The sands were already getting more attention than they had the weeks before. Oh, with two golden queens having risen above the Weyr, many eyes - mostly Candidates - had turned their attentions towards them, waiting for when both mothers would clutch. Even Aurinkoth's own had some curious and idle thoughts about it.

With the hatching sands a topic of so much discussion, Aurinkoth had decided to go and look at them again, if only to make sure he wasn't remembering them differently than they actually were by some odd chance. He'd left Ichta to her rest - she'd been far too stressed about their step into proper adulthood - and off he'd gone on his own. It wasn't his first time visiting since he'd impressed his beloved, but...

It still looked very much the same to him! Though, the smallest bit of sentiment struck him. With a casual strut across the sands, though they'd been blown about, it was easy to trace over his steps in this place. She'd been...there and he'd been....he'd been over here! Yes! With a weak thump, the blue threw himself onto his side, then onto his back, where he attempted to wiggle himself into the sands, pushing more of it up over his chest and belly.

It wasn't a very good job of it, but he was at least attempting to look buried.

Two sets of golden wings had risen over the Weyr. Two golden queens had fallen, and now the waiting game had begun. Twin clutches would be on the sands in due time, and all eyes seem cast to when Rhianth and Fianth would be turning to the hatching sands as well. Y’qua had been musing over them as well, late at night when his new friend had gone to rest. Her own meditative musings had turned to the impending double clutch, of what it could mean--two was such a thematic number, afterall. Two was a union number, to come together, make peace--flights typically ended in two (however special Fianth’s case may be), Impression took place in two’s.

She’s getting lost in her own musings.

However, these flights.. happened so shortly around her and her siblings’ hatchday. It almost feel like the beginning after the end of a story. But was she not but barely into her first turn? A turn into life, with so much more to go. Idle thoughts of endings and beginnings have her musing on her own hatch day, when she had found her beloved. A lean, odd man for a lean, odd green--and she would have no other.

Heimdath stands from her ledge, leaving Y’qua to his quiet studies as she took to the air. There would be so much activity within the coming months, surely she could take once glance more before there would be a double clutch warming. While not her first time back to where she took her first breaths, and not her last, it would be before the next weyrlings would grace the hot grains. New playmates, new wingmembers. How exciting!

But apparently she hadn’t been alone in the thought. Her hearts are near alight at the recognition of her sunny brother. Even with their steps into adulthood, to being full fledged dragons, Aurinkoth was still her light--her lantern. Even when he was being silly and nostalgia flooded her mind, his radiance seemed to draw her attention.

Reliving old memories? Her voice is gentle, almost a touch playful. Her steps are light in the sands, chirping to Aurinkoth as she finds… where was it.. ah, right about there! She sits gently, the same spot where she’d huddled and watched from. It always looks so much bigger when it’s empty..

It likely wouldn't have mattered which sibling had joined Aurinkoth on the sands, but Heimdath's approach was greeted with a surge of sunshine from the blue, who twisted his neck up almost uncomfortably to warble a greeting to his green sister. Something like that! They're not as good as the memories that followed, after all! he answered with his same cheery tone. Being an egg had been only so much fun. It had been a lot of waiting too, and he had waited so very long to be able to go to his Ichta.

Life did not begin at the breaking of shell, after all.

Heimdath's other statement made Aurinkoth survey the sands, wondering if they actually felt smaller to him or if he was simply thinking they should because she'd said something. After a moment, he decided that - I think they feel small. In the same way that over time his Ichta - his sun, moon, stars, the center of his universe - had begun to feel small.

It perhaps lacks all of the feelings, though. The tension that Elzebuth had brought onto the sands, how it had grown when Zenobiath hastily had summoned Aresoth to break shell and they had begun to fight, sadness, nervousness, the fear of being left to wait....

the absolute certainty that a dragon would never, ever want someone like her. It had been a very strong feeling.

Soon this won't be our place anymore. It will be whomever's is to come and they will find their own beginning.

That surge of sunshine pulled a trill from her, her eyes whirling brighter as she watched him twist and turn. Heimdath returned a wave of affection -- soft, cool, but happy all the same. No, I’m rather fond of finding my own cozy places to think! Give me my freedom any day. While her egg had been cozy and warm, it didn’t beat the first smile she had pulled from Hers, or all the memories she now cherished from growing up.

Aurinkoth’s words gave her pause, facets whirling brilliantly as she mulled it over. Yes.. It was also Smaller, wasn’t it? She and Aurinkoth certainly hadn’t taken up this much room the last time they were on the sands. But her Y’qua was also smaller-- the Weyr was also smaller. There’s a vague recollection of sadness at not being able to fit in the same bed as her beloved, that seemed like a lifetime away. I get a sense of.. both. Heimdath craned her neck, looking at all the empty stands that loomed above them. While it looks smaller.. the emptiness is making it feel so much larger. No eggs, no fighting siblings, no gleaming mother above.. certainly no humming…

I think you’re right. The sands were clean of ichor and blood, and even though it had happened over a turn ago, she almost expected to still see it (not that she wasn’t glad it was cleaned, reminders of Aresoth’ and Elzebuth’s fight made her hearts ache all over again). But there was no trepidation, no worry of being left again. Instead, she had her Y’qua, and he would never feel loneliness again.

I had those very thoughts. There’s a gentle wistfulness rising, standing and stretching in the warm sand. So many new beginnings about to start on these sands! But our place is what we make of it. New beginnings.. won’t make our time any less ours, nor time spent elsewhere--playing at the lake, or flying up above….. Heimdath trails off, gently flicking sand with her bent tail.

However.. I do worry that with graduation, we will drift apart. Perhaps it was more loaded than intended. While there was a worry of her siblings, some who chose to climb the ranks while others did not--she also meant her favorite brother she always felt lighter than air while around.

Thump, whump, thump!

It was apparently time to get up now, and Aurinkoth had to kick and wiggle about to get off of his back, throwing sand everywhere as he did so. He'd awkwardly rolled onto one of his wings, then had to maneuver between standing on it and finding a way to step off of it - something that took much longer than it should of. Clearly, he was the most phenomenal example of an adult dragon any could ever see.

Once he'd finished his shining display of capability, he shook out both of his wings and tucked them back against his sides, crossing the sands to offer Heimdath a gentle butt of his head against hers. And we'll actually get to see this time! It was very unfair they didn't let us go see the little ones... though the little ones were getting bigger and bigger every day. But the idea - the speculation - about what it was like to actually see it all from the outside was very tactile in his mind.

He sat back, flicking his long tail over the sand behind him and smoothing his footsteps away. Did clutchmates often just...grow apart? It did seem that way, he guessed, but it was also hard to tell with their older counterparts who had even been hatched together. I guess that depends on what everybody finds the most important. These last few months have been.... Aurinkoth clacked his jaw as he thought it over. Trying. But I will continue doing what I do best, and hope that it will be enough.

The softest amused blue crept into her eyes, watching from the side as Aurinkoth kicked and wiggled, a wing stretching as some stray sprays of sand got close. Not like it would hurt. Even the silliest maneuvers made her hearts stutter and soar, for he was the best. She loved her siblings, even those she isn’t quite able to stay present-minded around. But Aurinkoth was the light that drew her away from her ever-pensive thoughts. Even just flipping and flopping around the sands made her feel lighter. A jovial rumble crept out of her as he finally seemed to dislodge from himself.

With a chirp that sounded more fitting from a feline than a full-grown dragon, Heimdath crossed to meet him in the middle, happily bumping her head with his oh-so gently. I’m quite excited to see this one! Even though it was fun to see all the little ones being flown in. Who knew if they might see something as odd of a sight as a dragonet escort again. I do hope there won’t be any fights this time.

Heimdath settled down near him, not touching--but his presence so close was a gentle warmth on the otherwise hot sand. She hummed, exhaling a breath that was near a sigh. Very trying, indeed.. While Heimdath couldn’t quite handle her siblings in large groups outside of wing drills and focused lessons, the thought of drifting apart was.. daunting. She loved them all dearly, wanted them to be happy in their pursuits. Your best will always be enough. You are such warmth on the coldest days, the brightness when these last few months have been darkest. If you give your best, we will be okay. It was a certainty when she otherwise never trusted in just one. But Aurinkoth’s word meant such comfort for her, even if she could only get close enough to bask in that light.

They are all so very, very small! Those who would let him play with them (which so far was not nearly enough) could so easily be carried. But with Aurinkoth as a playmate, was there ever any real worry he'd be too rough with them? It would not be long before perhaps a few of them would outpace him in size. Heimdath's concern garnered another mental nudge full of sunny confidence. There will be no reason for them to fight.

Though there should have been no reason for Elzebuth and Aresoth to fight, so there was some uncertainty there.

Heimdath had so many nice things to say, and Aurinkoth wished he had such a way with words. Elzebuth certainly was very talented at turning a phrase and a little bit of it had rubbed off on him over time, but mostly he was only good at having feelings. Though it felt as they got older, just having feelings was becoming less and less of 'enough'. But any worry he had was swept away by her certainty. She was certain so very rarely, so if Heimdath had enough faith in him to be certain, Aurinkoth would trust that with both of his hearts.

And you can always just reach out for me and I'll be there, okay?

So very small, and so very curious. It’s hard to believe we were that small. It had seemed like she had grown up in the blink of an eye, as Y’qua had said on occasion. But these little ones were growing fast, too. But they were still playful little ones, even if Heimdath often watched from afar. The bloom of sunshine that nudged it’s way in had her concerns evaporating in that gentle warmth. You’re right. It will be a good celebration. She hoped it would be so, but Aurinkoth’s certainty made her more sure in this outcome. Things would be alright.

They had to be.

His reassurance had her hesitating, a cascade of emotions tumbling through her. Aurinkoth was utterly wonderful. Surely one of her closest siblings she often sought, aside from Ngawanth, Sophrosunth, or Elzebuth. Yet he was the only one to make her hearts flutter as they did, who kept her so present-minded and cheerful. Heimdath loved him, yet hesitation made the words stick. It felt as if there was an opportunity to declare such.. Yet it was rapidly slipping through her claws.

He deserved the best, after all.

I’ll always be there for you, as well. She takes a moment, burying her nose under his chin like the socially anxious hatchling she used to be--and the dragon she grew up to be. Anytime you might need me.

If he caught Heimdath's hesitation, Aurinkoth didn't needle at it - at least not this time. He nudged around it with tendrils of sunshine, then let it be. At the very least, it was bad to let it settle. It had only taken months of handling his dearest Ichta to really master such a thing.

As she settled her head under his, the blue thrummed contently. This was nice - though most time with Heimdath was. He liked it less when the source was her uneasiness, however. It felt like there was more and more of that as they got older. In them. In their riders. In the Weyr. Oh, there was so much fuss to be had!

But right then, there was gossip and speculation to enjoy.

I should hope that it will never be a far travel, then. We all need to stay close by! Oh, Ichta had once talked about the political aspect of the siblings being separated to go to different Weyrs and that was a notion he simply couldn't abide! Everything will be fine. Of that, I'm certain.

The warmth curling around her is pleasant, the sunshine that warms her from the inside out. The hesitation melted away, and while her hearts still ached, she tries to push past it for the warmth that his body and mind gave to her. While she may pine, it shouldn’t come between their bond -- for she loved the sun, her little lantern burning bright. Any time with him was dearly treasured, fostering such deep feelings.

Yet, she’d do anything just to see him happy.

A gentle trill escapes her, soft and happy as she feels more than hears his thrumming. Heimdath nestles slightly, eyelids softly closing in contentment. It’s with a soft reservation that she tries to send some of her own warmth back, though softer than the sunrays Aurinkoth could give. Her tail loosely curls with his, barely more than a loose curl. But cuddled here, sand beneath her talons, his warm cozied up to her? Perfect.

I hope not. But we can travel as we need to, in case we ever get seperated! She was sure Y’qua wouldn’t mind traveling if they had to. But hopefully it would never come to that. Everything will be. I want to believe it will be.

As she settled against him, it was any wonder to those who would care that he kept his mind from thoughts of another green he'd shown such favor for. He'd burned it out of him as quickly as he could, after all. But it was different than the cuddling of children.

Perhaps a fault in growing up. Everybody had gotten so serious, after all.

But for now I am here and you are here and we are here together! his voice seemed to beam as he lazily curled his tail back around hers, like children holding hands. It was a nice moment. There were a lot of those with Heimdath.

As cozy as she was, Heimdath could almost convince herself to fall asleep. Cozied up to Aurinkoth and the warmth of the sand beneath her. She might be able to convince herself they were small again, cozy in the barracks. Before they’d lost their brother, when threadfall was an Adult thing and the most she had to worry about was making sure her hide wasn’t itchy and she ate enough food to assure people she wasn’t ill. Things had changed so rapidly, all she could do was try to keep her head up and focus.

Aurinkoth always helped her focus.

But his tail curling with hers helped to draw her back, a gentle rumble almost purring from her. We are here together now, and that is all that matters. To her, at least. These moments she cherished so dearly, for who knows what may happen with thread?

Moving one previously stepped-on wing, Aurinkoth tucked it around Heimdath in some sort of pantomime of a hug. It was funny that a place that was the center of so much gossip would offer them some privacy at least for the time being. Time alone was a rarity in a place so full of dragons. Even at that, he wouldn't have been surprised to hear that there were prying eyes upon them.

Heimdath's words were answered with a bright burst of sunshine, the blue seeming to perk up all the more, if such a thing were even possible. Yes! The moment was good, and really worrying about the future was a silly thing. The future was fickle, after all, and it changed it's mind so very often.

Do you think it will be more fun to see the little ones hatch than it was to be down here, knowing that we got to claim ours before anybody else got any wiser? He certainly did think that so many of his siblings had very much missed out on not having his Ichta, after all.

Even with her hearts fluttering in her chest, Heimdath can’t quite help the feeling of peace that’s settling on her. It’s odd, not one that she’s usually friendly with. Her mind was always going, wondering on this, thinking on that. So that they might find quiet rest here, sheltered in the one place that garnered so much gossip and speculation.. Well, the irony wasn’t quite lost on the little green.

The mental sunshine had her eyes whirl faster, brighter. She returned it with her own warm glow--for she was happy! They were here, together. No matter what happened, these moments were precious. But his question has her quiet mind start to wonder. For what would it be like?

I think so. For as much fun as it was to experience it ourselves, seeing all the little ones get to find Theirs just as we did? There was a deeper affection in her words, for the warmth of finding her Y’qua once everything had calmed down and most of her siblings had found Theirs. But she’d gotten hers, and forever he’d be hers! I hope there will be some playful ones. You looked like you were having so much fun before you found Yours. While she’d stayed in the back and watched. But she had wanted very much to play with him, she vaguely remembers.

Oh! It was very fun! he confirmed readily. There had been a lot of people needing a dose of cheer after Elzebuth and Aresoth had been at it after all, and he’d been determined to lift some moods! And oh if his dear sweet Ichta hadn’t needed it so much! All of them had needed it and the misunderstanding of hatchlings was quite easily forgotten once everybody had gotten to theirs. You’re very right. I think that the anticipation will be fun. It would be so fun if we could talk to them before they hatch and see what thoughts they have! though the candidates barely existed as a blip on his radar at times.

It wasn’t that he didn’t like them - because oh, he very much did. They just could never be his, and beyond what he could offer them, there was a void that waited for another and in that lack of connection, there was little individual memorability.
