Freedom~!

Their very first rest day was here at last, and Tierboskath was loving it.  Finally!  They could do whatever they wanted!! (Sort of.) Sleeping late had been a must, although that had only lasted so long before the baby blue's stomach had started rumbling.  After his breakfast, of course, came scrubbing and oiling, then Rio's breakfast, and now!  Now they had the rest of the day for the beach!  Leaving His well behind, Tierboskath used his long legs to bolt for the water, bounding through the shallows until he was deep enough to take a huge (for a baby) leap into the gentle waves.

Maybe!  He would find a fish and catch it!  This quest resulted in quite a bit of awkward paddling and bobbing around as he tried to work out how best to stay underwater long enough to accomplish anything.  His rump in particular didn't want to cooperate, but he was unphased.  He would figure this out!  He would get a fish, and he would share it with Saheth!  His blue brother shared his fine and excellent tastes, after all, and would surely appreciate the gesture.

There was so many people that Kleoth wanted to meet! She was itching to explore every inch of her home.... or, maybe she was just itchy? Though only a week old, Phryana was shocked by how much she'd already grown, and carefully oiled every inch of her precious lifemate--particularly around her head knobs and the base of her skull, as she'd learned from bathing Anakumath. Now they could go, and despite her excitement, Kleoth strode with a natural elegance that she hardly even seemed to be aware of. She caught sight of something in the distance, her now trotting towards the beach.

Tierboskath! She called in greeting, keeping her wings pinned firmly to her sides as she waded out into the ocean to join her blue brother. Are you seeing if you can't catch us another deep fish to enjoy? Kleoth hadn't gotten to taste the first one, too full from her hatching meal, but her other siblings seemed to take much joy in it!

Phryana walked quietly to the shore as her queen swam to join her brother, slipping her shoes off and gathering them in one hand to better enjoy the surf washing against her feet.

Kleoth! Tierboskath popped up out of the water to bugle a happy greeting to his golden clutchmate, eyes whirling happy colors. What a pleasure to see you, sister-mine: the sun and surf suit you well.

I do not think I can get deep enough to get to a deep fish, he answered, But perhaps a smaller fish? It would be good practice, although not enough to share with everyone. Would you care to try? Between the two of us, the fish wouldn't stand a chance!

Once he'd finally caught up to his dragon, Rio flashed their company a breathless smile. "Good morning, Phryana," he offered, though after a moment added, "If it is still morning. I've rather lost track."

And you, brother! But you draw the eye wherever you are, no matter the surroundings. It was no secret that her long-limbed brother seemed to embody grace. Rather than appear gangly, Tierboskath was delicate and lean. Admittedly, Kleoth thought all of her siblings were pictures of beauty in their own ways. No, I suppose not. She chuckled. I would love to! Come, let us see what we can do. She was paddling in earnest now, not quite so elegant in the water.

Phryana glanced sharply over at Rio for a moment, and the way her eyes wandered over him might have indicated more... suggestive interest. Gorgeous as he was, it was the furthest thing from her mind. "Rio," She greeted--and found herself smiling a little. "It is, yes. Hard to tell when one's day has been consumed by feeding, bathing, and oiling." Not that she minded, nor did she think she ever would.

"He's quite taken with the water," She commented with another tiny smile, letting her eyes return to the frolicking dragonets with a tenderness she never dared show in the open before.

The young blue received the compliment with a deep, appreciative thrum, and carefully paddled near enough to his larger sister to bump his head affectionately against hers. I could say much the same for you, sister, though you are especially well-suited to the sunlight. It gleams ever so well on your hide. The glittering of golden and bronze hides was best served by sunny days, which fortunately for those who enjoyed admiring them, was most days at Western. Tierboskath had an eye for all the very finest things, and that included no few of his siblings. Kleoth's company was most welcome in every respect. They are very quick swimmers! I have seen a few, but they have all gotten away before I could get after them.

Rio, not unlike Tierboskath, had very definitely noticed the, ahem, quality of all of their classmates, though anything past idle observation would be right out for the next half a Turn. And it was unquestionably worth it, to finally have his perfect His. "Isn't it?" He looked over to the partner he was spending so much of his time tending to and smiled fondly. "I'd helped before, but it's so much different when they're yours..."

Close as he was to Baihath - the white was as firmly his friend as any human - the depth of his bond with Tierboskath went beyond any friendship or even love he'd ever felt before. "He's in it every chance he gets. Not that I didn't already spend most of my rest days on the beach, so I can't say I blame him."

Kleoth accepted her praise in turn with a humble sort of grace, rumbling as she pressed her head back against her brother. Oh, I am just glad that we have such beautiful sunshine most days. Western's warmth was delectable, and so lovely to sleep in... Ah, but she tilted her head slightly at the mention of fish, eyeing the clear waters. There--she could see the flash of silvery bodies, and her neck snaked forward, jaws gaping wide.... and chomped down on nothing but water. She pulled her head up, shaking herself. I see what you mean. Kleoth sneezed, having a new respect for the swimming prowess for the finned creatures.

"Did you?" Phryana looked curious at that. "I was fortunate to assist with bathing and oiling once." A sweet young queen that had touched her with her kindness. Anakumath had unexpectedly touched her heart, and she was grateful.

She snorted quietly with amusement as Kleoth suddenly plunged herself in the water, smiling openly. "Well, then she'll always know where to find him." The gold wanted nothing more than to spend time with her siblings... even those who seemed less than thrilled with her presence.

Mine has some memories of colder places, and I must say they make me glad we have such fine weather here. Snow did look like it could be fun, but he would much rather live here on the beach and occasionally visit snow...when they were old enough to do so, of course. He watched Kleoth's attempt to snag a fish and hummed approval. That was close! You almost had it. A new flicker of movement caught his eye, and he made an attempt as well, but once again, fhe fish was just a bit too quick for the baby dragon.

"Mm," he confirmed with a nod. "Alya, ah-" There was a pause as Rio hesitated over the best term to use - they hadn't really discussed what they officially were, and, well. They weren't exactly exclusive. A chat was probably in order at some point, but would have to wait until Tierboskath was old enough. "One of my girlfriends. She Impressed a white from that Southern Boll clutch awhile back, Baihath. He's delightful."

"She might have to look for his tail, if he keeps up this obsession with fishing," he said with a chuckle, "But chances are he'll be here."

Oh, I can only imagine! Mine was there in High Reaches during the winters, and oh, how cold! I'm forever grateful for the sun here... and if it becomes too hot, a nice dip in the ocean solves that. Yes, Kleoth did not at all envy places that lacked Western's perfect climate. The gold arched her neck with excitement, watching Tierboskath eagerly--and crooned with encouragement when he missed. So close, my brother! One day, we'll become skilled hunters of fish and share our bounty with our family...

Phryana quietly arched a brow as he spoke of one of his girlfriends... but in truth, it wasn't her business. "I remember hearing of that one," She said thoughtfully, thinking. A white, hmm? In High Reaches, that would have been almost disgraceful.... but here in Western, no one minded. "I don't think I've met them."

She laughed quietly at that, imagining the sight of just a dragon tail bobbing in the ocean. "I think she'll be only too happy to join him, if what I'm feeling is right. If only they hadn't offered that deep fish at the feast...." Though her tone gave away nothing, her eyes sparked with amusement. She wasn't serious... though Kleoth still wondered to this day what it tasted like.

I would like to visit snow one day, just to see, but I do not think anything could be better than the beach. Besides, there are no fish swimming in the snow! He chortled with good humor, and dipped his head down to blow a few playful bubbles after the elusive fish. We will! We'll need an awful lot of fish for that, though - a pity you can't command them to be caught! That would be much easier. Alas, his golden sisters' abilities did not extend beyond other dragons.

Rio had spent enough time in a Weyr now that he tended to take for granted that their particular situation would have been quite scandalous most anywhere else, and thought little of referencing it. His only hesitation was what the proper term to use were. "You'd definitely remember if you had," he said with a grin, "They're hard to miss."

"She'll be welcome any time, I'm sure. There's not much he loves more than good company, and Kleoth absolutely qualifies." As for the deep fish, he couldn't help but laugh. "Sentenced to a lifetime with a fish-obsessed dragon, all because of one sharding deep fish."

I think I would feel too guilty to do that. She admitted, nudging her brother affectionately with her head even as he ducked back under the water. But I admit, it would make quite the feast for the Weyr if I were able...! In truth, her own ability made her uneasy at times. She remember how Leoth had lashed out without thinking, and to take free choice from anyone just seemed... incredibly wrong, even if it was for the greater good. Still, she would not hesitate to use it if it came down to saving one's life!

His easy nature and affection towards the pair in question was enough to make her lips quirk a little. "I'll have to keep a look out for them. Kleoth's determined to meet every single person in the Weyr..." Her words were laced with fondness even as she stared out at the pair across the ocean.

Her laugh was light, and she glanced up at the taller Weyrling with a slight grin. "The feeling is mutual, I think. She'd do anything for her siblings. And if that means becoming part part fish.... She'll do everything in her power to make it happen."

I suppose it is cheating, he admitted with a reluctant sigh, But it would be quite the feast. Do you suppose they'll have more deepfish at the next Feast? I would hate to think that I will never taste such a delicacy again. Rio had already warned him that even if it appeared in the future, it might not be for him to sample; they had been indulged because their Hatching was being celebrated, and very likely wouldn't be permitted the same going forward. But the blue continued to hope.

"Not a bad goal at all - quite a task, but I don't doubt it would be worth it." Ever sociable and delighted to be in the company of others, Rio knew no such thing as too many friends.

"We'll have to watch them in case they start sprouting fins," he said with a chuckle.

Kleoth's eyes whirled affectionately at Tierboskath's ponderings. Her brother did adore fish! If luck is on our side, perhaps. It does make a Feast seem rather special. She wouldn't be surprised if he somehow managed to fish up one of the rare creatures all on his own one day. You'll be the deepfish specialist of the Weyr, I think. She plunged her head under the water, snapping playfully at fish that darted just out of reach.

Phryana shook her head wryly. "I may have to begin keeping a list of names, at the rate she's going." She was good with details, fortunately, so it was hard for her to forget a face.

"Just one more thing to oil, I suppose." The woman said with mock-exasperation. She wouldn't trade even one inch of Kleoth's hide, but it was hard to believe that the small dragonet that had approached her on the Hatching Sands was already so big.

I knew when I saw it that it would be wonderful, Tierboskath remembered, eyes shining. It had been a most impressive sight, taking up an entire table of its own...how could it not have been the msot wondrous of delicacies? But the little fish are good, too. He dove to snap at another and...almost! He did succeeded in taking a piece out of its tail, but alas, that was not the delicious part that he was after.

"You may need a whole book, if she accomplishes her goal." While not the most populated of the Weyrs, Western certainly didn't lack for people regardless, with not only their riders but everyone required to support them all. The scale fo it was rather intimidating, when he thought about it - he didn't envy the Headman at all.

"Right?" Rio laughed at the observation. "I'm sure he'd be thrilled to have fins, anyway - one more thing to show off." His dragon knew full well that he was handsome, and he didn't doubt he'd be more than happy to display such fine new accessories as fins...and swim all the better for them!
