Not believing she was stupid enough to stumble upon this trap, Elysia felt like such a fool because now she was stuck in who knows what with what appeared to be only one way out. Maybe the voice was right in calling her a fool. She tried asking it questions to try and figure out exactly what she had to do. The voice told her nothing and eventually she was met with silence. What the hell was she supposed to do? It was dark and for some bright reason she decided to go out to see if she could pick Alice some more berries. That was the last thing she remembered before waking up here. What a dumb idea that was. Walking around the forest late at night already was a gamble, but now with this new added threat it meant a bad time all around. The area was unfamiliar to her, and she didn’t know exactly where she was, but it definitely was not the area she resided in.
She took a quick look around noticing that things were a little off. She was in a slightly open area with trees beside her and behind her. She couldn’t really make out what was in front of her other then it being an open area. Was this the forest? It had to be. She knew there can be a small grove like area in a forest, she had seen it many times. What wasn’t normal was that the entire ground was covered in leaves except where she was. This was not good. Something felt off and this type of thing would be normal if the area was completely covered in trees. She sighed and took a slow step forward feeling the hard ground below her hoof. Maybe she was wrong about this. Maybe it was just leaves on the ground. She continued forward, keeping a slow and calculated pace before stepping on something that was more wobbly. She could hear a crack and moments later she fell forward into what appeared to be a pit. She leaned back as much as she could so that she didn’t go falling in as the leaves disappeared into the darkness of the hole and the small sticks broke under her weight. She was lucky she didn’t walk completely on it because she would have fallen in. She didn’t know how deep it was or what was at the bottom, but she knew she definitely wouldn’t have been able to get out of it. She would have rotted away down there.
She composed herself and slowly made her ways across the leave covered ground making sure she avoided any of the pits. She listened to any signs of cracking or ground that didn’t feel right. When she made it across to a tree line, she let out a soft sigh.
“Fool huh..” She muttered under her breath as she took a moment to look around. It looked like she was in a heavily dense part of the forest. She walked slowly forward keeping an eye out for anything suspicious before stopping in her tracks. There were tree’s all around her at this point, but she could still feel something eerie about this place. She took another step not realizing she broke a string that was in front of her until she heard the sound of something coming her way. She quickly ducked causing whatever it was to collide with one of the other trees. It was a good thing she didn’t crack under this kind of circumstance, or she would have problems. She noticed the broken twine by her feet before rising back up to see what it was that collided with he tree. It was a sharp log that could have easily ended her life if she wasn’t quick enough. It was yet another trap much like the pit one, but this time it was blatantly obvious whoever the voice was they wanted her to not make it out of here.
The only issue was, she could barely see the twine at her feet with how dark it was so she had to go on sound to get through this one. Whenever she heard something coming her way, she either ducked or dodged in the opposite direction. She knew she tripped a lot more of the traps as she made her way through the dense forest, and she didn’t stop to check. By the time she got to the tree line she was exhausted and had endured some cuts as well as scraps from all the maneuvering. She eyed the open plain ahead of her and felt a little more at ease then when she was stuck in the forest. The moonlight helped illuminate the area so that she could at least see what was going on. It was better than nothing like what she went through in the forest.
She took a few more steps out of the tree line feeling like that was the end of it. That uneasiness left her and she could finally get back home. She would be empty handed, but at least she left with her life. Alice would be thankful for that at least. She could always go picking berries another day.
