Prompt:
Wintertime in the Kawani is in full swing, and February is no exception! A strong snowstorm and cold front has blown into the lands, blanketing much of the land in white. Some areas have completely been overwhelmed by snow--and places that are typically warmer or never see the stuff have also been covered in the white stuff.

How is your Soquili handling this snowstorm? Were they caught unaware? Are they experiencing snow for the first time, or are they used to it? What do they do now that they're living in a winter wonderland?

The world was a soft, quiet place in the moment, or at the very least it appeared to be; fluffy white snow caressed the Kawani lands like a soft blanket, the snow night pristine, save the occasional hoof trail of caribou, or deer; sometimes the pawprints of raccoons and ferrets kissed the snow instead, delicate and gentle, but rarely were there Soquili tracks in the area, or maybe it was because one Soquili in particular kept kicking up the snow.

Kes absolutely hated this. She'd seen the feathered edges of clouds and knew they meant cold but she didn't usually see snow, fleeing the winter's chill for the wasters of the voast. But not this time. No, this time Kes assumed the clouds were harmless and was rewarded with being cold. Everything was cold and Kes was not happy. She roamed alone, usually looking for her family, hoping for her family, but she remained ever alone, and in the snow that came this time, she was cold and wondering if she should stop seeking a herd with her family and just find some Soquili who liked arts abd music and didn't make faces if she crunched a spicy pepper now and then. Every so often the mare spread her wings, flaring them before beating them in protest to the cold breeze as her tail trailed in the snow. The end result was always 'snow clouds' but the movement helped keep her warm enough to look for something warmer.

Kes folded hert wings again after one such display of "Snow Sucks", and fluffed her feathers up completely before sighing, pausing for the moment to look around, and mope.

"Good job, Kessy," She finally said to herself. "Your bullheaded detyermination to find your Ma and brother just landed you in a blizzard. Well done, idiot. Well... Maybe there's somewhere warm nearby." She sighed, and looked around. "Or a herd that won't blink twice at you... Something."

Sparks escaped his nostrils as he breathed, the black and yellow frilled suti wandered a bit, mostly from tree to nearby tree as he pulled branches here and there. Some giving easily, others taking a little more effort. Frowning at those that refused to release their hold on the tree itself. "Things are lucky I don't try and burn down the whole forest. Winter is always the best time for it, all the ash and crispy critters." the stallion shouted at the trees before moving away a sizable amount of branches under one large leathery wing.

This sudden cold snap struck the lands without little warning and the falling of snow that came with it... Just made things even worse. While Inferno had little trouble with the cold, his inner fire kept him warm enough. Really at times too warm as he always escaped to the colder outside to cool off. Shaking his head, he headed back to the hole he called home. It was on the edges of his parent's lands. Spyro and Cynder were most likely with the rest of the family and keeping warm in their own way. Or... Or they were out tormenting some other fool who got lost in the weather.

Snorting again, a bit of flame escaping him this time as he laughed at his own humorous thoughts. While he shared some of their delights in tormenting others. Setting fires and the like, just right now he was more interested in keeping the snow out of his home. The winds were doing a wonderful job causing it to drift in. Pausing, ears flicking slightly, Inferno glanced around. He could have sworn he had heard someone... Had someone found themselves in the cold after all?

"Hello?" He called into the bitter cold.

Nope. The cold was absolutely offensive to the WindKelpi, from the flakes that settled on her hide to how it melted and made the air colder feeling. Everything was little tiny needles that prickled and poked, which wqhile not literal and she had awareness that others would just say 'Well that's the cold', she was still aware was how it seemed to her.

Ugh, she hated all of this, and the normally cheery mare's ears pinned themselves into her hoof-length mane indignantly, affording only her ears warmth to any degree, which set her tail lashing, if only a moments before hearing a 'Hello?' out in the weather. Almost immediately she raised her head a bit, ears pricking and swivelling towards the sound with a curious attentiveness, and, tyrue to her usual mentality, she tried to look utterly nonplussed and friendly as she trot towards the sound.

"Oh! Hello there! I'm not intruding am I?" What emerged wasn't Kes covered in a fleck of white or two, what emerged was a lot of ice, damop, and snow in the shape of the mare they covered, making most of her look black-ish with blue-ish undiscernable markings for all the snow, a frilled finned tail from her Jelpi side, and feathers that were fluffed like a bird after a bath or trying to look big, all with, ironically, a clear black mane and nigh neon blue bangs with matching blue eyes that were trying to smile, except when she tried smiling at the stallion, a gust came in and chilled her and immediately she spread her wings. This time, she thought better than to create a flurry to try shaking clear, instead opting to shake, sending things less far than before with a look of frustration. "Oof, sorry -- Hello! It's nice to see someone else out here!" And she managed to smile, even if she wasn't happy with the weather -- friendliness avoided most fights!...Most. She hoped he wasn't the hostile type.

He was just about to turn back around as something or someone spoke through the gusts of wind that rattled the branches around him. Frowning slightly as something emerged from the tree line and into the area he was standing. It looked like another soquili, at least in shape. The colors were not all that strange to him, being of a dark hue with brighter hued scales. Ears perched forward just before a gust of wind blew past. Instinctively a wing came up to protect his face with a leathery shield. When it passed he looked back towards the mare.

"Many things trespass, but it is too cold to make everything crispy." He grumped, though it wasn't towards anyone. "As it seems that this cold weather doesn't agree with too many of your kind. Feathers only warm so much."

Adjusting the wing that held a bundle of wood close to his body, Inferno turned slightly back towards where some could see a faint glow. It seemed that the wind had tried taking out his fire once again. That and the wood he had stored was starting to go low with how much he was always piling on... Not that it was really needed, not with his inner fire keeping him warm.

"Come on, too cold out here to talk. Also don't feel like having a sculpture of a foolish mare on my front lawn either." Inferno said as he turned, a wing motioning the mare to follow.

Stepping through the snow, his head lowered slightly as he puffed small plumes of smoke from his nostrils, Inferno entered the small dug out hole in a hillside. While it wasn't that deep, well enough for a single soquili most the time, but space enough to add another. The floor was well packed dirt and covered with a couple medium sized pelts from who knew what. In the center of the cave, if you want to call it that, was a small fire. One that was almost nothing but coals, dropping the wood to the ground with a clatter. Inferno started piling smaller branches on the dwindling flame to try and build it back up.

Kes listened, giving the stallion her full attention politely. Normally, the mare was the energetic sort, almost bouncing when she walked, but normally she wasn't out in a blizzard that kept her from finding a warm space. The clouds were cold, so her wind bloodline was useless. The surfaces of her usual lakes and rivers were icy or frozen, leaving her kelpi side useless -- and the scales were colder than her coat or wings. Thankfully, her hair was a toss away from shielding her face enough her face wasn't as bombarded by the elements, and she shut her eyes against the blizzard a moment before looking to Infwrno.

She generally tried not to intrude on territories. Kes wasn't sure how other Soquili might respond to a normally bouncy, fearless, socvial mare, but today she was pared down by the weather merely to 'friendly', which, truthfully, was part of her core being,.

"My apologies." Kes remarked at his comment about intruders. She decided adding 'It's too bloody snowt ro see' might seem like an excuse, no matter how factual it was, and instead bowed her head respectfully, acknowledging she was sorry, and he was the one whom held dominion. When he invited her in out of the weather, she couldn't help perking a bit, head raising as she smiled at him somewhat.

"Much obliged, thasnk you." She responded, and for all her gratitude, she managed to not fall into her enthusiastic traits. The snow was too thick and she knew she might trip, but she was careful, minding not to fall behind, nor find distraction. Her hoast was kind enough to take her in out of the cold and Kes was going to do her best to not make him regret it... Or at the very least make herself useful.

She was curious entering his den. The entire area was simple, but in a way that pleased her mentally -- the mare was careful entering to not disturb anything, or make matters worse. But she did watch, curiousity obvious on her face as she studied him, how he worked with his fire, his efforts to keep it burning before slowly tilting her head. Well that was a useful skill. She didn't know how to start a fire, but keeping it up didn't seem impossible.

Fascinating! Kes' ears flicked in all directions, listening before she considered, then spoke.

"Anything I can do to help? Might as well make myself useful until this bloody storm passes." Then she paused. "Kestreel, by the way. Kestrel DeLacey. Go by Kes, if you prefer." Nicknames didn't bother her though.

Inferno glanced at the mare as he placed one of the last branches to the standing pile he had been constructing. She had mentioned something of being useful? There were many things she could be useful, well he wasn't too sure how she could be. It wasn't like she could be a meal to him or anything. He had plenty of that stored away in the back of his 'den' of sorts. Some wrapped in other pelts and kept where it was coldest. Stepping back a moment, glancing down again and frowned. Seems that the fire he was trying to keep going had fizzled out.

"Well you can get cozy, doesn't seem like this storm will end until next sunrise at the very least." Inferno gestured to one of the pelts on the floor, knowing that it would at least ward off what cold was collecting along the floor itself. "There's not much else to do, I think I have the wood to keep this place warm enough for you." glancing at the small, growing smaller, pile of wood. It would suffice until the morning and hopeful ending of the storm.

"Inferno" He puts simply in reply to her mentioning her own name.

He wasn't much for chatter, really he wasn't much of a talker. Being always alone and hunting for something to eat like the most of his kind. It left little else to fill the other minutes. Inferno closed his eyes and inhaled deeply, perhaps a little too much. As he breathed out his nostrils lit before he opened his mouth to spout flames on the branches. The dry nettles on the branches catching lite first before flames crackled to life to the rest of the wood.

"There we are, should be toasty in here in no time again." Inferno said glancing at Kes before glancing back outside at the blowing wind and driving snow. Some smoke still curling out his nostrils as he calmed his inner fire back to a small controlled ball.

"Fair enough." Kes admitted. The mare moved as directed, settling patiently as her eyes resumed watching the male work with the fire. Her ears flicked as she watched him move, not entirely sold on what to do or say. Should she do or say something?

Kes glanced outside, and frowned at the bluster and snow in silence several minutes before a plume of flame drew her attention, looking back to Inferno with interest, raising her head in curiousity. Did he breathe fire? That was amazing! For a moment, she glanced outside again, and sighed.

"You're probably right. It's just awful out." Hopefully it passed, but she wasn't sure. Hope? Yes. Confident? No.

Silences were always said to be deafening and at this moment with only the crackling of the fire, Inferno stood staring at nothing. He heard the mare, Kes, he had heard Kes as she spoke of things being just awful outside. He couldn't really complain, he wasn't too fond of the warmer climates, but survived. Shaking his head to clear the space between his ears, he glanced back at Kes as she seemed cozy. Those bright blue markings that matched her hair and eyes were a contrast off her darker colored coat.

"Weather is what it is. Comes and goes like the sun and ever changing like the seasons." Inferno said as he reached over to pick up a long branch and poked at the fire a bit, the branches within settling a bit before putting it aside. "So, to what reason did you remain out in such weather this long? Surely you had a place to head before all this happened."

An inquiry he surely didn't need, but he was curious. He was sure that others were lost in this weather, the snow blowing this way and that. It was only a matter of time before the wind turned again and blew into the cave. He would have to see about doing something to block most this in the future. Just wood was very flammable and caused many other problems. Perhaps someone he knew who was of the earth element could help him. Frowning to himself, his thought carried away as sure enough the wind did turn and blew into the hole.

It was quieter. Not the kind as when she was on the move, humming and bouncing or flying along, the biggest difference was someone else was present, and there was fire. Kes wasn't bothered by fire. Instead, she watched the weather, and other times, Inferno. The blustery weather earned an ear p***k, before she looked back to Inferno again.

"Weather can be unpleasant though." She admitted. Her eyes fell back on the outside, flicking between quietly when Inferno asked...

Well, it was a fair question, if one Kes was never sure how to answer properly. Others expected a simple reason to be out and about, ears flicking. Well, regardless of her feelings, it was a fair question.

"No home, really." Kes admitted slowly. "I wander around looking for my sibling. Might need to rethink it now, but... I don't actually have a home. Or herd, ere you wonder." She was alone. Not by choice and not entirely willingly, but she was what she was. Even if the weather created cause to rethink thingsd. What if her family was freezing out there? What if her parents and sibling were killed by Walkers, or other predators? Was it wise to keep roaming when things like this happened and whayever kind of herd or Soquili would welcome her, someone who swam and soared as readily as she pleased? Ugh! It was all a mess! A complicated, stressful mess!

The wind blew through the opening to the shelter, the fire flickered and threatened to go out. Inferno moved and placed himself in the majority of the space. One wing stretching to the ground to block the most the wind and snow from the fire. The other wing moving forward to become a shield against the cold aimed towards Kes.

Lonely life, I fortunately have family nearby. This land is mostly run by dragons, though my parents are the worst of them. Siblings, those that I know of are almost as bad. Others I have never met or even seen." He glances back, turning his face away from the wind that still blow like a beast. "I am sure you'll find yourself a place to fit in. A family of your own making and perhaps even find this sibling of yours along the way."

As the winds started to shift again, a thick drift of snow had built up against Inferno's wings and side. Shaking slightly, the cold ebbing through his own scale coated hide. His inner fire had died back some to let the cold eat its way past, with a huff or two it was bright again within his core. flicking his wings outwards, he tried to drive the snow back while using his bladed tail to move more pieces of wood to the fire. This storm was bound to stretch on and there was little more to do at this rate.

"Here is hoping that this storm blows over soon." Inferno muttered more to himself then anyone else within the shelter. While he was a meat eater and he had a large meal laying just hoof steps away. He wanted to get this weather to go away so that she could leave without further problems...

Kes' ears flicked towards the wind blowing in. She was cautious of it, shifting to let long locks shield her face from it just in case, frowning a bit at it as she took in and considered Inferno's words.

"Bad" wasn't a term she'd really apply to dragons; similarly particularly vicious unprovoked. Although she didn't know much of them, or remember much of her parents, she remembered someone once telling her dragons were in face very lucky in the basket... Though, admittedly, the mare also recalled something about four toes or three toes, a mane down the back and tail, and something about whiskers, something Inferno largely lacked.

Perhaps there were different kinds though; much like Kelp or Wind. She was decidedly different to many pure kelpi, if one removed her wings, but she could still swim; and she was different from many wind, if she had shed the kelpi parts and went on that. But of course her parents had been a wind and a Kelpi, and she was what she was -- something most started at and went 'why', which, really, bemused her.

"Maybe. If they're out there I should help they're warm -- though this whole storm makes just finding someplace to settle seem like a really good idea." Especially with the weather. Was her sibling okay or as cold as she was? Worse? With a family?... The last thought was rather disheartening. Maybe her sibling had family, moved on, and forgot all about them all and she was chasing shadows. Maybe she was being an idiot, maybe -- nope! Nope not going fgurther down THAT nasty little rabbit hole! It wouldn't do her any good in the least, and the mere decided to mentally stomp her worry into a little pile of broken. She wasn't stupid she needed to change priorities. Much more sensible a thought, yes. And her priorities after this storm were 'find people whom could stand her more than five minutes'. Other Soq could stand her, right? Yes. Yes they bloody well could, and the mare hummed a bit.

"That's the nice thing about bad weather. It passes." Timingwise though... "Not always as fast as we'd like though. Thunderstorms are pretty bad about lingering."

Giving his wings a shake to release whatever snow still clung to them, he turned and placed his back to the still burning fire, his tail having knocked enough wood onto it to last a while longer. Laying himself on the dirt floor, ignoring the fact that there was still a pelt he could have curled up upon. He kept his gaze towards the outside, though his ears twitched back to listen when Kes spoke.

"Lets hope that this one passes quickly, for your sake." Inferno said half looking back towards the black and neon colored mare. Also I would rather have a thunderstorm then one of snow and ice."

Keeping his bright green eyes on the outside, not minding the once and a while gust of air that came in. It was a blessing in those moments. Breathing in light puffs, smoke still escaped his nostrils accompanied by a few sparks. Soon enough he was lowering his head to the ground and tucking his face beneath the shelter of a wing, his long horns poking out.

"Best get some rest. Need all the strength and stamina you can get in this place." he suggested from under his wing, tail curling atop said wing as he appeared to drop into slumber. His own bulk acting like a wind breaker to the rest of the shelter.

"Thunderstorms are much better." Kes agreed. Her ears flicked per usual, always listening, but she mostly watched, When he spoke again, she nodded.

"You're right." She agreed again, but didn't say more. She just hoped the wind died down soon as she lowered her head onto her forelegs, closing her eyes to sleep.

Hopefully, she could travel come morning -- if the storm let up. She didn't want to be a burden, but for now? Sleep.

An ear twitched as silence fell throughout the shelter, only the soft crackle of the burning wood broke that silence. After a few moments, Inferno removed his head from beneath his wing and glanced over his shoulder towards Kes. The mare seemed to sleep so soundly, something he wished that he could do. Shaking his head, the frill on his head flicked from side to side a bit before he stretched and pulled himself back to his hooves. Shaking the minimal dust from his coat and stretch of his wings. He folded them back to his sides and stepped carefully around the far side of the fire. His bright green eyes always on the mare. There was a bit of a predatory look to them as he stepped closer, head lowering slightly.

Inferno stood there over Kes for a few long moments before dragging himself away. In those moments he had reached out, muzzle parting and sharp teeth showing before he moved. Shaking the feelings from his head and headed towards the back of the shelter. There he riffled through a few baskets before piling one near full of things that grass eaters would like. Dried apples and other fruits he had laying about. Nothing he had any sense to consume at this moment. Taking the basket back over to the fire he placed it on the other side of Kes. After this he laid himself back to the ground as another strong wind started to find its way into the shelter.

"Blow your heart out." Inferno muttered as he faced the wind like an old foe. It would be a new day soon and with the changing of the winds, it seemed that the worse was soon to pass. Shaking the snow from his face, he settled back into the position he had once been in and merely listened to the howl if the winds as they started to lessen...

No problem!

Kes was quiet in sleep, but accustomed to low-end awareness. Still, she only seemed to react unconciously,, ear flicking this way and that as if a fly landed on her ear. Although comfortable enough, she lay positioned in case she need run -- the mare wasn't accustomed to others. She was accuswtomed to survival and to fighting to live.

But, she was still, somehow, sleeping soundly enough it was possible if safe and warm she might in fact do well among others; relaxed and happy and friendly, prefared to befriend any, if she didn't live alone, normally.

The winds earned ear flicks and shifting, one wing moving to cover her face as if she were affected more than she was, and her body relaxed, sighing in her sleep deeply. For now, she was sleeping, unaware of goingons around her bar unconcious response. Still, she was not trouble sleeping... Simply quiet.
