average features with a slightly upward-pointed nose. His dark brown hair falls onto his forehead--when it reaches his eyes, he trims it. Either himself, or with the help of his weyr mate, Ash. It is not very neat, even on his best days. He has a slow smile. He is tall and thin, though his arms look altogether too long for his body.

He wears neutral colors on any given day. Grays and blues in particular.
Personality: T'ye was born to be a firelizard. With the amount of gossip he produces seemingly out of nothing, and the great amount of noise he emits on a daily basis; the comparison is accurate. Despite his tendency towards gossip and to chatter needlessly, Tetzel is an intelligent man. He will go out of his way to figure something out--anything out, if he feels it's for Weyr ears.

T'ye shows little fear for what others could do to him. He is bold and willing to take risks (especially verbal risks) to ensure what he feels should be Weyr knowledge becomes so. This makes him reckless in the sense that he does not think about what could happen if he upset someone, If he spreads the wrong information. He may follow others in order to hear what they know--or better, what they don't know. T'ye has found that observing conversations reveals much. Listening to what others say is only part of what he does. He likes to say he listens to what isn't said more.

T'ye, and perhaps this goes without saying, is a curious boy. If there's something to learn about, something to know about, T'ye is on it. When not participating in activities, when not doing chores, he may be found reading if not questioning another candidate. T'ye does not like feeling like he lacks any sort of knowledge; and of course, the more he knows, the more he realizes how much he doesn't know. He may feel the need to pester in order to gleen the information he desires.

When it comes to authority, T'ye does what he is told--but not without some other motive. He may wish to snoop! If this man is quick to agree to do something, beware! T'ye is often searching for answers when he has free time. This greenrider's on the job. He'll do it well, too--but don't expect him to continue if there's something going on. He may look for a reason to leave--someone screaming? He's going to go investigate.

When not trying to learn something new, T'ye is most often spending time with hi Weyrmate. He gets caught up in the moment, and continuely falls in love with her, he claims to every day. He is not especially shy about his feelings towards her, either. He may tell her his affections privately, but it's more like likely he'll voice them loudly.

T'ye always sort of believed Thread would return. His father had, too, and shared stories that he'd heard as a child. T'ye wasn't sure it wasn't all a bunch of nonsense--Thread was gone! Some part of him, though, had hung onto every word he heard about it.

Thread actually returning, was another story. He panicked. He was terrified. For the safety of his weyrmate, for his child, for his parents. People he'd grown up with in thecreche lost their lives trying to fight. They'd been trained, but unprepared.

Being born to a green and blue rider pair, and then Impressing a green; T'ye might be in the minority's here at High Reaches. He knows Amarisath is just as good (or better!) as any other dragon. This young man believes that a dragon is a dragon. Why should the hierarchy be based on the size of one's partner? He isn't bitter about the way he's viewed, he isn't unhappy with his bond, he loves his Amarisath wholly and unbiasedly. He wishes everyone could see his dragon the way he does.

History: T'ye was born to a green and blue rider pair at Highreaches, and was stuck in the crèche as soon as he was old enough. His parents didn't cut ties with him, though, and provided him with gifts every Turnover and birthing day. They wanted him to be apprenticed before Impressing (and they were sure he would) so when he showed interest in weavercraft, they had him apprenticed.

He never left the Weyr, his master being local. So when he old enough to become a candidate, he did. He finally impressed at twenty one. He had started to think he might never; that he'd go back to his craft and become a journeyman. Instead, soon after the hatching, he met Ash. Oh, he was smitten with her from the start. He had to be careful, though. He'd heard relationships could have negative effects on dragonets, so he didn't initiate one. He admired from afar.

It wasn't long before Amarisath was full grown, though, and he told Ash of his feelings. He asked her to be his Weyrmate after they'd courted a few months.

Thread returned only recently, and while T'ye had heard stories from dragonriders and his own father, he believed, and yet didn't. He believed that Thread might return, but certainly not in his own lifetime! It'd been gone for a thousand turns! It'd probably be gone for a thousand more. Thus, he was unprepared when it came. People he'd grown up with lost their lives as they tried to fight it. He lost childhood friends. He was fortunate to have Ashlyn by his side. She is his strength in all of this. They have a small child, and T'ye continually worries after him.
Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name: Amarisath
Age: 7 turns
Color: Green
Size: '18
Physical Description: Using starter pack green<3
Personality: This green, at first glance, is one of the sweetest dragons you could ever meet. She exudes a warm friendliness toward almost everyone that she meets. This green always seems to be inserting herself into the middle of a crowd - not for the attention, but because she wants to be where all the excitement is. Even human crowds are exciting to her, if there is music involved. Amarisath loves music, and will (somewhat childishly) demand that her rider play music or sing for her as often as possible. Having a rider who plays guitar, even as a hobby, will thrill her to no end. She will try to be friends with, or at least friendly towards, all othdr dragons. Her affections are flighty, however, and her rider will be the only one to always have her utmost respect and love.

Gossip, however, is not likely to impress her. She will regularly chide T'ye for participating in it. Amarisath is a very polite dragon, see, and she can't stand for anyone to be mistreated - which includes speaking poorly of others behind their back. Though she isn't usually pushy, she will not tolerate a lack of manners. Those who are unkind to others will not get much of her time or attention, unless it's unavoidable. She becomes downright dismissive with those who ignore her chiding (which is very motherly in its own way) and will resort to simply ignoring someone when they refuse to see the error of their ways.

For all her sweetness, Amarisath is really quite opinionated. She knows what she thinks is right and everyone else should agree with her. Why on earth would she be wrong? She is quite unwavering in her opinion, and her affections are not easily swayed.

R'elien and Kaeth

Name: R'elien (Born Aurelien)
Age: 18
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Miner
Physical Description: He has brown hair that falls neatly over his ears and almost to his shoulders. It is combed out of the way, but not put up unless he's been told to do so. His hazel colored eyes generally shine with mischief. Aurelien is tall (standing at about six foot) and thin. He has a long nose and otherwise plain facial features. He dresses neatly, generally in terrain colors. Greens, browns, greys.
Personality: Which side is he on? It's impossible to tell with Aurelien. Whether he's helped or hindered, one has to wonder at this candidate's motives. Oh, he'll gladly help! For a price. What's in it for Aurelien? Though at times he may seem too easily persuaded -- one can expect he's convinced he's getting more out of it than what was promised. People will need to be careful. Aurelien's cunning knows no bounds.

What's in it for him, if he shows a candidate how to peel tubers properly? Ten to one, he considered what he would get out of it before he offered to help. Whether its knowledge he desires or material items (usually the former; knowledge is power!), know that Aurelien will benefit.

Along with making deals, Aurelien loves to guess at what he thinks might happen. He loves to place a bet or two! What eggs will hatch out what color? What gold will rise next? Which Candidates will Impress, and which won't? Aurelien's willing to bet marks on--well, just about everything. If it can be turned into some sort of gamble, it will be. It may be as trivial as when the Candidatemaster's next scolding will be, or what will be served for that evening's supper, Aurelien can make it interesting. At least, worth his while.

One should avoid seeking advice from Aurelien. His counsel often only benefits him. He may lead others to believe that which is not true. Other times, his advice may seem like the only solution. One should remember not to count their firelizards before they're hatched when taking this rider's suggestions into consideration. The rare occasion that he chooses to share real knowledge; there's something in it for him. It may be information. He may simply be reminding the person in question that they owe him.

Whatever his motives for whatever causes, Aurelien's not about to confess to anything short of "Trying to help".

Despite his flaws, which are many, none can deny that this candidate is charming. He has an air about him, especially when he is speaking. He has a way of getting people to listen to him.

He has a sense of humor! He catches onto how things are said and will poke fun at them. He enjoys making others laugh. He will latch onto words and names that sound alike and make comparisons between the two. Though Aurelien's humor may seem like he's directly attacking some (and at times, he may be!), he intends to amuse. If only himself.

He's a romantic fellow. If he ever found a girl that caught his attention; and that will take some doing, he would become unswervingly loyal to her, as well as protective of her. He would attempt to provide everything she desired. He would dote on her (if allowed to do so) endlessly. If something happened to her, Aurelien would not react well. If another person caused her to become unhappy, or injured in any way, this candidate would do his best to ensure the person in question experienced the same thing (or something worse!). She would be his flicker of light in an otherwise dark night. He will support her in everything she does, unless it directly opposes something her firmly believes.

Aurelien loves chaos! He loves seeing the unexpected happen, but even more than that, he loves seeing people struggle with the unexpected. Don't think he'll offer his help in these situations without being bargained with. He'd much rather observe.

When it comes to getting his own way--or not, Aurelien likes to keep things simple. He can be genuinely kind, when getting his way. When he's not tricking someone out of something. However, he can be pretty nasty when deprived of what he desires. He can be mischevious, pulling pranks on fellow candidates in order to lift his spirits.

Positive Trait List Charming, Humorous, Cunning, Romantic, Loving, Loyal
Negative Trait List Gambling, Mysterious, Chaotic, Liar, Sneaky, Selfish
History: Born to a small mining hold outside of Western Weyr, Aurelien never expected to make much of his life. He would carry on in the footsteps of his father in the mining craft. His relationship with his parents was never good. He was the third child of a family of six. Aurelien never fancied being in the middle. His time with his parents was limited until he was old enough to become apprentice to his father. At nine turns old, he began to study under him and began to learn the craft. Lacking entertainment, Aurelien was forced to make his own. And so, while learning the craft from his father, he began to mentally play a game, calculating probabilities. He would try to guess at what would be brought out of the small mine.

Before this, he had spent the majority of his time learning from other miners in the small hold, as well as his siblings. His parents were too busy juggling the mine and his three younger siblings to really focus on each child.

The game changed in intention as Aurelien aged. From the simple need for something to do when his father was busy talking to other miners when he was nine turns old, to a more purposed, systematic gambling. He would create mental scenarios; considering each and deciding which were the most likely to take place. How likely was the mine to cave in? How likely were the miners to run out of air?

A bluerider arrived at the minor hold. His interest in Aurelien was not immediate. Only after the boy assisted him in tying his delivery onto his riding straps did he suggest taking Aurelien to the Weyr. Those games never truly ended; even after Aurelien was Searched at the age of fifteen turns. In fact, even at the Weyr, they have only altered scenarios. How many eggs will there be in a clutch? How many will Hatch? What colors will they be?

He got his answer on hatching day. There were plenty of dragons, in every color! But he didn't impress his first time standing. His second hatching, at sixteen turns old, however--he hadn't predicted what would happen. The first two eggs practically exploded as they hatched. A large brown came bounding towards him, eyes a firey red.

He'd never been so frightened in his life. The other hatchling, a blue, ran towards him as well, placing itself between him and the brown. The brown backed down after a long moment.

I will always be here to protect you, mine. I am Kaeth, and you are the best of all of these.

Weyrling lessons kept them both busy. R'elien didn't have time to guess results when Kaeth constantly reminded him that he needed fed every few hours. The first month was hard on him, with the oiling, feeding, and lessons--but things got better! Kaeth grew fast.

A turn passed without much incident. He graduated, his younger siblings got in contact; apparently their small mine was doing well.

Life was pretty good for R'elien and Kaeth, up until eight months ago. Thread returned, and though he received immediate word that his family was alright, and that they'd head for the Weyr, he still felt panic tear at his heart. This was awful! Thread, real thread! There weren't words for the first time he saw it.

Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name: Kaeth
Age: two turns
Color: blue
Size: 25'
Physical Description:
Personality: Personality: This dragon is one fine-looking specimen and it knows it. It flaunts its looks, a subtle but confident sway to its walk when it knows others are watching. It takes great care its appearance, insisting on daily baths and frequent oiling. Its vanity even extends to its rider, which it expects to look good. If its rider is not putting enough effort into their appearance then this dragon will fuss and scold them.

Already blessed with a sleek, well-proportioned frame and delicate features, this dragon makes a further impression with its poise. It is fluid in motion and daintily composed at rest. Its voice is gentle with a calculated softness, and this dragon usually displays good etiquette. Manners are, in its opinion, of great importance, because they keep things civilized. It is for this same reason that it doesn't chafe as much as one might expect at Weyr ranks; even if it doesn't always like them, and sometimes even complains about them, it knows they’re necessary.

There is a vicious streak in this dragon that makes itself known in various ways. It holds grudges - even if it can’t always remember why – and can be very passive-aggressive. It is capable of delivering insults in a politely demeaning way, which often makes them worse. It is a fierce Thread fighter, freely working itself to exhaustion, and it finds a primitive joy in hunting and ripping prey apart.

Anyone familiar with this dragon would probably not be surprised to learn that it is quite comfortable with politics. It makes small talk easily and is a fairly convincing in debates. A world built on compromises, back-stabbing, false appearances, and furtive viciousness? It’s the perfect place for this dragon. It will take to dragon gossip and Weyr politics like a duck to water, and who knows where that may lead it and its rider?

Why Me? There's absolutely no way that Kaeth would find himself a rider no one would listen too - and Aurelien's charming demeanor was just what he was looking for. Both dragon and rider are cunning, capable of running the gauntlet of Weyr Politics and coming out on top (or as as close to the top as they are allowed to get). Although Kaeth is a touch less ruthless then Aurelian the dragons demand for good manners and belief in the necessity of civilization might be just what the boy needs to keep him from going one step to far in his quest for Chaos and amusement.

Woe onto anyone who crosses this pair however as both are capable of unsheathing their claws should the need arise. Holding grudges, protecting loved ones or just plain not getting their way can and likely will lead this pair into trouble from time to time when their combined tempers get the hold of them. Aurelien's ability to dote on things he cares about might well be put to the test with Kaeth who will almost certainly demand such attention from his rider so that they may put their best foot forward.

G'nik and Dazalth

Name: G'nik, originally Gerenik
Age: 45 turns
Sex: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Weyr: Western
Rider Rank: Wingrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Weyrbrat turned weaver
Physical Description: G'nik has blonde hair that he keeps neatly trimmed. When it grows out, it tends to get into his eyes and irritate him. He's tall, standing exactly at six feet, and tanned. He has large hands, with calloused fingers from working with his hands all his life. He's stoutly built with broad shoulders. He has freckles on his cheeks that seem to darken the more time he spends outside.

His clothes are often embellished. He preferred embroidery as an apprentice and purchases plain clothes to embroider himself.

Personality: G'nik is a sweet man with a cheerful disposition. He makes friends easily and enjoys building relationships with others. He's quietly confident; when he knows he can do something he doesn't feel the need to gloat or speak much about it. Yes, he did embroider that tunic himself. Oh, no, he isn't embroidering for marks but he appreciates the offer. Really. He'd rather keep his abilities to himself and his weyrmate.

While he still finds joy in his craft when he has the time... He hasn't really been himself since Thread. A'mir, G'nik's weyrmate, was injured badly and he's taken to hovering and checking on him during those few free moments. He worries often, despite attempts to hide it from his mate. Thread terrifies him, wholly and completely, but that only gives him more reason to fight it. He can't imagine what it's done to all those families who experienced it unprepared. He fears losing A'mir beyond all other things. He has withdrawn from some of his friendships in order to keep an eye on A'mir, but this was mostly during the time his mate was healing, and he never attempted to rekindle them.

When he isn't focused on his mate, his attention can shift rapidly. Embroidery can keep his hands busy while holding a conversation. His focus most often veers to his dragon, or to his mate. Even a turn later, the guilt that comes with "Why wasn't it me?" and the fear of experiencing that feeling of hopelessness can consume him.

He seems to have a sweet tooth, which contributes to his broad frame. He will ocassionally wander to the kitchens and request a few bubblypies. He always shares, of course, with his weyrmate.

G'nik is devoted to the people he loves. A'mir has reached a tier only lower than Dazalth, but friends and family get just as much dedication. If someone needs someone to talk to, G'nik is there. If someone's short an egg for a recipe, he'll direct them towards the kitchens. This man knows nothing about cooking; but he'll certainly take part in the eating.
Positive Trait List Loyal, devoted, confident, loving
Negative Trait List Situation caused anxiety, easily distracted, (currently) withdrawn
History: G'nik was born Gerenik, and never really pictured himself doing anything other than being a dragonrider. He was raised around them, even after he was sent to the crèche he saw his father's blue often enough. His parents were detached but interested, so when they would bring small gifts on turnover and his birthingday.

He was apprenticed out when he was ten turns old. He missed the Weyr more than anything, at first, and began to enjoy the craft. He loved embroidery. He did the best he could, until he was Searched at seventeen. He gladly returned to the Weyr and soon after, he stood for Impression.

He didn't Impress the first time he stood. The second time, a blue came running at him and ended up on top of him. Mine! Why weren't you singing for us on this happy, happy day? This is the day I found you, Garenik, and we should always sing together!

G'nik didn't do much singing, despite his dragon's insistence that they do so. Instead, he met a fellow weyrling. A'mir hadn't even been on the sands, he'd been an onlooker. G'nik found that fascinating. Dragons always knew who was best for them. They quickly became friends in classes.

G'nik fell in love with his fellow weyrling the turn after classes ended, but kept it for the most part to himself. It wasn't until A'mir talked about leaving the Weyr that he realized how strong his feelings were for the man. If A'mir left, G'nik wanted to go with him. They left together.

It took several turns for A'mir to open up enough for them to have a relationship, and another for him to ask G'nik to marry him.

G'nik took to selling his embroidery to assist them financially with their travels. They sold well, but not nearly well enough to give them a stable income. They often had to get shelter from storms.

And then, twenty turns after they'd left Western Weyr, Thread returned. They were visiting a remote, minor hold when it happened. A'mir was injured badly. G'nik knew the healers at the hold--if any had survived--would be busy tending to the residents. He took A'mir onto Dazalth, instructed A'mir's blue to go to Western, and popped them between. That was the worst three seconds of G'nik's life. He wasn't sure whether A'mir would survive. Wasn't sure if taking an injured man between wasn't the worst idea ever... But Western was his home. And A'mir would have his best chance there.

G'nik didn't leave A'mir's side except to practice. He ate, he slept minimally. The fear that his love would get worse... That he could get hurt again when it should've been him who'd been scored, gripped him.

He's been plagued by anxiety since. He feels the need to check in on A'mir often; but has come to the point where he's realized something isn't quite write and has begun writing a mindhealer in High Reaches. (Guess who?)

Other: Plans for G'nik to see a mindhealer / correspond with one are in the works. His anxiety / worry for A'mir will get better with time and talking it out.

DRAGON
Name: Dazalth
Age: 27 turns
Color: Blue
Size: 23'
Physical Description: Lean and petite, this dragon is on the smaller end of the chart.
Personality: Vain, and maybe a little beyond egotistical, this blue wouldn't be out of place in a group of bronzes. Oh, just because he's blue doesn't mean he'll allow his greatness to be looked over! Admire his hide! How it shines. How bright it is! Oh, the cleverness of him! Dazalth's behavior isn't all without cause. This blue is quite intelligent. He loves to offer his rider advice, and often.

Dazalth loves music, but even more so, he loves words. Words, words, words; they're what make the world go around. They awaken the soul, they bring things to life. He will often insist that G'nik jot down his thoughts if he feels they're particularly poetic. Music is incredibly important, Dazalth will insist. Words, even more so. Music speaks of the future--of the past. Of what has been, and what is. It speaks of joys, of sadness--of love! And didn't love help bring G'nik and his mate together? Music is the answer to all life's questions.

Dazalth is incredibly stubborn. He firmly believes that what he belies is right. And they must be. They're right, because he's right. It isn't that he can't see the other person's point--it's that they're wrong. Of course they are, because if they weren't wrong, Dazalth would be wrong. That simply doesn't happen.

Dazalth can be sensitive to others' feelings, especially to His'. Ever since A'mir was caught during Threadfall, he's noticed that his rider has been withdrawn. He's tried to counteract this by encouraging G'nik to spend time with friends, or to swim with him. Maybe have some of the candidates help with bathing him.

Resa and Lyraeth

Name: Teliresa (goes by Resa)
Age: 26
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Weyr: Western Weyr
Rider Rank: goldrider
Previous Rank/Craft: Apprentice harper
Physical Description: Resa has midlength, wavy light brown hair and blue eyes. She has thin features and a slightly upturned nose. She's tall and slender, around 5'7. Her hair is often put up to keep out of her eyes. Resa tends to always be on the move, and her clothes, while they don't show too much wear (Lyraeth would never allow it), are a testament to this.

Personality: Resa has that sort of stubbornness that comes from having seven people in your family tell you what to do. She is the youngest of six sisters, and always planned on surpassing her sisters--somehow. She'd never been quite sure. This determination to do well still lives on. She wants to make the most out of her life, and the more she does, the more successful she is, the better things will be.

She believes she can help others reach their full potential. Some people just don't believe in themselves, and believing (regardless of what anyone says) really is half of it. She feels that if she encourages others to do well or try new things, that they will do well. Or at least, they'll have tried something new and boardened their horizons. She genuinely believes in the abilities of otherd. Sometimes people are simply in the wrong circumstances to see how brilliant they are.

Resa is always on the move. She loves to keep busy. She keeps busy working with drills, washing her dragon, following Z'haq-who-is-only-a-friend-don't-look-at-her-that-way around. She likes to finish tasks as soon as they're given. She is impatient with others when she feels they could do something better faster. Especially candidates. Candidates always seem to complain about tasks that aren't difficult, just time consuming. She knows the can do well, if they try.

Resa never got much attention as a youngster, so when given it, is easily charmed. If doted on, she will try to soak up that attention.

Positive Trait List Energetic, encouraging, believes in others
Negative Trait List Stubborn, impatient, arrogant
History: Born the sixth daughter of a minor holder, Resa knew from an early age that she would have to strive to succeed. Her oldest sister would learn the inner workings of the hold, while the younger four were sent to the harperhall once they were old enough. Being the youngest, she always felt like she would have to strive to match her older siblings' talent. Her older sisters were quite a bit older than her; there were six turns between she and the youngest of her older siblings.

She did well as an apprentice, but the turning point in her life was actually her sister's performance at Western Hold. She was fifteen turns old. Her family went, her second oldest sister was a journeyman and had been requested to sing at the gather. A dragonrider spoke with her, and he suggested she come to the Weyr. There would be a hatching soon, he promised. A gold was due to rise. Her parents' opinion on this was strong. Dragons were nothing, nowadays. Their tricks were for tourists, and they were used as flying runners. And besides, Resa had her apprenticeship to finish! Didn't she want to be on stage one day, like her sister?

She agreed to go to the Weyr. She loved music--but the chance to have a dragon! A dragon would set her apart from her sisters no matter what her parents said. There was a reason for all the songs about them. They'd saved Pern.

The dragonrider who'd searched her had been correct. A gold, Orcheth, did rise soon after her arrival. Teliresa loved everything about the Weyr. The dragons, the people, the chores--maybe not the chores. She loves being able to be so close to the dragons, and then the eggs.

The hatching happened, and she watched dragon after dragon pair up with their riders. The gold egg cracked and and next Resa knew, she had a dragonet tugging at her robe.

What are you wearing, Mine? You look ridiculous! I am Lyraeth, and we'll figure this out together.

They spent the next turn in lessons, and during free moments Lyraeth would take to selecting things for Resa to wear. The next seven turns went by without much incident. Flight, clutch, flying--and then Thread returned. Her former home was all but destroyed. Her family, thankfully, hadn't been there. They'd been at a ceremony as her youngest older sister walked the tables to become a journeyman. They wrote to her immediately after, asking whether she was safe. She'd never been so glad to hear from them.
Other: Anything else you want to add?

DRAGON
Name: Lyraeth
Age: ten turns (born 3563.12.18, to Orcheth x Xhenth)
Color: Gold
Size: 47'
Physical Description: On the larger side, Lyraeth is a beautiful gold with stripes.
Personality: Lyraeth is a friendly dragon by all accounts. She may even talk too much. She loves to be in the know. She loves speaking to her friends about the goings on in the Weyr.

She cares a lot about appearances, so she will attempt to decide which outfits Teliresa should wear which days. They must always appear worthy of their position. Is Teliresa really going to go out with her hair like that? Not on her watch!

She can be stubborn. Teliresa doesn't always cater to her dragon's whims, especially when it comes her own appearance. Lyraeth will insist upon it if refused and may well grumble about it throughout the day.

Lyraeth believes every dragon, human, and creature, can be beautiful. Sometimes they just need reminded. Or advised on how to appear the most beautiful. Starting with scented oils is good, they really do make all the difference. But accessorizing is important! Do your straps clash with your hide? This cannot happen! And of course, Teliresa cannot wear yellow because then they would match and that was so last season.

In addition to this, Lyraeth is also a very courteous dragon; and sometimes Teliresa needs reminding to be polite. Manners are extremely important! Around Lyraeth, everyone will be receiving compliments. Whether they look particularly clean today, flew well, or they simply look like they need reminded of how great their potential is, Lyraeth is on it with kind words. Unfortunately, these aren't always the truest of words. If someone needs a quick pick me up, Lyraeth will provide words of encouragement. "Oh, you'll do better next time! It's alright, everyone makes mistakes. Secretly, everyone knows you're the best here. Ask anyone!" She does try to be genuine, though. She just wants everyone to feel good about themselves.

Because of this Lyraeth could often be seen as flirting, while simply being polite--or is she actually interested? This is one thing the gold is keeping tight lipped about.

She has a strong friendship with a green (Craith) and during freee periods will often be found gossiping with her. Did Craith's rider start using scented oils? Lyraeth prefers the flowery scented ones. Craith should request those. They often talk concerning looks or impractical things, but the two dragons are as close as can be.

Jailla and Micheth

Name: Jailla
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Starcraft
Rank: Apprentice / Candidate
Location: Western
Physical Description: Long, straight, copperish red hair; freckles and a deep tan. Her eyes are a mixture of green and blue, and almond shaped. She's thin, and has a small bone structure. Has the appearance of someone fragile. She seems to get injured rather often; bruising easily. She seems to hide her face with her hair; when faced with someone she doesn't know well.
Personality: Jailla is quietly spunky and firey; like a fire started in a forest people haven't yet seen. She can be shy but more recently she's become confident with meeting new people as long as she's prepared for it. Meeting someone unexpectedly will throw her off guard, especially if physically bummed into. She will hastily apologize and hurry to finish whatever she was doing--in the opposite direction.

This candidate loves stargazing. She was an apprentice, learning to chart stars when she was Searched by a friendly brownrider at the age of sixteen. When she first stood, it was a small clutch of ten; she was disappointed, but not entirely dismayed. She decided to remain at the Weyr rather than return home, hoping that eventually, she might Impress. An intelligent girl, but focused too much on her studies instead of social activity.

She may need encouragement from others before joining a large group. Jailla feels most comfortable one on one with someone, and shies away from crowds.

Jailla seems to have a slight fear of tunnelsnakes. And a fear of losing those she cares about. She has a strong desire to befriend folks, but seems to struggle with summoning enough courage to start a conversation that's more substantial than small talk. She may watch them from afar, hopeful. Hopefully she learns that to have her feelings returned, she must first make a show of said emotions. So far however, she hasn't seemed to grasp that concept.

Once Jailla befriends someone, sheis easily fooled, trusting them in just about anything--the first time. She has the natural expectation that people tell the truth. Once someone betrays that trust, she withdraws from the relationship.

Clumsy, she tends to bruise from tripping or bumping into something . She falls back onto her buttom often, but never makes an issue of it. These clumsy moments are best ignored. The candidate is aware (and embarassed) of her lack of grace.

Positive Trait List Intelligent, curious, observant
Negative Trait List shy, quiet, driven by emotion, focuses too much on studies
History: Jailla was born into a well to do family of crafters, and at eight turns old, began her own studies as a Starcrafter. Her parents were thrilled when they saw how much she delighted in it and encouraged her every chance they got. She would do well, of course.

And she did do well, until she was searched at sixteen. Her father in particular was disappointed. Dragons were for tourists! There was no real use for them now, they were no different than any pack animal now. Jailla loved the Weyr, though. She wrote regularly, talking of chores and having helped a rider scrub their dragon--and her father calmed. Jailla was happy. That was the important thing, as long as she kept up her studies.

Jailla stood for her first hatching soon after she was Searched, and didn't Impress. Standing had been nerve wracking, she'd been more concerned with the people watching than what the dragons thought; they were beautiful creatures, the dragons. She decided to stay after that hatching, to hopefully Impress.

A turn after she'd arrived at the Weyr, Thread returned. Deep fear ran through her; the fear of losing her family. She contacted them immediately with the aid of a friend's firelizard.

The return letter was such a relief. They were alright. Their crops and the tools they'd left outside the hall were gone, but those were replaceable. And they wanted her to stay at the Weyr, where she could learn to fight Thread.

Origin of Name: Micheth is named after another name given to the Yeti -- the Tibetan name Michê. This name translates into "man bear".

Inspiration: The Yeti has long been a revered figure in Himalayan mythology that predates Buddhism. The various peoples inhabiting Tibet and Nepal do not see the Yeti as a proto-human type of creature but instead a man-like animal that seems to exist with supernatural powers. The Yeti is sometimes called the Abominable Snowman.

Yeti's are incredibly aloof and difficult to track. They are thought to be large in size, strong, and covered in fur. The fur is not actually white -- many consider Yeti's to have brown or red fur, similar to the North American monster, Big Foot. Some believe them to be nocturnal and solitary, while others believe them to live in hidden groups.

In some legends, the Yeti is thought to be able to fly in the air, kidnap young women to rear their young, throw stones, and maraud local livestock. It's also thought to have the ability to appear and disappear at will, instead of being found through tracking.

Personality: Micheth is one of the quiet dragons of this clutch. Unlike some of his siblings, he is not overly protective or some sort of guard -- no, instead, Micheth is simply quiet because he tends not to have much to say. Even from an early age, this dragon will be all sorts of serious -- there is much going on in the world, and this blue is a bit overly serious. While some of his clutchsiblings might pull pranks and practical jokes, Micheth finds little humor in such games. They should be focused on their studies, and their skills, not goof off! Thread is falling, and they have much to do to protect Pern. He isn't always a stick in the mud -- with his rider's encouragement, he will find games he enjoys, and certain dragons will be able to draw out a more relaxed side of the blue. He will never be the life of the party, but he's okay with that!

Micheth is a thoughtful dragon and a deep thinker. This adds to his quiet stoicism -- while some might expect an answer or retort right away, Micheth will carefully consider his words before answering. Some of his more impatient clutchsibs might not appreciate it, but his answers are always well thought out, and never rushed. On top of being a deep thinker, Micheth can be thoughtful and considerate -- he will think of others needs, particularly that of his riders, and try to ensure she is never lacking in want.

Though his clutchsibs might grow impatient with him, Micheth does not have much of a temper. He is incredibly patient, and does not give in to anger and rage like some of his hot-headed siblings. He knows how to wait, and will do so as long as is necessary. Patience is a virtue, and this blue has been blessed with it in droves. While others might fly off the handle, this blue is tried and true; there is no reason to rush, they will get what they need in due time.

Micheth isn't always the easiest of reads. He tends not to put his feelings on display, and won't often delve into how things affect him. His stoicism comes from a need to be watchful, but also cautious -- he won't put his heart on display for just anyone, thank you. And he won't let his rider be taken advantage of, either. He will be cautious bout change, and tends to disapprove of rushing into anything. This blue is not a risk taker, and would much rather rely on the tried-and-true. You won't find him sticking his neck out for anyone!

Despite all this, Micheth is a good blue, and he will be supportive of his friends, and most of all, his rider. Their hopes, their dreams, their desires -- Micheth will be there to ensure they get it all. They will be unwavering in their loyalty, always ready to give a word of encouragement, love, or understanding.

Positive Traits: Supportive, Patient, Thoughtful
Negative Traits: Stoic, Cautious, Serious

Adult Size: 31'
Physical Attributes: Micheth is on the larger side for a blue. He will always have exceptionally large hands and feet, and while he will grow into them a bit more by age, they will always be just a bit too big for the rest of him. While this can make him clumsy on the ground -- especially as a weyrling -- it is useful when he's hunting. His wings are large, and though he is not as agile as some of his smaller kin, he makes up with it with decent stamina.

If he's a bit on the plump side, that can't be helped. It's a mix of muscle and fat -- if his rider lets him gorge, he'll tend more towards plumpness; if he's more active, than he'll tend towards the leaner side.

Micheth enjoys Nzambith's company, and tends to disapprove highly of Hessianth and Fantoth's games. He is also close to Taivshath, as he does not mind her quiet and distant nature.

Additional Notes: Micheth absolutely adores the snow. He is quite jealous of those in High Reaches who get proper winters, and will love to take trips to the snow covered peaks when he's an adult. There are some places in the Western Continent that occasionally get snow, and you can bet Micheth will be there! He prefers cold weather to the summertime heat.

Additionally, he'll love to feast on caprines more than herdbeasts and wherries. While he'll eat anything, caprines are definitely his favorite! He may not find this out until later, as most of the meat suppled to the Weyr is often herdbeast.

Theme Song: Lean on Me - Bill Whithers

Why Me? Micheth is not like some of his louder or more aggressive siblings, and Jaila is the one he was searching for all along. Where she is fire, he is ice, and he will be her steadfast and fearless champion. Should she stumble, he will be there to pick her up; should she fear company, he will wrap around her and keep her safe; while she yearns to be sociable, he'll sit on the sidelines with her until she's comfortable and ready to get out there. Jaila has nothing to fear with Micheth because, chances are, he's already thought about all the dangers or surprises, and has prepared for it -- he's too cautious to let her go running off ahead, and has already made contingency plans should anything go awry.

This pair is a safe pair, full of understanding and support. They both have their own fears, and will be able to lean on one another when life gets overwhelming. Micheth appreciates that Jaila knows when to retreat from a bad situation, and will shield her from any repercussions; likewise, Jaila's hidden spunk and desire to be close to others might force Micheth off the sidelines and into the fray. Wherever Jaila goes, Micheth will always quietly follow.
