Walking through the familiar corridors of the ERA facility, Mika found that she was not quite ready to leave. After a month of being in Ohira, the girl was feeling home sick. The midnight beauty was most likely the only subject that missed the ERA facility. Unfortunately, this was the only home she had ever known and more than anything, she found comfort in the training facilities. Donning her ERA uniform that conformed to her adolescent curves, Mika was clothed from the neck down in black. Around her wrists were the infamous Rise Whips the scientists had developed for her. They had come in handy the last fight, but she found mobility with them to still be an issue. Also, her aim was off.

Wanting to expel her magic one last time before she had to go back to using constant restraint, Mika used the excuse of re-testing her weapon before leaving. Several practice dummies were lined up along the wall. Walking over to stand in line with the entire row, the girl began thinking. If she could use her current to hardened the wire, why not attempt curving it? If she could hit the second dummy without touching the first with her wire then she'd have more grappling options. Arm extending out, Mika let a small current of magic fill her wires. Before her, she visualized the path the wire would take around the first dummy. Closing her eyes, she kept the image in her thoughts. The hum of electricity soothed her, like the sound of a purring kitten. When she felt she was ready, Mika released the wire. The hardened tip pierced the side of the first dummy, slightly curving and hitting the center of the second. It was a slight success, but Mika would not be satisfied until she could perfect a precise crescent. Reeling in her wire, she'd try again.

Tobias Gowen

Subject:BERSERKER

The echo of bare feet slapping cold metal floor betrayed Tobias' presence. After being stuck in medical for days the delinquent had flown the coop first chance he got. He made an escape out from under the watchful eyes of Lilith and E.R.A doctors, sure to face punishment at a later date. Technically he wasn't currently under lockdown, bed rest had been strongly encouraged. There was only so much a wild animal could take before it had to run free. Stiff muscles ached to be worked out, calling him to the one place in this miserable hole that felt like home, the training facility. He had energy to burn, emotions to work through and no one to stop him. No time time like the present.

Tobias heard Mika before he saw her, the crackling of electricity and whistle of wire cutting through the air was unmistakable. Perfect. He had intended to track down Mika at some point, after what happened at the park he knew he had to learn to control his power. At least learn how to channel it into something more purposeful than a simple boost of strength. He watched silently for a moment as the little storm battered the training dummies, she would never hear it from him but he had to admit she was a hell of a fighter. Even if her technique and strength were lacking, that control over her power? It was no competition. He needed that kind of edge. The thought of a good sparring session was too much for the impatient brawler, he quickly found himself interrupting Mika's solitude.
"Oi! Killer! Think you can handle something that'll hit back?" It was a playful taunt, one that might have sounded unusual to an outsider. The pair were always pushing each other's buttons elsewhere, but here as sparring partners? That was a different beast entirely, they thrived on this.

The young man that addressed Mika looked a damn sight different than the last the time they met, almost like his normal self. He was barefoot, wearing a pair of bland looking pair of pajama pants that suggest he was straight from a hospital bed. There was however one very obvious difference; despite efforts to cover up with a jacket delivered by a kind soul, naked flesh peeking out underneath hinted at the beating he had taken. His face was the most obvious example, even shaded by hood in the harsh lighting it was plain as day. Fresh scar tissue crossed the bridge of his nose almost from ear to ear, intersected by a vertical scar than ran from left eye to lip. He looked lucky to not be blind or dead. The fact that he didn't remove his jacket in his usual habit before a fight made it clear these new scars were not something he was proud of.

"I kinda had an idea after our last fight, that ******** headbutt? That was brutal. I gotta figure that one out and I thought since you're always nagging me about my powers..." He trailed off his explanation with a shrug, followed by a sly grin. He knew Mika couldn't resist a chance to test her powers against his own. Of course he didn't know that wasn't their last fight. He had no clue Mika had met the berserker again in battle, each of them leaving their mark on the other.

Reeling in her wire after another unsuccessful crescent, she heard an all too familiar voice calling out to her. The taunt garnished a faint smile as the midnight beauty looked over her shoulder to the young man. Her intense hues illuminated with a heavenly violet as they took in Tobi's appearance. While many would fawn over him, insisting that he rest and recover, Mika knew her battle counterpart had taken all the bed rest he needed. There would be no glimmer of concern or worry emanating from Mika as the barefooted goon walked into the training facility. "Our last fight?" she scoffed under her breath, averting her eyes down to her wrist whips as she fiddled around with them.

Subject Rise had a decision to make and one that needed to stop being put off. How many times had she fought Berserker now? Three. Four. How many years had she known Tobias? Two. Three. Not once in that time or on those occasions had he realized what had happened when he lost control. Nor did Mika care to enlighten him. However, there were questions stockpiling over the years. And as discoveries she had made with each of their fights scattered about her thoughts like puzzle pieces, the girl still couldn't bring herself to have a damn conversation about it. Even now, underneath her training uniform was another mystery, the pendant she had acquired during the last fight. She had promised to confront about everything on her mind when the necklace had been repaired, but between scientists, doctors and Lilith being around him like clockwork, Mika hadn't gotten the chance.

Mika brushed off all the excuses.
"You? An idea?" she mocked playfully, stretching her arms over her head as she casually walked over to meet him. Chin craning around her collar bone, she cracked her neck before dropping her arms to her side. With only a few feet between them, Mika's hand flicked out. With a resounding flick, her middle finger hit him square in the forehead. "At least your heads good for something other than hitting," she joked, her words lacking their usual bite. It was evident that subject Rise was just happy to see Tobias moving about. The genuine upturn of her satin lips showed it. "Let's figure it out, then. A way to use your powers without you going Berserker, right? Keeping magic from going straight to your head is a good start," Mika re-instated the obvious as she shot Tobias a wink while taking a few steps back.

When she was satisfied with the gap, the infamous black wire shot out, grappling his wrist.
"Your muscles are always hot- Temperature wise. If its the same comparison to myself or Lilith, that means your mana is active and moving... Lilith is cold to the touch, I'm hypersensitive... The electrical pulses intensify my nerve endings, that's why I don't like to be touched," Mika admitted, remembering how their brawl in the backyard had ended. "Point is, once you recognize that sensation, you can flow with it and channel it," the girl tried to explain as she let a low voltage of electricity flow through the wires to his arm. "What made that headbutt so brutal..." the girl almost whispered, her voice carrying out on the back of the wire's hum as she slowly intensified the voltage, aiming to get Tobias to augment his arm, and only his arm. Thinking wasn't Tobi's strong point and since it had taken Mika years to control something as unstable as electricity, she knew interacting was better than sitting and meditating.

However, something was off about Mika. It would be annoying, like an itch one was unable to scratch. She was being helpful with little insult...

Tobias Gowen

Subject:BERSERKER

"Ha. Ha. Very funny..." Tobias spoke with a deadpan tone, already regretting asking Mika for help. She wasn't trying to antagonise him, he knew very well what that sounded like coming from her. Even he could tell Mika was acting differently, something was up. One thing he knew for sure was that Mika wasn't the kind to talk about her feelings, which was fine by him. He didn't particularly feel like talking about the s**t he had been through either so he was content to leave that potential drama hanging in the air. Regardless of the playful intention, mocking of his intelligence was one of his many sore spots. He tried his best to ignore it but the flick to the forehead and another quip about his capacity for higher thought made that very difficult. Brows furrowed and fists balled as the petulant youth tried to keep his temper in check. Already there was a rumbling in the back of his mind, a heat building.

"Use your powers without you going Berserker"

That helped him to focus a bit, calm down and remember what he was here for. He knew he had gone berserk at the park, that it had only made things worse, but he didn't know any of the specifics. He needed that power without Berserker taking over. At least he could tell the difference between friend or foe, mostly... Letting out a deep breath he didn't realise he was holding, he was about to ask her what she had in mind when she shot out a wire that snaked around his arm. The strangest sense of deja vu hit Tobias and he had to resist the instinct to yank on the wire and drag Mika off her feet. He was in a fighting stance without even realising it. Once again reminding himself of the purpose of this exercise, he held himself back as Mika proceeded to explain. Mana flow effecting temperature? Recognising and controlling it? What did that even mean? Sounded one step removed from the sciencey bullshit E.R.A researchers were always spewing. He had no concept of what that felt like, the effects of his powers was always present. The only time it ever felt any different was when he was getting really worked up or on the verge of going berserk and it wasn't exactly like he had the focus to register that concept in those states. Despite not really understanding he gave Mika a slow nod in confirmation. He figured the same thing as always would happen, this time he had to just pay attention to what that felt like and mimic it?

Electricity shot through his arm, nowhere near as bad as what he was used to. It was still an odd sensation, a pulsing that forced his muscles to tense as it ran through his body looking for the quickest point of contact to discharge. There was more to it than a simple electrical discharge, something about the mana flowing into and mixing with his own. He could feel it building, the excitement, physical augmentation wanting to push itself further and that voice in the back of his head. The beast felt hungrier than ever. As the voltage slowly ramped it became increasingly difficult to focus. Augmented muscles were expanding with the pulse of electricity, however there was no control, merely a reaction to the forces applied to the body. Worse yet, the pulsing was turning into a pounding beat in Tobias' head. Berserker wanted out. He didn't know what it was about Mika but ever since they began training it got easier to get worked up, easier to lose control. Maybe he knew the answer and just didn't want to admit it. Frustration growing over his inability to focus, with the noise in his head growing louder, he lost his patience and let out an infuriated cry.
As soon as the words left his mouth he threw his arm back with what he thought was the normal extent of his strength. He was so self consumed in his anger that he failed to realise the pulsing of muscles had stabilised in his arm, mana was rushing through his appendage, bulging it out unnaturally in comparison to the rest of his body. The mana burn pushed itself to the point of bleeding out from his arm in useless over expenditure. All of this happened in one explosive instant that resulted in a situation that would have felt very familiar to Mika. If she wasted a single moment detaching the wire she would be thrown into Tobias, who still had failed to realise what he had done.

Sharp eyes awaited the infamous zero to one hundred, watching carefully as magic enveloped Tobi's arm. In the instant the notorious hot head lashed out, Mika detached the wire. Thin brows furrowing in annoyance, the girl would not give him the gratification of a breather. she cried back, stepping towards him as a second wire zipped at his other arm. It had been a long 48 hours dealing with bitching, crying and finger pointing between the subjects. The midnight beauty would not forget the words she had blatantly spoke to the supervisor. Firmly, she believed Tobias, Eris and Emiko shouldn't return to Ohira. It was difficult for her to group him in with them, but her judgement couldn't turn a blind eye to the truth. "Shut up and get a grip on your emotions!" she barked at him, her patience as thin as his anger was hot.

"Or can't you?" Mika snaked her wrist around the wire, taking another step towards the young man shrouded by the shadows of his hood. Fine hairs stood up on the back of her neck as she began playing with fire. "You're addicted to the numbness, is that it? Letting Berserker deafen and take hold of all sensation so you don't have to?" she called him out, the light in her eyes burning with the hum of electricity as the weight of her words fell on his shoulders. Slowly, mother earth's invisible hand would grasp Tobias as Mika's magic surrounded him, pulling him down. "You- He came after me," she wasn't going to hold her tongue this time. She needed to confront him. Berserker recognized her and held a lust for extinguishing her existence. Is that what Tobias wanted?

"Savage. Hungry," tongue dancing behind her delicate lips, Mika began to describe the events of the other day. The wire pulled tighter as she slowly walked around him, consistently increasing the weight of the air with her magic. Chin lowering, Mika's gaze was unwavering contrasting heavily with her swaying hips. "With an appetite for eradicating my existence," her voice cracked, not from the pain of remembering the vengeful look Berserker had given her, but the fear at what could be the root of his rage; her. Emiko had accused Mika of agitating the beast before it had been unleashed. At first the instigator had laughed it off, but the more she thought about it, the more she began to believe those words. "Do you hate me?"

Heavier. The pressure was heavier than any flux Rise had created previously. For a moment, her eyes flickered allowing a glimpse at the scared little girl inside. Everyone at a distance, but she had been growing closer to Tobias. He was a monster, a reflection of how she felt on the inside. Her violence had fed off his temper. The source of his fury her ire. Where she thought she had a friend was an enemy. It reaped havoc on her resolve.
"If no, then what!?" she yelled at him, insecurities she wasn't aware of coming to bare. Seig's words she had attempted to ignore poisoned her weak heart. No one cares about us. He was right. They were so estranged that they didn't even care about each other. Mika cursed herself for ever giving a damn.

The line going slack was all the warning Tobias had. Turning his attention back to Mika, he barely had time to register the length of wire sailing towards his face. Augmented arm came up instinctively to protect his face, taking the full force of the impact. It sounded like a bullwhip hitting cattle, felt about as bad as it sounded too. Hurting himself only fueled the fire that was dangerously close to burning out of control. Distracted as he was Mika easily ensnared his other arm, yet more fuel to the fire. He could feel himself boiling over and when Mika chastised him in the same manner as the other subjects, those she considered weaklings, he lost it.

"Or can't you?"

In what seemed like a direct answer Tobias suddenly slammed his fist into the ground. All the wild magic running rampant through his arm bursting forth with such force that it cracked the hardened flooring, sending a shockwave through the room. The deafening roar of the magical explosion acting as the exclamation point to the brewing conflict. It sucked the air out of the room just as quickly, subsequent silence all the worse. It always was. He stayed knelt, motionless, wallowing in the pain as some of the rage bled away. He tried to hold onto it, too afraid of what might fill the gap it left.

Soft footfalls broke the silence. Mika might as well have been wearing those ridiculous high heels she insisted on fighting in. Every step pounding in the head of the scarred savage. Closer, louder, threatening a confrontation he wanted no part in. A confrontation the caged animal inside was positively salivating for. The shot rang out, an accusation that always sat on a hair trigger finally fired off. So close to the mark and yet so wrong. She was right about the detachment, wrong about the source. berserker taking over was a constant fear. It was his own direct detachment through his own rage he immersed himself in. Convincing himself he was a piece of s**t that only hurt people was easier than manning up and dealing with his emotions. That was why the threat of Berserker was always lurking. Too afraid of what lay on either side he lived on the razor's edge of disaster. In reality it just meant he experienced the worst of all of it, truly a foolish thing but then no one ever accused Tobias of being smart. The defense mechanism of a beaten dog, play the part you've been given, bite the hand even if it offers help.

Silence was the only answer Mika would receive, even as the oppression of gravity began to stamp the normally defiant young man into the ground. Tobias was seething with rage, how could she possibly understand? In another life he had tried to explain and where did that get him? Shunned, Medicated and finally locked away. Psych, god it was worse than Juvie... He knew were this was leading, he wasn't that stupid. He knew Berserker wanted to kill Mika, which meant they'd met before. He knew she had spent just as much time in medical as he did the first time he blacked out in training, although he didn't know she had died. It was all painfully obvious, he was just willfully ignorant, too stubborn and fearful to face the truth. Mika wasn't going to let him run from that truth any longer.

"You- He came after me,"

There it was, dreaded confirmation. Impromptu persecutor went on to describe the crime in detail but he knew. The hunger, savagery, Hatred? He could feel it all bleeding off the monster lurking just below the surface. He knew his rage should have been directed inwards, towards himself and the monster that shared his body. Berserker would have none of it, he was being consumed. The one act of defiance he had left was to hold on, let Mika say her piece and hope that she crushed every damn bone in his body to dust before he did it all again. The pressure had become so overwhelming he was forced to the floor, prostrated before judge, jury and executioner. Even though he couldn't see her face he could hear the pain in her voice as words faltered. The girl was hurting, not the weapon E.R.A called Rise but the young woman who wore that mask. The broken warrior had no comfort to offer other than his own pain.

"Do you hate me?"

Those words cut through the maddening rage in a moment of absolute clarity. Desperately he wanted to answer, a task made impossible by the devastating force of nature now threatening to crush organs and crack bones. Despair and pain paving the path to Berserker's freedom, an inevitability at this point. New strength burned through his body, preparing a fitting vessel for the arrival of havoc incarnate. It was too late. Brief respite in the eye of the storm fading, he had just enough control left for one last foolish act of stubbornness. If everything was about to go to s**t he sure as hell wasn't leaving it on that note.

With all the strength Berserker was ravenous to bring to bear upon the little storm, Tobias managed to pull himself to his knees and look Mika dead in the eyes. Hateful crimson slowly engulfed the mad b*****d's pupils, a look of fierce determination eaten away. Mika screamed one last question, only this time Tobias answered.
"Pain. In. The. a**." Every word was a struggle, forced through gritted teeth, but once they had been extracted a faint glimmer of mischief twinkled in his eye before all signs of humanity were choked out.

As soon as the words left his mouth Tobias threw himself into the ground headfirst. All of the terrifying power both Rise and Beserker's magic could muster came together in a perfect harmony of pure destruction. a truly thunderous crack echoed throughout the facility as notoriously hard head met immovable object. The shockwave utterly dwarfed the previous one and threatened to knock Mika off her feet as it roared past, tearing up the ground as it went.

When the dust settled Tobias was lying in the impact crater on his side, blood trickling from a fresh head wound and forming a small pool in the epicenter. He looked otherwise normal, all signs of Berserker's presence gone. An odd look of peace and perhaps a hint of smugness hung over the idiot who had just knocked himself out cold. Turns out Mika was wrong, letting magic go to his head was the right move.

The parting floor stretched out like an arc of lightning, chaotically dancing around the midnight beauty. As raw power rushed through the air, it thrashed her silken locks against ivory skin. The first gust caused Mika's heart to race, adrenaline seizing her nerves as the enigma before her bowed down to his knees. Mouth dry and throat strained, a stinging sensation caused her eyes to weaken. Get up. In her mind she begged, pained by the sight of him and fearing the energy pouring into his veins. Atomic fire scorched his flesh, burning form the inside out. She could feel it through the mixing of magics and knew the inevitable was coming. Blood thirst beyond that of a predator radiated from the behemoth, magic growing more wild and powerful by the second.

Outstretched arm began to shake, foolhardy with emotion while the hulking figure battled against the forces of nature to stand. Malevolent and spiteful, his searing hues continued to grow with resent as they met hers. The look caused her lip to tremble, as the ferocity in his eyes bit into her. Unable to swallow the lump in her throat, the little storm choked as a stream of saltwater rolled down her flushing cheeks. Biting back her quivering lip, her arm started to go limp as Tobias struggled to say four words. "Pain. In. The. a**." His answer did not grant relief, but fueled her anger.
she yelled at him, forcing the final push of magic to crush every bone in his body before Berserker could take hold. But, she froze unable to do so as the fading glint in his eye caught her attention.

More vicious than a ravenous storm, thunder roared while turbulent gales thrashed the room as the sickening crack of a skull echoed. Clashing magics assaulted the air, popping eardrums with convulsing pressures until their discord unified. Shards of earth broke free, tearing apart the floor at Mika's feet. If it were not for the wire wrapped around her wrist, the girl would have gone flying. Instead the monstrous combination of magic ripped into her flesh, knocking her to the ground. Stunned by the nightmarish combination of power, it took the silence of the dust settling to call Mika back to her senses.

Picking herself up, she coughed to clear her lungs. Weary eyes following the wire still around her wrist, she caught sight of Tobias within the clearing dust. To her feet, she limped and stumbled her way down to his side. What she saw caught her off guard. That pompous look on his face was enough to make her want to punch him, but the natural tranquility of his physique caused the blockage in her throat to give way. The midnight beauty sobbed, falling to her knees beside his unconscious form.

Pulling the edge of her sleeve taut, Mika lifted his head. Sticky rouge bled through the fabric as she pressed her palm against his fresh wound. Warm droplets fell from her elegant jawline onto his face as she huddled over him. From the confines of her shirt, the pendant Tobias always donned danced above him. Repaired and polished, the girl had done her best to fix what she had broken with every intent to give it back after confronting him.
"H-Hey," she fought back her tears while coming to realization of what he had just done. Wiping her nose against her shoulder, Mika sniffled. "I... " she started, but was unable to form words. The girl wasn't even sure what she wanted to say. Closing her eyes, she simply let trails of tears fall. Emiko was right. It Mika's her fault. She was the stressful element, the pain in the a** and the wolf that terrorized the flock of sheep. When they got back to Ohira.... she would distance herself from the other subjects. Especially, Tobias. For his sake.

The pattering of warm rain drops stirred the giant from his slumber. Peace never lasted long when Tobias was involved. Dazed, unfocused eyes fluttered open, all signs of the raging inferno inside well and truly snuffed out. Senses returning, eyes came to focus on the shining object infront of them. For a moment he was in another time and place, lost in the hypnotic swaying of the pendant. A soft smile spread across grim face. Catching his own reflection in the mirror polish of his precious memento brought him back to reality, that face didn't belong to that time. Perhaps more unusual than the utterly foreign expression on his face was the fact it lingered even after the fog cleared. Priceless treasure thought lost was in the care of the girl who reflected so much of his worst traits right back, maybe there was hope yet. The splashing of tears upon his face, mixing with trickle of blood and running down bare chest, finally replaced uncharacteristic smile with a much more familiar look of brooding. The necklace was the only thing that wasn't broken here.

What came next was more earth shattering than the apocalyptic display of magic just prior. Tobias sat up and pulled Mika into a tight hug, Ignoring the prickle of magical static that suddenly lit up between the two. He couldn't deal with people crying, more than enough of that had happened over the last few days. They both hated this kind of thing but ******** it, everything was messed up and that's what normal people did to comfort others right? Oh how the mighty warrior had fallen, years without any display of affection and then suddenly so much in as many days.
"I'm not going to tell you it's okay, because it's not. We're both ******** up and I don't have the answers you want." The words were harsh but his tone was not. All the emotional turmoil in the world couldn't change who they were over night. There was no more comfort to offer, only some truth of his own. Almost as suddenly as the completely out of character display was made he recoiled from it, pulling away from the hug and distancing himself from Mika. "I'll figure this s**t out but until then, well..." He paused to look back down at the girl. He didn't need to say it, Mika was thinking the same thing. They were too dangerous together, lucky today had ended with minimal bloodshed. "I don't do promises, but you keep that. I'll be coming back for it." As he spoke those words he pointed to his prized possession still dangling from Mika's neck. It was the closest thing to a promise he would make, leaving her with one of the only things he cared about. On his way out the door he paused a moment to say one last thing before disappearing into the halls." I don't hate you Mika."

Vision blurred from bitter tears, Mika kept fighting back the onslaught of defeat through strained breaths. Suddenly, another eruption of dust flooded the air from the two bodies colliding. Without struggle, Mika felt her cheek press against his chest as she was drawn in by a sincere embrace. Eyes wide, lungs paralyzed and body overwhelmed by the unfamiliar feeling, everything ceased to exist save the electricity dancing between the blood stained beast and the midnight beauty. Mika was unsure what to do or even say. Nerves firing off in a chaotic array, it was too much for her to return the sentiment, but she did not pull away. The forked tongue devil kept silent and listened to what Tobias had to say.

"I'm not going to tell you it's okay, because it's not. We're both ******** up and I don't have the answers you want."

Such words should not have offered any comfort, but to the estranged girl who could hear the resounding tone in his voice, they did. Eyes softening after the shock of surprise, tension gave way allowing her firing nerves to smolder into a feeling of bittersweet contentment. But, it was only for a moment. Pendent dancing as Tobias abruptly retracted, Mika felt the weight of the item fall on her chest in place of his warmth. Eyes followed him as he distanced himself until he paused to look back down at her. Averting her gaze, the girl couldn't make eye contact after that. He continued to speak and she would listen, lightly placing a hand on the necklace as he pointed at it. With a single nod, she gave notion that everything he said was understood.

" I don't hate you Mika."

Eyes burning once again, she did not call out after him or make a statement of her own. She had said enough already and now they were on the same page. Finding peace in the silence, the girl would gather her broken parts. With solace in the fact she wasn't hated, Mika was able to put the words of Emiko and Sieg to rest. Rising from her knees, she would face the world of Ohira with new resolve... away from the other subjects. Letting her hand fall from the necklace, she did not tuck it away. Time to figure her own s**t out.

Wow! Kyrie was in a totally fantastic mood. She had rolled out of bed with perfect hair. The blemish on her cheek was gone. Her skin was feeling fresh and rejuvenated from a good night's sleep. Plus, she smelt so good. The package of perfume she had ordered a month ago finally got past security. Bombshell Intense Eau de Parfum by Victoria's Secret. She wondered if Ace would notice? Would he like the smell? Pouring a cup of coffee from the break room, Kyrie mixed in some sugar. Maybe he liked her natural scent? What did she smell like naturally? In fact, what did Ace smell like without sweat, blood or dirt on him? It had been awhile since Kyrie had been physically close to him while not on the battlefield. Oh, baby... the last time he was training with the Mages he was dripping from head to toe with his shirt off-

SLAP!

Heads turned to look at the scientist as she smacked herself across the face with the palm of her own hand. As hot as Kyrie was, everyone deemed her a little kooky for the way she acted. As soon as they saw it as Kyrie making the fuss, they went back to their own conversations. "Bad Kyrie! Behave! Focus. Focus. Focus!" she commanded her stubborn a** self! There was much to do and little time to do it. Hormones were not allowed to seize her thoughts today! She had been told there was an urgent matter in the lab to attend to.

Speed walking her tailfeather to the lab, she swung open the door, her white coat dancing around her knees. "A-A BODY!?" she cried, glasses sliding down her nose as she looked at the pouring guts and ravaged flesh exposed on an autopsy table. "My, my you are a doctor! Yes, Agent Yokyrie. Its a body. Unidentified and found several miles out north of town. There have been reports of 2 missing students from Shiri Gakuen. This is one. Properly identify him and his means of death." The head of the lab chatised her as always, but made his point. Pushing her glasses up and composing herself, Kyrie couldn't help but let out a little smirk. "Means of death must be an Empyrean if its sitting in my lab," she told him rather slyly as she set her coffee down to gather notes. "North of town..." she muttered to herself, pulling up the location logs of the Mages in Shiri. Tachibana Aru was in that general area last night. And he spent most of his time with... "Was Nobu Yuki one of the reported missing? I'll do a little digging around to confirm, but this may be him." Swiping her screen, she pulled up a call to another agent.

"Agent Spade, this is Agent Yokyrie. Please secure Mage Willow. Question whereabouts of Nobu Yuki and his last twenty-four hours. If confirmed contact within last twenty-four hours, bring back to UDA base for protection and further questioning. Please update me as you see necessary." There was no time for sweet talk or flirting with this call. Once she had Ace's confirmation, she'd hang up promptly and begin sterilization. "Anything else before I begin?" Kyrie asked the head of science as she held her gloves ready to dive in. "Thank you for your hard work, Agent. I'll be awaiting your discoveries." Alone in her lab, Kyrie waited before the door shut to let her guard down. Sad eyes welled with tears, but not enough to fall. "I'm sorry, child. I hope they are wrong about your death... for everyone's sake. Rest in peace," she spoke softly before both hands began cleaning up the rotting corpse.

Using all the UDA technology at her disposal, Kyrie was able to figure out a lot about the heap of chilled meat on her lab table. It was indeed Nobu Yuki. After being able to piece back together major bone components, face recognition programs were giving her a 70% match to the student. Kyrie had also checked out the local medical records. Seemed Nobu wasn't the most athletically inclined kid because he had smashed his foot as a kid- making it hard to run. The body's feet was one of the few things left semi-intact. Figuring out who it was had been the easy part, but now Kyrie had to question why?

The Empyrean had ripped around his flesh- it didn't eat it. Major muscles and organs were accounted for. Cannibalism was ruled out. Reporters and local investigatation had it wrong. They were probably trying to spin an interesting story for attention. Whatever, Kyrie was interested in the facts. Test after test she ran trying to find something to give her a lead. "AHA!" she chirped, finding the most insignificant piece of evidence. "You are totally and unbelievably peculiar little guy," she spoke to an itty bitty flake of crystalline laying in a petri dish covered in blood.

UDA tech could detect gate energy, which is how they found all the mages. But Kyrie had believed there to be two types of energy. Active & Dormant! It'd explain why they couldn't always find Empyreans lurking in the shadows. They were able to put their mana to rest! Dormant and inactive made it undetectable by their equipment. Mages had a constant flow of active mana they coudln't shut off. Now she had evidence to the theory... this little shard was a piece to the LOVE PUZZLE Kyrie theorized!

Nobu Yuki had dormant crystallized mana in his body. The Empyrean came to harvest it. Like some kind of fruit! Total simple- MAYBE. It could be battery? Was it an affliction from the gate opening? DID THE EMPYREANS SOW SEEDS IN HUMANS TO HARVEST THEM? "Ohmygod. Ohmygod. This could be big," Kyrie paced back and forth around her lab, biting her finger nails while staring at the petri-dish of power. She needed a Mage! She needed to test her theory!

Phone rang, Kyrie answered it quickly.

Quote:
"This is Agent Spade. Positive match on Nobu Yuki's Sunday evening route. Mage Willow is in transport to Z03. His story was innocent enough, but two things stuck. Seemed Nobu was hearing things. Something along the lines of a music box chord or singing. The sound was unclear to Nobu and he couldn't describe it to Willow. Our kid never heard it. Also. . . Aru looks sick. Anemic. Nauseous. Lips pale. Palms sweaty. Stomach pains."

Kyrie was aching to tell Ace what she had discovered, but he couldn't afford to be distracted! There was an Empyrean on the loose. "Thank you for the report. I've confirmed the identity of Nobu Yuki. Mage Willow will be intercepted with care. I've also confirmed this is an Act of Gate- An Empyrean is on the loose, and if my current theory as to why it was Nobu Yuki who was dismembered is correct, the Empyrean is a Rank 2 or higher... Agent Spade, I advise you have a Mage with you to investigate the location in which they found Nobu Yuki's body. This time, I want you to search with the equipment specifications I will be forwarding to you," Kyrie put in him speaker, making sure he understood or waited for any questions as she typed in the specifications. It was totally awesome Spade trusted her. Made her work easier. She had a super hard time explaining herself. Hanging up the phone, Kyrie adjusted her glasses. "Time to play Mama!" she said with a super serious tone. Kyrie was about to intercept Mage Willow and break the news.

Hanging up the phone, Kyrie adjusted her glasses. "Time to play Mama!" she said with a super serious tone. Kyrie was about to intercept Mage Willow and break the news.

Mage Willow sat in one of the many offices in Z03. He was dripping with sweat and chilled to the bone, but he had no fever. All his vitals checked out, except for his mana readings. They were chaotic and unstable. Agents stood on edge, nervous he might go atomic. Four agents in one small 8 x 8 room with a mage!? How'd you expect someone to relax in a tiny box like that!? Kyrie walked in and her nose was instantly violated by the smell. "Whoo eeee! It smells like the men's locker room in here- GET YOUR HANDS OFF THAT!" Kyrie slapped the hand of an agent who's hand rested on the gun in his holster. "Out, out. Out! I need to talk to my baby boy," she shooed them all out, even slapping one on the a**. With her authority she could get away it- and she probly fulfilled a fantasy. Slamming the door, Kyrie locked it from the inside with her finger scan. Only the head of the science department could get in now. "Well, my darling child-"

"Where's Nobu?" Mage Willow's stomach was churning. He had hurled several times in the ride back to Z03, but now with Kyrie here he felt a little better. Still, his brows furrowed and he was dead serious. He needed his friend. "Spade woke me up and started questioning me. I... How can I help?" he wasn't sure what was going on. He'd never felt like this before. He felt like a piece of his soul was shattering he was dying from a broken spirit. "Is it an Empyrean... The way other Mages describe it... I... "

"Sh," she put a finger to his lips to silence him in a tender and gentle way so he wouldn't panick or fight back. Kyrie picked up on every psychological cue she could and as a doctor, she knew his anxiety was affecting his physical condition. His lips were dry, but she could feel his pulse jump all over the place! What she was about to do was going to be extremely daring, but her woman's intuition had a hunch her theory was going to shine in this moment! "Tell me what you feel, Aru," she sprung a surprise hand grab and slapped her palm against his. Not even Uda's cameras would pick up on what she had done- the itty bitty shard she had found in the corpse was against her skin and now pressing into Willow's. It had zero affect on Kyrie. SHE EVEN PUT IT IN HER MOUTH. Nothing happened and it had zero flavor. But for some reason, she thought Willow's reaction would be different.

And it was. Hot. Kyrie would be able to feel the heat from the shard as it sat in Willow's clammy hands. Yet, the sweat would reside and his temperature would even as the shard's heat went beyond all physicality and soothed Aru's distress. "Y-Yuki?" pools of salt would form within the seagreen hues of Mage Willow as his pupils shrunk and then equalized. One bat of his lids would cause tears to fall over his pale cheeks. Harder and harder he gripped Kyrie's hand to the point he was starting to hurt her and his veins... They stretched out from under his skin like the vines of a plant, enveloping Kyrie's arms slowly. She'd have the chance to let go and pull away.

Kyrie didn't let go. Instead, she wiped the tears clean from Willow's face. "Sweetie, talk to me. Do you see him? Can you hear him? How can I help him? " Kyrie said all this sincerely, knowing damn well he was dead. Willow still didn't know though. She suspected he didn't understand what was going on. In fact, no one really knew what the heck was going on! Could she make any sense of it or would she die by his hands?

There was banging on the door the moment Willow's powers activated, but the kid didn't notice. He was zoned out, like he were watching a movie. "Its... Its like a daydream. I'm... in class looking at myself. Two back two over. I just stood up to read an entry from our literature. I'm- his heart is beating so fast! This is Yuki. I'm.. Haha," Willow looked down when he laughed, feeling a sense of comfort for only a second before noticing his powers creeping out to grip Kyrie's arms. The beating on the door- Oh, no! "I'm! I'm! I'm so sorry! Please- I didn't mean to!" Willow knew what it meant for a Mage to use their powers on an Agent. He'd be killed. They'd come in gun's blazing if he didn't stop! BUT HE COULDN'T. Oh, no! Oh, no! There was so much mana between his and Kyrie's hand- How. he finally screamed, trying to pull his hand away from Kyrie's. In a desperate attempt, he mutilated himself- tearing his own veins. Dark green blood gushed from his hand as he fell over his chair and scrambled against the wall. But... there was still something in his palm. Although his flesh was searing with pain- still the daydream, the feeling- The fluttering heart.

Ohmygod. Kyrie's own heart was racing as she heard the description Willow gave her. Two back!? TWO OVER!? That's where Nobu Yuki sat in comparison to Aru. Kyrie was a total stalker. She knew everything about every class mate and every Mage in her experiment. She spent every waking moment watching and analyzing data- down to their locations, sleeping habits and web browsing history (SHE KNEW SOME MAGES GOT RATHER CURIOUS WITH THE PC'S NOW THAT THEY HAD FREE RANGE OVER THE INTERNET). The banging on the door really pissed her off. She really wished she had a button to shock the security agents into silence some days! "EVERYTHING IS OKAY. GO AWAY," Kyrie hollered at the top of her lungs, the screeching sound threatening to burst ear drums if they didn't back OFF and let her do her damn thing.

"Aru, sweetie!~" Kyrie cried, hugging him even after all the drama, blood and obvious breaking of the UDA rules. It was all good. Kyrie wasn't afraid of her baby. She held him super close, cupping his injured hand- but in a WAY he could see what was in his palm. "Darling, your tears aren't going to stop," she comforted him, but at the same time warned him of what she was going to say next. "That's a piece of Nobu Yuki. Hide it. Keep it safe, honey... I think someone else has the rest," the loving scientist told him, petting his neon head, unafraid of how he would react to what she said. Dude, he knew what was going on. He was just a kid though! He had to work through these things.

Kyrie would be able to feel his body heat up. All his worries and concerns pointed to the truth, but he couldn't accept it, until now. Yuki was dead, but he lived on in a way... in a way only Willow could understand. "An Empyrean... has the rest," he said, his tears not stopping as he stood up from his spot on the floor, hoping Kyrie would help him up and do something about his arm.

And she tots would! "Then let's get 'em, baby boy!"

Doctors. Ace wasn't a fan. Needles. They didn't phase him. Antiseptic. Gasai hated the smell of sterilization. Clearly, this wasn't his first rodeo. Tests and psychological interviews were second nature. After every battle against an unknown entity; whether it was Mage or Empyrean 24hrs of lock down awaited him. In quarantine, he sat alone. Laptop on a desk over his lap, he scrolled through footage from his live feed and Kabuto Ikki's phone. It was unwise to let the teenager leave with it, but Ace was sure the boy was being tested. The kid was outgoing, energetic and not phased by the death and destruction Magic sowed. Gasai was in the room after the park incident. Kabuto had jumped up from his seat ready to sign up and join UDA. Too excitable. He didn’t fit the bill to become an agent in Ace’s eyes.

The footage. Frame by frame, quarter screen at a time, the agent memorized the battle. He hadn't realized Sato Eris used her powers beyond barriers. Consciousness had been fading. He didn't see Ginma Masaaki get the shards. Many things he wasn't aware of even though he had been there. The feed filled in the blank spots. Hardest part about it; Willow. Bullet in the kid's skull. It played on an endless loop. It had been seven years since he was forced to kill a Mage. A kid. He knew they were mortal. They were human. He struggled with it. Wounding the Mage wouldn't have done the trick. The power he was given from the shard was unrealistic. It was more than Haruno and Sato received from the boys. They still breathed because of Aces decision. Still. . . "You shouldn't have been out there, kid," Spade surmised, pausing the loop with Willow's body on the ground. . . the other four unharmed.

Fix This

Peace and quiet did not befall him. A certain stubborn woman broke his quarantine and entered the room in a rage. "You b*****d!" a heated palm made his head turn as it slapped him across the face. "How could you kill Willow!? How could you!? All he wanted was to find what was left of his friend!" agent Valkyrie's voice trembled as well as her hands as they grabbed Ace by the loose fitted cotton of his shirt. His weary eyes looked into hers. She was overflowing with emotions. The woman was furious. She was crying and Gasai doubt she even knew it.

Hands reached, they grabbed her wrists. Prying them away from his shirt, blood seeped through the bandages to stain the cloth. "Stricken by grief. Unstable power from a shard you knew nothing about- Willow tried to slaughter Psi and Spark. Take responsibility for sending an unstable and inexperienced Mage into battle with immense power against an Empyrean, Agent Valkyrie," he would not show her mercy. Ace would not soften his words.

And this is where they always clashed. Their perspectives were too far apart on different ends of moral spectrum and point of view. "If I didn't force my hand, Sato, Haruno, Kabuto, Ginma and myself would not be breathing right now. Your recklessness nearly got us ALL KILLED!" he kept an even tone until his last words and could no longer keep from raising his voice. Throwing her hands away from him, the force would only push her back slightly. He turned his head away, ashamed to have gotten worked up so easily.

Kyrie stood quiet. She battled guilt. The doctor would not let it win. Chin held high, she did not show fault."It was a dangerous decision. But, I trusted you to handle it, Agent Spade," white sleeves wiped away her tears. She would not take responsibility for Willow's death. She didn't pull the trigger.

Ace sat quiet. He battled guilt. The soldier would not let it win. Chin held high, he did not show fault. "It was an impossible situation. I trusted you not to put me in it again, Kyrie. . ." Gasai had accepted his choices and there was nothing she could say to shake him. Five lives continued because of his decision to pull the trigger.

Sniffling, choking, she wanted to yell at him more, but guilt finally broke through her stubbornness to crushed her spirit. Seven years ago, when he was an operative on the Retainer Squad, he confessed with a heavy heart how killing kids was going to break him. Kyrie had made a promise to never let it happen again. She broke it. Turning her back to him, she couldn't face him. Sleeves covering her mouth she stopped herself from crumbling in front of him. "They won't let me see Mika. Please. . . check on her when you have time."

Not another word would be said. Kyrie retreated, closing the door with force. Hand over his chest, he felt the warmth of his own blood stain his hand red. Reaching for the red buzzer, he pressed it to call a nurse. "Redress my wounds and ready a wheel chair," he ordered through the intercom. Steel your heart, agent.

Retreated to her office! "I'll show him! Gun crazy testosterone driven hulk brain ice king. IS HE EVEN HUMAN!?" Kyrie's mood had gone sour super quick like. She never spent much time mad at herself because she always turned it outwards to blame someone else. What Ace had said to her really struck a chord. "Does he not trust me anymore? He blames me? I'm reckless? I'm reckless! He took an asthmatic highschooler out to investigate an Empyrean. Someone complete helpless and I send an able-bodied mage with- with, with... Dammit!" she kicked her chair, upset she couldn't even justify her actions to herself. Denial was a lovely river in Egypt, one Kyrie bathed herself in regularly. "Unstable power from a shard I know nothing about- Well, I'll figure it out then!" in her tantrum, she slapped on some gloves and whipped open the specimen cooler.

Her baby Willow was on ice. She had shed enough tears and came to terms with it over the last 24hrs. Now, she was all worked up and ready to make Ace eat his words. "You're not dying for nothing, baby boy," she growled angrily under her mouth, removing the cloth protecting his decomposing body. Pulling over her tool bench with all kinds of sharp knives, hooks, prongs and varies saws, Kyrie's focus went right to his hand! "After watching the live feed from Agent Spade, the Blood Hound picked up high energy readings in Willow' hand. This is where he was holding the shard I gave him from Nobu. As previously recorded, Willow could see a memory through Nobu's eyes when he held the shard. He knew it was Nobu. I hadn't told him the specifics of the shard or how I came about it, but he was convinced Nobu still lived after holding it," Kyrie was talking to herself, recording the whole process as she cut away the skin around the shard embedded in his hand.

"The shard has changed shaped since leaving the lab. I had performed thermal tests on it before giving it to Nobu, which all proved negative. However, the shard appears to have melted," the woman speculated, kicking away from the corpse table and skating across the room on her chair to grab a microscope. Rolling back over to the table, she held it up to the shard. "Need verification from another biologist, but I speculate the change in composition has something to do with the shard no longer containing energy... Like he drained the contents of the shard into his mana stream to become more powerful. . . " Kyrie trailed off, pulling her glasses down dramatically. "This is what the Empyrean was after. I need to document and present this. Maybe get another Mage to meld with the shards... one who hasn't shown dangerous abilities... Gotta work on permissions first- Oh, wait. They're expecting my theories on Psi and Spark first. Uuuuuuuhn~! I NEED A DOPPLEGANGER! " Kyrie shouted in frustration because she didn't have four hands and two heads to split her interests.
