"I bet you won't." A flash of white, black and gold jetted through the thick weeds.
Bright blue eyes and pale hair furled her brow slightly and looked around. "And what if I don't?" The tone of her voice was strained, you could tell she was upset and trying not to show it. Galatea was such a bully, but in such a way that you wouldn't necessarily think she was leading you wrong, but Idyia knew and she didn't want her to know because Gala could be vicious.
"I could say you did it anyway and who would believe who?" Her voice wasn't malicious, but it was cool and light, making her sound even more terrible than what she was. "Besides," Pale eyes flashed devilishly as she paused before the youngest of the choir, "It'll be fun. You can't say it wouldn't be."
Idyia loved to sing, it was the one thing she was probably the best at. All of her sisters could sing, but there was just something about Idyia's voice that was so haunting, and so entrancing that even Gala was a little jealous, though she'd never tell anyone else that. Perhaps that was why Gala was so hard pressed to get her to lure someone into their midst. Amphitrite, being the eldest tried to govern the choir as best she could to keep the girls safe from harm. She knew that if she caught wind of what she was trying to do to Idyia that Gala would suffer for it. Nothing cruel, but she would get some backlash as Amphitrite was protective of Idyia. Mostly because she was so pure and gentle. But if Gala could have anything to do about it, she'd scar that perfect record the pale filly had.
Idyia was frustrated, to say the least. Gala was so high strung and so stubborn that it was hard to get away from her once she set her mind on you. Where was Amphitrite? She knew if her twin showed up she'd be spared from having to suffer under Gala's command. She was glad that Amphitrite was the eldest and in charge and not Gala. Shuddering she wondered what the choir would have been like if things had been different.
"Amphitrite would believe me." She countered with an inner shout of triumph. She knew she had her there and she could see Gala's brow furl slightly in annoyance. Moving from the shelter of the growth she swam towards some coral and looked over towards Gala, who was eyeing her rather harshly.
Gala gave a small shrug and rolled her eyes. "I'm not afraid of Amphitrite." She lied. Truly though, the other filly scared her because she knew that if it came down to it, she would kill her if she ever harmed Idyia. Gala never had the intentions of harming any of her choirmates though. While they might not all see eye to eye, she liked to bend the rules or do her own thing and try to persuade her sisters into joining her. "What would you rather do then? I still think singing and seeing if anyone is actually around to listen wouldn't be the worst thing in the world." Besides, she wanted to peek at some of the land dwellers. They looked so weird and she didn't want to do it alone. Gala may be mean, but she wasn't a fool, there was safety in numbers. Even if it was just one other.
"Fine." Idyia caved, peeking out from a vibrant patch of coral she had nestled into. "There is a spot I have swam by a few times we could look at?" She offered and was relieved when Gala smiled. At least she wasn't being menacing anymore. Idyia could never outswim Gala so she always just suffered through whatever mood the older filly was in.
Amphitrite was doing her typical rounds, scouting the areas for potential dangers, checking in on the other members of the choir to make sure they were safe, and anything else she could think of to keep her sisters protected. As the eldest, it was her duty to ensure that no harm came to those in the choir. Outside sources were probably the biggest worry to her, while she knew some of her sisters were volatile in nature, they all looked out for one another. Outside creatures were unknown and unpredictable. She always worried that some sky or land dweller, or even a larger water dweller would snatch one of them from their watery home, never to be seen or heard from again. She recounted tails of skin changers that could take the shape of an animal one moment and that of a horse the next. While she had never run into one, she believed those tales to be true and would hate to see one of her choir snatched up like a tasty snack. Giving a small shake of her head she banished those kinds of thoughts from her mind. Nothing like that was going to befall her sisters and she wasn't going to think of "what if's" and get herself all worked up. So lost in her thoughts she missed the movement ahead at first and finally spotted it once she cleared her mind and realized, after a double take, what, or rather who, she was looking at. Galatea and Idyia weren't too far ahead and they were swimming together. She gave a sigh, she knew that it was likely Gala calling the shots and Idyia just going along with her, but as long as there was no harm then there wasn't much to be angry about.
They were all young still, and the best way to learn is through doing. Life lessons are best learned by living. Right? Still, she was curious as to what they were up to and decided following them wouldn't hurt anything. The temperature rose as they grew closer to the surface of the water, where the suns rays were able to penetrate the murky depths.
Breaking the surface Idyia gave a quick look around and then took in a deep breath of the air. The warm sun felt strange and relaxing upon her slick skin. Laughing a little at the way the wind felt as it blew through her mane she looked over at Galatea for a brief moment to see that the filly actually had a smile on her face. "I think we so rarely come up here that it's often we forget how unique this world is." Idyia said softly.
Gala remained quiet because she didn't want to admit that this felt quite enjoyable. She had a reputation to uphold after all.
Amphitrite watched from a distance, she spent enough time on the surface scouting that the novelty of it was lost on her now. She was immune to the wonders of the world it would seem. She spent all her time planning and researching so not much surprised her, but to see that much surprised her sisters still made her heart happy. She didn't want them all to be numb to the joys of this world. Not that Amphitrite would say she was numb to everything, she just had a very realist approach to things. Idyia was a dreamer and she hoped that she remained that way, no matter what happened. While she had hopes and dreams for all her sisters she knew that life would do what it would do in the end and they'd either be better or worse for it.
Deciding there wasn't much to make of her two sisters at the surface she gave a last look towards them and smiled. No harm would come to them right now, at least that's what she believed and felt so she would go about the rest of her route. Vanishing into the depths she hummed a little tune that echoed into the distance.
"This is kind of boring now." Gala said rather reluctantly after a few short moments of looking around. The shoreline was too far away still and she honestly was feeling rather lazy and didn't want to commit to going that far right now. "Let's go back, I'm starting to get hungry anyway." Some oysters were calling her name and she might even get a few pearls for her troubles! If there was one thing Galatea enjoyed it was pearls, and other such trinkets that could be found in their deep sea home.
Idyia nodded her head. The sun was starting to feel uncomfortable to her and she dipped her head back below the surface and was pleased that Gala was ready to go back. "Food sounds quite nice right now." Adding that in, the duo made their way back to the safety of their home. Idyia was hoping to catch a fat eel to eat, but honestly whatever she was able to get would be fine with her. With their mind on food and no idea of what future may lay ahead for them.
