Ash walked steadily behind the smaller walker, his steps measured and calculated so he didn't overtake her and trigger any panic attacks. He was of the giant furstock of his race so could easily travel far distances with his bigger strides than he often realized. He studied his surroundings, taking in everything and anything he saw committing it to memory so he could map it later. Right now Moon Whisper was taking him to a nearby river that he could put on his maps as a centralized landmark. He was ever so grateful for her assistance, hers and Wisps. The strange little wolf that trotted along at her side and often interpreted her unique form of sign language. They were close enough to the river that his keen ears were starting to pick up on the babbling water noises. Happily he started forward when the wind shifted and Moon Whisper stopped dead in her tracks. He did the same wondering exactly what it was she sensed out there. He was not from these lands so often found himself at a loss for possible dangers that came with a scent. He watched and waited, ears on the swivel, trying in vain to pick up on whatever was out there. He felt his tail curl nervously around his back leg and his words were barely a whisper, "Does that one sense something amiss? This one admits he is still very much a kitten brain to the threats this land holds. Tell this one what is out there strider?"

Moon Whisper had been going along at a steady pace, trying to ignore the fact that there was a big male Purewalker walking behind her. So far he'd been very relaxed and she hadn't picked up any "warning" markers that would indicate he was a threat to her... Didn't stop her body from twitching involuntarily on occasion. Her ears perked forward at the sound of the river drawing closer when suddenly the wind shifted, stopping her dead in her tracks. Signaling to Wisp to explain, because she knew her faithful companion would know what was going on, she closed her eyes to focus on scenting the air to confirm her gut feeling. "Boss is picking up on a bad snowstorm. She's trying to taste the air to tell how soon it'll hit us." Wisp said, keeping one eye on Moon and the other on Ash. Snapping her eyes open, Moon looked behind her and made a whuffing sound before pawing at the ground a bit and starting forward once more, slightly changing the course they were on while flicking her ears a few times. "We gotta move it; seems like it'll be here VERY soon. Moon knows of a place to hole up for a bit nearby." Translating the pawing and ear twitches, Wisp trotted after her. Word count: 217

Ash's ears dropped down and flat against his skull as he watched and waited for the answer, and when it finally came from Wisp he was utterly surprised. Snow? What exactly was snow? He'd not been in this land long of course so he wasn't sure about it at all but it seemed this snow was a bad thing. "This one senses fear from you land striders. This one knows bad weather is never a good sign but that one seems to genuinely fear the snow. Is there reason?" He asked softly as they turned to walk deeper into the forest to wherever Moon Whisper knew was a shelter from this snowstorm. Ash found himself both concerned and ever so curious. Ever seeking new knowledge he became easily enthralled by the idea of any new experience. "Snow... Hmm what an odd word that is. What is snow like Wisp?" He directed the question to the tiny wolf instead of Moon Whisper as she seemed concentrated on finding their shelter and he didn't want to disturb her.

"Normally it's harmless and fun to play in, even if very cold... A snowstorm, sometimes called a blizzard, however... Sometimes it can be so bad you can't see more than a foot in front of you and you can get lost and freeze to death, or fall down a ravine or cliff that was obscured by the snowfall." Wisp replied, not glancing back, confident that the feline would easily keep up with the strides of Moon Whisper. Pausing to check on her companions, Moon huffed and nodded at what Wisp said, then resumed guiding them to the den nearby. The prior occupant had long since vacated due to the increase in Walker activity nearby (the poor thing had no way of knowing Moon meant no harm). The wind began to pick up, sending stinging flakes into the exposed bits not protected by fur. Moon's old injuries started to ache, which made her pick up the pace with a faint whine. "Uh-oh... looks like it's one of those white-out blizzards. Those always make boss'-" Wisp almost spoke about the thing one does not speak about and stopped himself. If Moon wished to disclose that to an outsider, she'd signal Wisp to do so. Soon the duo arrived at the mouth of the den, which thankfully was spacious enough to house the three of them without things getting awkward. Moon had spent some time digging to expand its size; she liked roomy dens. Word Count: 241

"Fascinating..." He said softly, the words nearly covered by the gradually increasing winds. "If this one had to compare it to anything this one would suggest a sandstorm. They also cover the land and make it hard to see and move about..." He stopped for a second with a hiss as a grouping of the flakes hit his flank aided by the wind and caused a slight stinging pain there, "However the sandstorms don't sting like a bee when they hit you in the flank..." He knew he was grumbling but he couldn't help it. A brand new experience was being ruined for him by the stinging pain of the snow. When finally the trio came to the dug out den, he had to duck a bit being as tall as he was, to get inside but it wasn't a huge issue. He'd caught Wisp's near flub up in telling a secret but chose to ignore it as she'd either tell him or wouldn't as per her own prerogative. As the other two made themselves comfortable he felt himself drawn to the entrance of the den, watching with wonder as the snow fell outside. The fat white flakes whipping by at impressive speeds, carried by a strong wind. He was absolutely entranced. The big cat felt his paws twitch with an ache to step out into the snow, his lips quivering to open his mouth and catch the flakes on his tongue. Experience was calling and he was nearly on the verge of rushing out to meet it.

The combination of cold and her old injuries aching because of the cold made Moon uncharacteristically grumpy. She wanted to rest somewhere warm and wait out the blizzard, but had to keep an eye out for the newcomer. She didn't dare let down her guard and sure enough, when she glanced over at him after trying to paw at the dirt in the back of the den to make it even bigger... She sneezed. Wisp, upon hearing the sneeze, turned his attention back to her and after a few silent words between them, he placed himself between Moon and Ash. "Haven't been in one of those, but we've heard stories. Sometimes those too do sting, depending on the type of dirt caught up in it. Moon says if you must play in that, by the way, you'd best wait until after it's done falling. Just watch your step when you do." Wisp's eyes glinted impishly at the last bit. Watching someone fall up to their necks in a snowdrift was amusing... provided they weren't alone and could get back out (with some help). Word Count: 183

The combination of the sneeze and the cautionary words from the two had Ash turning around with a look upon his face that one might find on a kitten caught with his paw in the cream. "This one has been caught it seems..." He had the grace to look ashamed of himself. "Ah to be a kitten again, playing in a new land with new weather... This one is too old for such foolish thoughts, especially when this ones life is on the line." He nodded his head to Moon Whisper and then again to Wisp, "You've saved my tail this day landstriders. This one will not soon forget it." He almost wondered what it would be like to step out into the snow when it was done falling. "Should we attempt sleep then while the snow is falling outside and see what comes in the morn?" He waited curiously to see what Moon wanted to do.

Sleep..? With an unknown male in the same den as her? Moon's mind and emotions were a hot mess for a moment, processing this. Wisp waited patiently while she pondered a reply after sorting things through. She was cold, she ached, and she was not going to let down her guard around this stranger, even if it meant no sleep. After signaling to Wisp, Moon repositioned herself so she could stand near the entrance and dipped her head to the back of the den. "Boss says to nap out back, she'll keep first watch. She doesn't know how long we might be stuck in here while that blizzard rages outside." Wisp translated, keeping the more subtle signals a secret. Moon had told Wisp she wouldn't be able to sleep with an unknown male nearby and he understood. Meanwhile, Moon kept her gaze on the baleful storm outside, watching the flakes spin about in a frenzy before they hit the ground. Fat fluffy flakes soon joined the smaller stinging ones to create a wall of white. Already, the snow was deep enough to cover her paws. The wind rasped through the trees with a breathy roar and she knew it'd be a doozy of a storm. Word Count: 205

Ash could smell it, despite what Wisp was telling him Moon was saying. She was afraid again and he felt his ears pin back against his head worried that he was what was causing it somehow. He had no proof of this but something told him that he was at fault. He sighed a bit and said, "Alright then..." Feeling his smaller form come across his body so he could lay down easier. He curled in on himself making himself appear as small as possible, tucking his nose under his tail and nodded off almost instantly. He was always quick to fall asleep but he was a lighter sleeper so if anything happened he'd know. The last sound he heard before he dropped into a deep dreamless sleep was the wind howling in the background.

Taking her eyes away from the wintery ballet before her, Moon turned to see Ash in feral form, curled up into a warm ball and sound asleep. The tension in her body eased up with a faint sigh. He's kinda cute when he sleeps like that... Moon thought. Getting up and stretching herself out so she wouldn't get stiff from sitting in the cold for so long, she lay down again a few feet further inside the den. One eye on the entrance, which already had some snow drifting in, and another eye on the prone form of the slumbering feline, Moon soon found herself fighting sleep. Before she knew it was out for the count, lulled to sleep by the gentle roaring of the wind. Wisp placed himself next to her and was about to join in the slumber when Moon's body and paws started to twitch. Suddenly on the alert, he focused on her and ignored everything else. Soon soft whimpers and whines confirmed his fears; she was caught up in a nightmarish memory and he could do nothing for her. With a faint whine of his own, he used his own body against her to provide what little warmth and reassuring pressure he could. Word Count: 207

Dreamless was the best way to describe how Ash slept that day. The sound of the storm in his ears, the soft whooshing both relaxing and semi-terrifying. So lightly he slept that every single sound made his ears itch to perk up and listen. He was warm enough, his fur insulating him to the best extent it could but cold fear slipped through his blood as his dream self floating in the void of his mind. Nothingness was often more terrifying than a sweet dream. He would have stayed like this for quite awhile if he hadn't heard the sounds of distress, the scrabbling of paws against the dirt floor. Ears up, his head rose, eyes slightly bleary from sleep. "Wisp? Moon? What's going on?" He asked before he saw her in the throes of her nightmare. Then his ears flattened back to his skull and he frowned deeply. He knew those kinds of "dreams". Suffered similar ones and he knew how helpless Wisp must feel having to ride it out and being unable to help...

Wisp's ears flicked back at Ash's voice, but his eyes remained upon Moon's slumbering form. "Normally her cloak helps with this..." he said softly. "She's just... caught up in the past..." Briefly glancing at the feline, his ears went flat. "Please don't tell her I told you. But I'm at wit's end when she's like this. And trying to wake her is not a good idea. I've tried." Tugging at her cloak in an effort to get it to cover more of her, he cast his eyes outside to see how bad the storm was and saw that, while they'd slept, it had covered the land in a thick blanket of snow. While the snow was still falling, it had slowed down to a graceful dance to gently kiss the ground below. The wind was barely a whisper as it slipped through the trees. "At least the worst of it is over outside now."Word Count: 154

Ashed hummed sympathetically at Wisp as he tried his hardest to help his bonded. "Don't worry Wisp, the secret is safe with this one..." He wished he could do something to help in turn but there was truly nothing he could do. He was absolutely helpless. He stopped and looked outside at Wisp's words and indeed the snow had slowed, the world blanketed in a soft sparkling white. He felt a pleased purr rise up in his throat at the sight. Snow was something completely new to the Khajiit but he had a feeling he would like it quite a bit. His mind turned back to Moon Whisper and wondered if there was any way he could help her. He was a overly talkative giant cat sure but that didn't mean he didn't have resources. Perhaps he could find something, or his family could, that would help her heal. "This one will stand watch Wisp. You need to get some sleep if you can. This one will make sure she doesn't hurt herself or nothing else harms her while she sleeps." He could do that at least...
